I rented Platoon after I had found it randomly at Giant Eagle today, and it looked good. Add Willem Dafoe to the mix, an amazing actor, and I simply had to see it.

So, before I watch it later tonight...I want some opinions. What do you guys/gals think?

Yeah, I've seen it and it was pretty good.

Good movie. Story and characters were interesting. I wasn't in Vietnam so I can't comment on it's accuracy.

I've never actually suffered through it (not a big war movie fan), but my dad and my brother love it.

Good story telling and use of archetypes - it stays in the mind.

It may strike you as rather tame, but it was groundbreaking (for mainstream cinema) in its day.

I rented it from the library a while ago. It was okay, I guess. it had just the right amount of action, and the movie was pretty well-paced, but it isn't as gory and realistic as it should be. Still, it beats all the other Vietnam war movies I've seen, besides Full Metal Jacket.

Elias's death was pretty moving...and Charlie Sheen doing a serious role was good as well. I did hate that bastard Barnes as well.

So I guess it was good by the fact that the characters stick with me.

As war movies go it is in my opinion one of the better movies around. I am not a vet, but I am quite sure that it did a good job of showing a small part of the war in a very realistic way. Another top-notch vietnam movie is Bat-21; another one that is really good too is, (I cant think of the name.) about a news crew that goes into the bush with a small group of special ops GI's. It is very good.
