haha, quite possibly true, but also a brilliant manipulation of stats. Somehow doubt that a minimum of 30% of san franciso is crazy (the percentage above the average vote for kerry).

I would imagine most democrats would have low mental health scores after the 2004 Presidential election. I mean, it hurts my head to believe we re-elected the worst president of all time. Plus I would imagine some mental health scores from heavy Bush supported areas would come back not available, due to lack of intelligence. Can't really take a test when you can't think. So I would guess it would be better to be crazy than stupid.

Most of us have thicker skins. After all, there are comedians out there that base their entire act on how "dumb" Bush is. We laugh at them, of course. Admittedly, we use the superior sounding French-through-your-nose kind of laugh.

I would suggest you read that article a bit closer.
1) "Alameda and San Francisco counties were among those that scored lower than expected." Note the "than expected". I doubt that they used the same targets for each county, and hence it is still possible that overall, they were less crazy than Bush counties.
2) "County by county comparisons are always difficult because California is a large and very diverse state -- geographically, economically and culturally. Even within counties there are significant amounts of diversity." So, in fact, it's not the State that's crazy. It's specific individuals. Who, last time I checked, only got one vote, the same as anyone else. Assuming they haven't been committed yet.
Both of these suggest that the results aren't as "comprehensive" as you think.

fun fact:
intelligence and "mental health scores" of that nature are negatively correlated, as are education and such scores. that is to say, the smarter a person is, and/or the more educated they are, the lower their mental health score will be. the phrase "ignorance is bliss" has strong grounding in fact.
so the crazies vote Kerry, the stupids vote Bush. now that we are done tossing pointless insults about an election that is over, can we all get on with our lives? pretty please? if not for your own sakes, please spare a thought for those of us who though Bush and Kerry were both the dregs of American politics...we lost the election way back in the Democratic primaries, so we have been listening to this irrelevant crap that much longer.

If there is one thing I would like to change about Presidential politics, it would be the primaries. I'd rather see a return to backroom deals and nominations on the convention floor that what we have to endure now.
The general election is decided by electors, why not have the state primaries decided by something other than popular vote?

On the more serious side, is it possible that the rather limited results were skewed towards those who actually got help for their problems. After all, some of the craziest people never see a mental health professional.

Linking IQ to who people vote for is not a good idea, the facts can be manipulated on many levels. For example, the people most likely to vote democrat are high school dropouts and PhDs. People who graduated high school to a Masters degree are likely to vote Republican. The real problem with people who vote for Kerry and his ilk is not a lack of intelligence (although that would help). Rather, it is a lack of touch with reality and a failure to look at the world view. They cant seem to quite grasp certain realities in this world. It is really quite a shame.

Right about now is a good time to recap what's happened in this thread. I didn't count all the entries in all the categories, but there were some interesting things going on.
First, a few people saw right through me and realized this was supposed to be satire, humor, or something other than a critical essay on mental health and voting patterns.
Second, there were a lot of posts accusing me of fanning the flames, so to speak. I don't try to do that, but gee whiz, get a thicker skin!
Last, there were a few people that really thought I was doing the essay mentioned in the second paragraph. And they wanted to do rebuttals. I really appreciated the IQ chart and the references to how low we Georgians score. Now, I know that I should really strive to live in an intelligent liberal state. This really was a spur of the moment thing. I read the article and wondered how heavily those counties went for Crazy Kerry.
