I just found out that my very good friend's dad died yesterday while fighting a fire. I don't know what to do. Do i call him, do i visit him, do i wait it out and eventually talk to him? I have no idea. I need some suggestions/tips. please.

Just tell him you are sorry for his loss and you are there for him if he needs you, then leave the rest up to him. He might not want to talk to anyone right now, but at least he'll know that when he's ready to, you're available.

Visit him. Tell him you're deeply saddened by his loss and that you're there for him any time he would like to talk. When he's ready to talk, just listen sympathetically. If you knew his dad very well, or knew some stories about him ( particularly if they were mildly funny ), you might relate them to him. When you lose someone close, it helps to remember some of the good things they did and some of the mildly amusing things they said or did.

If there is a wake/services go, and talk to him briefly. Express your condolences and ask if there is anything you can do.
If there is a gathering at the house, bring a one-pot meal of some sort. Grieving families sometimes don't feel up to cooking.
