Tell me your worst nightmare

Mine is that of a white, waxy face, dead yet alive, looking in at me from a window, with empty eye sockets. And then I run away from it, and my room turns into a long corridor with windows, and every one has a horrible face looking at me, and there's a door at the end of the corridor, not ten feet away, and regardless of how fast I run, the door is still just ten feet away.

I actually have had that many times; I remane sane through watching Monty Python.

I'm writing a horror story, and I'd apreciate some imput. And not comedic things, please: while being chased by a huge pair of boots with teeth is horrible while you're dreaming it, it's monumentally stupid when you wake up.

I am in the forest, or mountians, or some other remote place (recurring dream, slight differences each time) and I am looking for something. I don't know exactly what, but I know I care about it, and it is in danger. There is also something looking for me, and the thing, that is out to cause harm. Great harm. Once again I don't know what it is, but it is evil, and powerful. That is the basics of my worst dream ever (more details, but I don't really like talking about this dream). I know it doesn't seem that scary, but it always comes with the most horrifying feeling, and just a sense of dread. I carry a knot in my stomach, of sheer terror, all day after I have this dream.

i have very frequent nightmares, i'll just post the latest.

i was just walking down the road, misty day. all the sudden i see a girl limping down the street, so i sorta sneak up to her and see if she is alright. shes covered in blood.. i kinda tap her shoulder and ask if shes ok, and she turns around to look at me, and she has a huge opening on her head, pouring blood, her face is beyond mangled, it was really freaky. for some reason, in my dream, i ask her what happened and she said her dad murdered her with a pick ax. she asks me to kill her father and then i usually wake up. the two times i didnt wake up at that point the dream goes on for a second, and i follow her as she takes me towards the house, i havent ever gotten all the way to the house.

i dont think its anything more then a dream, but creepy either way. if you want more just ask, i am full of nightmares. i guess i have a dark subconscious.

I accidentally tell Mike my feelings about him. He never wants to see or hear from me again.

Then Honored Matre hears about it, and I have to go back to living at home "just to make sure I'm alright," and she continues to "try and fix me" so that I'm her idea of a perfect son and make her many, many grandchildren. And she reminds me of something she told me once, back in HS- "Yes, I know you're miserable. I want you to be a sucess, you'll have to learn to like living a lie. These pills will help you cope." And, after beating the addiction to painkillers that I had for four years, I fall right back into life as it used to be.

I'm in my house, looking out a window during a storm when a monster made of mud presses its face against it, then starts to ooze under the sill into the house. I run through rooms and close doors to get away, but it comes under or around the doorway and keeps following me until it knocks me down and starts to ozze up my legs...then I wake up.

I don't know why it was made of mud, but for a horror story you might want to use something scarier for a liquid-solid monster, like blood or something.

I don't have anything that could be called a nightmare, but I do have some seriously fucked up dreams.

The closest thing to a nightmare I've had recently was, well, it's hard to explain. Ever seen Akira? If so, start from there, and add a lot more fatalities.

Another almost-nightmare I had ages ago involved baby-eating pet tigers. Don't ask.

And I had a dream with Nyarlathotep, the Crawling Chaos, in it, but I'm still trying to remember it.

And there was the dream with ground-up people stuffing into glass boxes full of dirt and put into windows, but only I could see them. And some other guy, come to think of it.

An odd one I had was one in which I was cryogenically frozen, and was revived in a future. Of course, it had to be a future where transsexuals were considered evil, a sin against nature or something like that. So I got tortured to death.

Dying is an odd sensation, or at least this dying was.

A funny aside was that during my sleep my breathing stopped. Of course, that's probably more due to the fact that I was in the hospital from a drug overdose and not stable yet, but it's fairly odd that it happened the same night of a death-dream.

My worst nightmare recently was just falling. I never got even close to the ground, and the ground was actually an ocean with an island in the middle. I had the ridiculous thought to angle for the island so when I die at least the sharks don't get me. Not sure where I was falling from, but the sheets were soaked with sweat. Bloody people I can handle. Axe wielding psychos coming after me? No problem. All of a sudden plunging to doom? Not too much you can do there.

I have lots of dreams about being chased by some dark amorphous authority figure. It's kind of scary, but exciting too.

The worst nightmare I ever had was when I was recovering from a broken jaw. I had my jaws wired shut for six weeks. When I first got home from the hospital I had this really freaky dream. (I always have really weird dreams when sick or injured)
I dreamed I was out riding motorcycles in the desert with a bunch of my friends. When we stopped for the day we set up camp in a ravine with a big bonfire. I was about to go to sleep, just drifting off, when this animal attacked me. It was a really deformed mutant rabbit like thing with giant fangs and slobber dripping from it's mouth. It jumped in my face and was trying to crawl in my mouth, clawing at my face, trying to pry my mouth open with it's claws.
I woke up about that time. There I was, with my hands at my mouth, trying to claw my mouth open. Really Freaky.
Though I did have one dream that scared me more. When I was fifteen I got raped while hitchhiking. The first time I slept after that, I relived it. The really scary part was when I woke up, I could still feel his hands on me for about twenty seconds.

