If you where wondering why San Franciscans hold him so dear, this is a pretty good indicator:
Whoever after due and proper warning shall be heard to utter the abominable word "Frisco", which has no linguistic or other warrant, shall be deemed guilty of a High Misdemeanor, and shall pay into the Imperial Treasury as penalty the sum of twenty-five dollars.
That and us Northern Californians are softies for a well meaning eccentric.

Arbitrarilly declaring himself Emperor? My hat's off to him, but I would not recognize him as my Emperor. I would humor him to an extent though, he seems cool enough.

It's good to see that my life's slogan "I have a hat" has spread.

I found a snack food (little toasted sourdough) name after Emperor Norton. I had to explain to the cashier who he was.
