I say "charver", even though I'm from the US. I haven't yet met another person who knew what I was talking about when I mutter "Gah, bloody charvers..."

And I'm not even trying to be faux-British or anything...

Sorry, but i can't help pointing out the Englishism is 'chav' not 'charver' :p
Or pikey, or townie, depending where you're from. 'Ned' if you're scottish.

Persoanlly i'm slightly wary of such social stereotyping.

Hrm, "charver" was more common than "chav" when I was in the north-east, but I was only there for about a month, so it might have been a biased sample.

EDIT:
Oh, an' you forgot about "scally"!

If you says so, never heard charver myself so i assumed it was just a mis-hearing of chav. And yes i missed scally, it's not my specialist subject, sorry :P

Well since you are the first American I know who seems to already know what a scally is (my personal favorite). Does America have an equivelent?

I dunno. Mostly here we just try to step over and around them and pretend they're not there. Infestation that they are and all.
;)

Really, the only thing I've heard them called is "gangsta", which is the name they decided to call themselves, and I can't see why everyone else complies.

We USAliens need to come up with a suitable term for them to call our own.
