I tried this once before and it didn't fly.
Is anyone else hooked on Carnivale? If so, what the heck do you think is going on? I am actually taking notes and trying to piece together the symbolism to figure this show out.

I've never heard of it. Got a link? :)

I am not much of a TV watcher, but this thing hooked me and I'm almost obsessed with it. Are they not showing the second season in the UK? The 3rd episode of this season will air Sunday night here in the states. For those who have missed one of the best shows ever made, here is the link.

carnivale is show for narrow minded, ignorant bigots who have never truly, and I dare say ever will, experience the fruit of real life. Like Star Trek viewers. Get a life all of you. For Shame.

Laborous Lollipops, could you explain why you think Carnivale is for "narrow minded, ignorant bigots" without insulting everyone? I've never seen it myself.

I watched a few episodes and then lost track of it. I may go back and try it again.

Oh. It's on HBO. I can't afford the premium channels, since my Time/Warner bill already runs about $104.00/month! :(

I never, and I repeat, never, get hooked on continuing saga programs. Carnivale is truly unique. First of all, its strict adherence to the depression era is amazing and educational. What I love about it is the constant unanswered questions that are raised that you just know can be answered through the symbolism throughout. It's like the ultimate logic problem.
GoodThoughts I watch it every week, and I still get lost...heck I pretty much stay lost. I'm hoping to find someone else who watches it so I can run some of my thoughts by them and perhaps gain another perspective. This program is really a mind twister.

Having never seen it, I couldn't really guess why the show itself could be for ignorant bigots.
However, judging by other posts you have made, you're just trying to annoy fans of the show by saying that.

I'm a big fan. Here's what I think is happening.
The boy and the preacher are champions chosen by the forces of good and evil, god and satan if you prefer, to play out this round of their eternal game on earth. In the first season reference was made to a false sun rising over trinity. I interpreted this as a reference to the first nuclear test at trinity site, NM. In the second season the kid receives a vision of the nuclear explosion, so my hunch was confirmed. The battle will play out and influence the fate of the world by deciding what America will do with it's nuclear weapons.

But what part does Management play? He seems to be encouraging Ben to follow the "good" path, but he has orchestrated some pretty evil things. Also, now that Ben has confirmed that Management is the Russian soldier seen in his dreams, how is he connected to Brother Justin and Iris as they were Russian born? Is Scudder the father of Sophie and Ben and where might their relationship lead? Who else might he have fathered? He seems to get around. Why does Scudder have to die for Brother Justin to become the Usher?
Augh!!
I think I will try it again.
Go the the program's website and read the synopsis on each of the episodes. It will give you some footing on where it is right now, though the visuals are very important in figuring this thing out. Drunk commies is right about it being good vs evil with nuclear holocaust at the core, but sorting out the path and importance of each of the players is boggling. One scene that has me puzzling is Brother Justin (evil) peeling off his face and underneath is Ben (good).

Management is an agent of good, but a ruthless one.
Scudder is a mystery yet to be revealed. I think he was supposed to play Ben's part once, but rebelled.

I'm wondering if Management isn't evil, and is trying to control Ben and therefore his powers. Ever wonder if Iris and Justin are his children that he believes were killed in the train wreck?

Possible I suppose. I didn't catch that his kids were killed in a train wreck. It would make sense.

There was nothing about Management's kids being in the train wreck. I'm going on the Russian link.

Just trying to piece clues together. Anyway, Episode 3 tonight in an hour and a half.