Freaky.

I don't have a lot of nightmares, so I am unable to remember my worst one... :(

But I do have dreams where I fly :D

In one dream, I went to Pluto, and it was the shape of an egg. Interesting.

EDIT: Well, there WAS one dream. Something happened (don't remember what), and I woke up running to the top of the stairs of my basement, turning the light on. I kept panicking, standing next to the door and holding on for dear life, still in a dream-like state or something, for like 10 or 20 seconds.

I don't dream.

Illuminating, isn't it?

Well . . . I did have a lot of dreams as a young child, but that was really just the product of a turbulent household, I imagine - granted, my dreams were comparatively childish (a bloody ape-man running along the foot of my bed a few times and then jumping on me, just before I woke up, for example), but they scared the hell out of me nevertheless.

I can tell you a good one, though. . . . Walking through my aunt's house (a very quaint feeling, impossible for me to realistically describe in detail, since you very likely aren't familiar with my aunt's house), I seem to be aware of this fog that is present throughout the establishment - I can still make out the sofas, chairs, and tables that make the living room memorable, but everything seems to be recognizeably enveloped in a fog, if that makes any sense.

All of a sudden, I am made aware of slightly evil beings, along the line of elves running about the place, with me trying to get to electrical outlets - even though the little blackguards jump me when I get near the outlets I seem to have a feeling that if I expose myself to the pain of inserting my finger into one of them, I will be left entirely alone. My dream always ended there.

Another very interesting one (that I had about three months ago) took place in something that started out as a racing video game, but quickly the car that I seemed to be observing as a third person went into a crowded suburb and then into a very dark (yet not shabby) parking garage - evidently the stronghold of the video game's end-level "boss." At any rate, as soon as the person driving the car, vaguely identifiable as Donald Duck, steps out, he disposes of a few minions with one or two rounds of his Lewis gun.

I then get the sensation that I had stepped out of the car with him (the car having disappeared), and he grabs my arm and tells me to snap out of it and that it's time to go. It is here that I woke up.

See, you do have dreams.
For a long time I tended to think I didn't dream much, or didn't remember them much. Then I got put on anti-depressants. Since then I've had very vivid dreams. My roommates say I scream a lot when I'm sleeping. Apparently it disturbs them more than it does me.

But then I did have one or two pleasant dreams, now that I come to think of it . . . yes, very pleasant dreams!

A love-starved Angelina Jolie and an equally longing Nicole Kidman somehow find their way into my bed, entirely naked. Then they start to undress me and . . . ehehehe; I don't think more detail is required. ;)

I didn't know about the screaming until a few years ago. (I also kick and punch) My first couple of sleep over relationships were with people that slept like rocks. Then I had a boyfriend who was a light sleeper. I used to scare the crap out of him. When I screamed it didn't wake me up, but it scared him so much he'd scream, and that would wake me up.
I also broke my toe in my sleep. My dresser was too close to the bed and I kicked it.

I've read that one of the symptoms of depression is disturbed delta stage sleep. I wonder about the cause/effect connection with the weird dreams and acting out in your sleep.

You are clearly in a much worse state than I... A large number of traumatic events in your life is to blame... but mine is related to a childhood trauma. Talking about it is a fantastic start, as well as talking to people like me, who also suffers similarly. I don't know how to solve the night problems, those are just stuck in the uncontrolable part of the mind... But things can be done to help you while you are awake. This is not really a nightmare but an incredibly strange dream I had one night and decided to write it down as soon as I woke up so I wouldn't forget.

The dream starts out as me waking up and finding that mum and dad have got someone to tear down the front fence. They aren’t around anywhere. I go to the back yard and there are people from grade 12 who are arriving for a ‘end of year’ party. *Name delete* is there and after telling someone to enjoy the party as it is the last time some of us will see each other, she decides to ride me as her ‘bitch’. She is humping me from behind and we decide to move to the bottom left of the backyard in the right corner. She continues to ‘ride’ me even though she has no penetrating abilities. This goes on for a while and stops when someone opens the gate. It is Mrs *Name delete* and she collects my best friend *Name delete* and his sister *Name delete*. We stop only to say goodbye. Then after they are gone, *Name delete* continues to ‘ride’ me. I help by pushing upwards to keep the rhythm going. I am face down and only hear voices. *Name delete* is answering the people, still ‘riding’ me. It is people asking whether or not they can set up in the backyard. They ask questions making sure that it is ‘safe’. As I finally look up to see who it is, I realize that it is people from some sort of reality TV show called “The Shed”. They are going to build a wooden shed in the backyard and are showing various ways the windows can go. It is a fold out model of some kind. Then it becomes very dark and they act out something from Lord Of The Rings. Sauron or Saruman or whoever puts a spell on someone and Gandalf touches them with his staff to wake them up. This is not at all clear at first and then halfway through their performance I realize what they are doing. They ask if anyone knew what it was what they were doing and I answered with something similar to what I told you then. They answer and then everything is completely dark. I notice there is a spot light on *Name delete*. A voice is telling her she has to do what they say. They don’t threaten her but *Name delete* is still resistant. She gives up quickly though and she takes off her clothes. She is extremely attractive. I wake up in the family room. Two other guys who look familiar but don’t strike any immediate resemblance rush in and say they have been abducted. They go around the house and show me things that happened to them that they can remember. They show a dent where one of the aliens threw an apple at them. *Name delete* walks past as they are showing me something about the couch. She is in her underwear and she is quite hairy and unattractive. I tell them that I cannot remember being abducted but I can remember something about *Name delete* being abducted. They ask what it was and I try to explain but I feel ashamed for some reason. We then look up something in the phone book and there is a church number that says that they can help if they’ve been abducted by aliens. There is something about a government reward in the 6 0’s range and it is in pounds. We are suddenly walking through a shopping mall and I notice a movie about bug eyed aliens that I remember seeing the cover of in Crazy Clarks. I turn back and notice that my grandmother on my mother’s side is there. I ask her about some actor and she tells me she was in crackerjack and she nods towards a bowls pitch near where we are headed. It is clear glass opening door in a flat building but inside it is definitely a church. There are flowers and people singing to some hymn. We walk inside reluctantly and my grandmother is no where to be seen. The priest tells us to come in and sit down and then I woke up for real.

