The egyptians...
"You know egyptians used to worship cats"
"yeah... they also worshiped dung beetles"
Okay, mostly it was an excuse for the quote.

The most fun ancient religion is the Elykites ancient worship of the mighty god Branin.

Well, though the Britannic Celts were my favourite, you shouldn't exclude the Gauls. Celtic paganism would've been the most appropriate. And the various forms of that are certainly the coolest of all religions to have ever existed.

And there is no evidence besides the writings of Caesar, who was at physical and propaganda war with the Celts, that they practised human sacrifice.

HEY! Doesn't anyone else think Atheism is a kick-ass ancient religion? And best of all, it is still widely practiced!!

But they didn't have any festivals or ritual drug use or orgies or drinking or anything like that...
And they couldn't curse people and damn them...
:(
We atheists and agnostics need a week-long festival to celebrate...something.

Well, Celtic paganism, British paganism- exuse me, I know that was a mistake, but I got it across, right? Also, as to the human sacrifices, there are quite a lot of celtic buildings with human skulls and things in them.

Well, there aren't any Celtic "buildings" left, per se. There are megalithic constructs, which we have indeed found human remains in. But there is no evidence that they were sacrificed.

Much of it is closely related to Egyptian Set-worship, but I don't know if that's a coincidence or not.

Yes, but that existed pre-Christian. It is also very similar to Wicca, but I'm pretty sure that Satanism is a contemporary religion.

Supposedly there was some back in the Inquisition days, but that was probably just propaganda that the Catholic Church cooked up and later the CoS decided to use.

I wonder why two contemporary religions were included in the poll, Especially when one is the third largest in the world today, with 900 million adherents (http://www.adherents.com/Religions_By_Adherents.html)?

Sumerian... of course I do attempt to be a practitioner of it. And am a firm believer in the stories, myths, and everything else asscociated.

As for that, I have aquestion..
Sumerian Relegion- Blood, sacrifice, and prostitution!

Where does blood come in? I demand you find me one reputable source showing the use of blood in any ritual.
Same with sacrafice, I know that one must sacrafice to the gods, but it's not usually animal sacrafice unless you're a preist or king, anything else is offerings of wheat, paper, things like that, to the gods.
Prostitution, can't argue withthat one.

PS: Don't quote me that "Sumerian Reconstrustionist" livejournal page, most of them are using Wicca as a base to their ritual, and Wicca is not Sumerian.
As well, don'tquote me anything Akkadian, Assyrian, Babylonian, or from the "Necronomicon". None of them are Sumerian.

Satanism could be any age really, I think they go off the hebrew word, satan meaning the adversary, and they follow under the claim that they challenge the set forms of religion. Christians are the first people to have satan/sammael.

Wicca, if it is simular, would be by later forms, because Wicca is very new, something like late '60s early '70s, so not ancient, and nothing for things to be based on. They hold simalar faiths as some of the old religions, but nothing major.

The "Necronomicon" was invented by H.P. Lovecraft, the master of all that is awesome. I made one; once the ink was dry, I stabbed it with a knife and punched myself until I bled. Then I bled all over the pages before burrying it for a week. When I dug it up it had some awesome fungi growing on it.

Also, the Sumerian relegion did not have any blood or sacrifice; however, many Sumerian cultural practices revolved around bloody practices, such as taking a sheep's liver and attempting to tell the future from it O_o*

Wouldn't it have been easier to just use the knife?

Yeah, but for some reason sharp things scare me. I don't mind being punched, or burned, or being deprived of oxygen, or all sorts of other unpleasent things, but I hate being cut.

Greek, but not for the whole Dionysion (or whatever) parties. Mainly because of the depth of it, and it was the first mythology that I ever deeply read into. Not that the others are without equivalent depth, just that I haven't read into them quite so much.... I'm biased. Sue me. It's mainly for the Titans, actually. Because Kronos rules so much.
