When do you think it'll be the media that controls news?

I can imagine media merging with entertainment...

Executives paying thousands just for a car-chase scence

Millions for a shootout, murder, rape...

anything to get their hands on a sexy story.

I think it will be pretty soon, considering how much exstensive coverage they do already. They did an ungodly number of episodes on the lacy peterson trial

a minimum of 10 years ago. Probably more.

(they do pay for stories.)

I didn't even watch the news and I heard about it like 50 times at least
It's just wrong, that someone could air so much about it

Um ... I was under the distinct impression that the media already controlled the news ... that news had already merged with "entertainment." Learning has at least partially done so as well; they even have a word for it: "Edutainment."

Um, if by "media" you meant "news media", then sadly television news has already begun it's evolution into a mess of entertaining stories. The larger corporate news networks have lost most of their credibility in recent years. Sellouts.

I dunno, I'm thinking of Robert Sheckley's 'the 10th victim', or even Max Barry's 'Jennifer Government'.

It's not far off. Not far at all.

Sorry. I don't get subtle hints in the morning. Ah, let's be honest I don't get any sort of hints before 11 am ;)

The media already controls the news, and news (TV news at least) threw journalistic integrity to the wind to merge with (more like "get devoured by") entertainment a long time ago.

At the risk of sounding cliche, I think the more important problem is that big corporations control the media, and thus influence what gets covered on the news.
