Yes, I'm leaving.

And, not uncommonly, it is the result of a disagreement with a Mod.

I reported what I considered to be obscenity, the Mod interpreted the same thing as "swearing". Obviously, this type of judgement call is highly subjective. However, a sole Moderator, apparently without consultation, or, in my opinion, due consideration, or any right of reply or source of appeal, can make and enforce such a judgement.

I was given no opportunity to question that ruling, as on two separate occasions the threads that I started were locked by the same Mod. Seemingly, a form of censorship is available to some.

I cannot, in conscience, continue to post to a forum which will seemingly freely permit the posting of material which I would not wish my children to encounter.

Those who have read any of my posts in this forum would, I am sure, regard me as a "liberal", and I would not disagree.

The irony of my position in this instance, therefore, is not lost on me.

Nor am I under any illusion on the effect of my leaving in this manner - absolutely none.

However, I consider that no other honourable course of action is available to me.

No I checked it was GMC Military Arms.

Never had any problems with him.

But he did seem to be acting like an asshole.

But I still think its too little to leave for.

Look at me - I was around for ages and the mod "Cogitation" (who I've probably been here longer than) made a mistake and deleted me after giving a warning which I accepted. He didn't want to lose face, so he gave me rude smart*** replies and locked my threads before I could respond.

But I'm still here. :P

Seriously - mods are human. When they get embarrassed by mistakes like this they tend to act this way as most people would. Don't let it get to you anymore than you would another player. He's no more important than you.

GMC has been around for a decently long time. Long before the move, and long before II even existed. Frankly folks, he's fair and to the point. Smeagol was trying to press an issue when it was case closed from the getgo. He tried to report Johnny and yet blatantly ignored the post before it. Now if any of you were RPers, then frankly you could go hunting in II or NS and find stuff that makes what Johnny said looked tame.

I shed no tears for Smeagol leaving, good riddence, if you didnt want your children to be exposed to harsh posts why then be on NS? Surely you arent trying to tell me that worse posts havent been made in general before. :-T

Why leave? I've had loads of brushes with the mods, But I've never given up. I never give up on anything anymore. Saying somthings impossible is just to make them feel better when they quit.

yeah, i'm honestly a bit confused at what the big deal is. according to the forum rules, aparently, swearing is not necessarily a problem. i would tend to agree with that, but at any rate i don't see why a player would quit NS because they don't want their KIDS to see the material around here...i mean, if your kids are old enough to be interested in reading these debates then i think they are probably old enough to handle seeing a few swear words. unless you have really really really brilliant 4 year olds.

yeah, my kid brother has HEARD swear words all his life...my parents have lived in the city his whole life, and you can't really keep your kid from hearing what people scream out their windows during a traffic jam. knowing that nasty words exist doesn't warp a kid, and trying to keep kids from ever hearing or seeing those words is not only futile but will also probably increase the likelihood they will use those words once they encounter them.

As for concern of children? What children? Don't know of too many who wouldn't get bored playing this game.

Maturity levels are always an issue, especially with free gaming boards.

It's was a mods call and you have to respect that. Sometimes they may questionable calls but I for one am glade they aren't PC nazis.
