Might as well have no screen saver, then, since the processing power for that would be much more than just leaving the screen as is.

No, unless they are really flashy, they typically are actually better for the monitor and computer, at least in my experience.

Screenshots! Take several at different positions. Save them with sequentially numbered names. Get one of those screensaver programs which uses pictures on your computer (XP has that option built in...) You should be able to set it all up so that your "screensaver" would be a slideshow.

last i heard that hasnt been true since green screens, STANDBY is good for your computer and monitor.
