and that's why we it's 'father' and 'He' ?
Surely if God is an infinite being, he can't be of a mortal gender? The Lord if genderqueer for me.

I've always thought that if there was a God, and some of the ways people described God were true, she sounds like a woman. Mother of the world, motherly instincts and such. That's just my take on it though.

God is beyond our comprehension.

Does it really matter?
I say no, it doesn't. Not one bit.
If "God" does exist the gender would have to be female.
A male could never be this nasty... :)
a supernatural mythos created in the image of an indiviudal to give his arrogance reassurance that, in the infinite void of space, the individual is actually of such significance that the universe could not survive without him or her.
And since the individual is of such importance to the universe, the individual surely does not die entirely upon the end of all metabolic processes. Instead an inner essence goes on eternally so that the universe can surely revel in its eternal existence as well.
Unless, of course, the individual goes againt the politics of the supreme mytho-figure and the essence, upon its leaving of the physical body, is cast into the center of the earth where it will be placed in a fiery pit of eternal physical torment (assuming an essence sans physical form can actually feel or even acknowledge physical torment without the use of any physical senses).
If I were to play along with the trite little game of "I'm Universally Significant" I would enjoy imagining that god takes the form of a black woman (like Roz from Night Court) everytime someone from the Klu Klux Klan wishes entry into the transcended deity realm.

People give non-human things human qualities all the time. Poll's just asking what human quality you project onto said thing-that-cannot-be-considered-human. If there is a God it's genderqueer (he he). That's what I'd assume... Bible was written by men mostly, so they probably started it with the "He" :P
Ken=genderqueer
He he. Yup.
The truth is that we were genetically modified by extraterrestrials millions of years ago from the australopithecus!
These were are gods! These constituted the ancient 12 gods in Olympus and the Egyptian gods!
Christ was also alien!
HOWEVER, God exists but not as a man or a woman! It is stupid to suggest that God has sex! It is the Creator! Don't think of God as wearing trousers or skirts! God has no body! God is a force, an energy! ;)

The Creator of all objects, of all life is entirely without the need or use for gender. The reason that the Holy Scripture refer to God in the male gender is because the male characteristics are often protrayed in God's interactions.
"Know thou that the distinction between male and female is an exigency of the physical world and hath no connection with the spirit; for the spirit and the world of the spirit are sanctified above such exigencies, and wholly beyond the reach of such changes as befall the physical body in the contingent world."

EDIT: And please explain why you think god is said sex/gender.
A god's gender is symbolic of its function: On one hand you have the male god who lives on the mountain, tossing out commandments with a big, booming voice, throwing thunderbolts down on the little humans below. This male god exists as a moral guide and therefore commands with unquestionable authority, i.e. Father Knows Best. The male god creates the world as something apart from himself, to be guided, molded and shaped into being in a work of art this is, inevitably, deemed "good". Then he sits back and lets it all play out.
The female god, on the other hand, is an immanent creator. All that is came from her, from her "womb", as a part of her, and she remains an integral part of it. Creation, in this sense, is going on around us every moment of everyday in a never-ending process. It is a much more hands-on approach than sitting back and letting the world take care of itself. She is represented in various forms as her creation; as the land, the water, the earth itself, as fountain streams and deep caverns. Here, morality is simply what is necessary at any given moment in time.
The Christian's concept of god today combines the two: God as the first-born male son of the virgin mother (her image utterly necessary to understand his as a part of humanity), intervening in an integral way in the lives of humans but always apart from them in death, up in heaven. Such is the image of Jesus.

Non-existent.
Only a female could be that sadistic.
I don't know, and it doesn't matter. I guess I'll find out when I die. I'd guess he is both, because everyone is created from his image. I'd think that if you combined the features of everyone in the world, you'd get what God looks like.
After more deep thinking on this, I'd have to say God is "Omnisexual".

As I am male, I tend to associate a deity with myself, and as such, he is male.
Only a male god could do such a piss-poor job in creating the universe and an even worse job running it. As a male myself, I must try and emphasize our organisational failures.

An interesting article on the subject (http://www.christian-thinktank.com/wnogod.html)
I refuse to vote in the poll as you can not give human features to God.
Er, man was created in God's image didn't you know?
So are you saying the Bible itself is blasphemous?
But anyway, I don't think he has a gender, I shall not vote as this poll is just stupid.

If god is a figment of my imagination, god will be whatever I imagine, right? I would prefer it be a girl, but that's 'cause I'm male. The whole "Real men love God" bumperstickers I have seen would be really weird if god was male.

If this "god" you like to talk about exists, why would he look like a human?
Imagine: he/she bothered to create millions of different bug-races but only one human race that still exists. Wouldn't it be wiser to think he's actually a bug?

I actually just talked to my father, who is a theologist. He said that god was always referred to in the plural in Hebrew(the original language of the bible).
My mother also said something like there were 72 names of god, in which god was referred to as male, female, or male with a female root (the root of the word meaning womb) or not defined.
So, does that solve the issue?
If this "god" you like to talk about exists, why would he look like a human?

no, i think most people have a belief in a Greater Power than themselves, but wouldn't necessarily attach the anthropromorphic image described in the Bible.