Is that weird or what? Anyone a pyschology major?
The State of It

I have had many horrific nightmares, probably owing much to traumatic times in my life.

One that I remember vividly was one I had years before September 11th.

There was a fuel tanker in our street, that was just sitting there with the driver in it, everybody including me were being kept behind a tape by the police, and the police were talking to the driver on their walkie talkies to his CB.

The policeman would say "Get out of the vehicle"

and the truck driver would respond over the radio, saying calmly:

"No thankyou, there is a bomb on board, and I want to die."

and this went go on and on, until the truck driver said "Well, that's it, time to die now, there's a bomb on board."

And then the truck exploded into a ball of flame.

The most horrible, horrible part was that the policeman's walkie talkie was still on and you could hear the truck driver screaming as he was burnt to death.

He would scream "AAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEE!"

It was horrible, and he would scream "I DON'T WANT TO DIE!!! AAAAAAIIIIIIIIEEEE!"

Nasty.

My worst nightmares, the kind where I wake up rather than watching any more of them, all involve Vietnam in some way or other. In the very worst sort of these, it's my family and Vietnam all mixed up together somehow.

A recurring dream involves my two sons and me. The three of us are dressed in some sort of combat uniform and carrying weapons. Mark, my oldest is severely wounded and I go just totally berserk, killing so many of an unseen enemy that I wind up wading in blood up to my hips. This is usually where I wake up ... deliberately, usually thinking "This dream has GOT to go!"

The surprising thing is that I really didn't see much of what most people think of as "action" when I was in Vietnam; it was all brief, small unit firefights, or ( in the case of our Counterinsurgency team ) brief, intense hand-to-hand. I was personally involved in only two of those.

Go figure.

She was talking to the air as if she had an imaginary friend. Then, all of the sudden she stopped and and looked towards me as if she noticed i was there. Then she took off her bandages and i saw bone around the areas of her eyes, she had no skin there. As if she were crazy she ran after me.....and then i woke up. :sniper: i wanna kill that b1tch

Okay, thanks for all the support. Even as we speak, my devious little mind is processing these stories...

BTW, why is everyone on these forums depressed or neurotic or addicted or some other unfortunate thing?

Oh, and about legalities: All these are mine. Those who resist will die. Do not argue with your grand tyrant, or I'll sic my vicious gangs of keep left signs on you.

I'd think the reverse would be worse.

Having had said nightmare (way back on page one) again last night, let me add- Down in that shitty house on White Oak (anyone in Raleigh? Off Six Forks, near the Rialto), with my pet roach and everything. I haven't lived there for about ten years, so I don't know anyone nearby, and Mom's husband (who at least takes some of her rantings) ain't there. I somehow can no longer find the humor in when she, recalling an argument at work, gets into a shouting match with her dinner convinced that it's a co-worker talking back to her.

Just in case you wanted a few more details.

I'm writing a horror story, and I'd apreciate some imput. And not comedic things, please: while being chased by a huge pair of boots with teeth is horrible while you're dreaming it, it's monumentally stupid when you wake up.
i have a dream in which i find a loved one dead in a pool of blood. i try to perform CPR but cannot remember how to do it correctly, and end up just pushing really really hard on his chest until i feel his ribs crack under my palms (which is a horrifying feeling). his blood is all over my hands and i realize that it is still warm. at that point i usually wake up. the really scary part is that my hands hurt after i wake up, they ache and feel hot, even though i know for a fact that i was dreaming and it is purely psychosomatic. aspirin has never helped. i usually can't get back to sleep without holding an ice cube for a while or running my hands under cold water.

I have no earthly idea what you might consider outrageous. The only things I can think of that I think are totally outrageous are either obscene or something Commando2 would say. I suppose that could be considered redundant.

Thank you for all the fluffles! :D

I consider almost anything posted by the far left to be totally outrageous, although almost anything attacking the US or military personnel or related issues, particularly if it's completely lacking in logic, reason or facts tends to get me a bit riled. ;)
