yeah, youre right oxford was the central home of royalists and was where the king fled to. The kings support was mainly in the north (far away from london where decisions were made), whilst parliaments support lay mainly in the south, near london where people could see how sucky the king was. because of poor communication, those in the north didnt hear about this, and so still believed in divine rule and so supported the king.

hope this helps. i cant be bothered to actually think about it.

Camberwick Green had definite pro-Cromwell leanings though.

Yes, until the massacre in any case......

true but cromwell never had the full support of parliament so you cant use him as another word for parliament i guess. he only had support by the "war party", not the peace side who wanted to negotiate with the king.

So would you classify Camberwick Green as pro-Royalist, or pro-Parliament then?

was camberwick green the place where 24000 (ish:P) people came out and stopped the kings army getting to london?

if it is, then its very much pro parliament.

No, you're getting it confused with Ulverton.

??? I was hinting that, as far as I knew, there is no place called Sioux City in England.

The fact that the pair of them didn't come into being until some 200 years after the ECW suggests that they must have been, by default, neutral...

EDIT: if the status of Denver and Sioux City are the only things that stick in your craw with regard to this thread, then you haven't been paying sufficient attention.

Plymouth was Parlimentarian. I used to live there and my local park was named Freedom fields after a battle between the Royalist and Parlimentarians which the Parlimentarians won. To this day Plymouth votes for Labour and the surrounding area vote for the Tories (labour supposedly being left and advocates of change).

Don't push Plymouth away as an insignificant city (as it is now), back then it was a major port and very important.

Thats right.

Well, we can get to London in less than 3 hours...with a fair wind and good sails! (as long as you don't travel either in or behind a Virgin train, only beardie would buy trains from Spain that don't like sea water then run them down to the South-West...dumbarse!) :)

Only if it goes via Bristol, then it still takes 5+ hours!...or its late...or its behind a Virgin train...or theres been (another) crash somewhere in the Reading-London area...or Dawlish is blocked...or...actually, thinking about it it still does take 5+ hours!
