This is true! I've had more fun with my granchildren and have learned more from them, than almost anything else in my life. :)

About adoption, I adopted my ex's three children from her first marriage, and we had two more. She and I may not agree on lots of things now, but at least we agreed about how to raise children, and one of the things we insisted on was that all five of them be treated the same ... no favoritism!

Seems to have worked; they're all really good people now ( ages from 41 down to 31 ) and they all love one another. :)

I used to have a bumper sticker that said something like "If I had known how much more fun grandchildren were than children I would have had them first."
All 4 of my kids were adopted and I couldn't have loved natural born kids more. Plus, I had the advantage that they were all housebroke when I got them.

Well, it is for me, but there are almost certain to be a few more. My older son got a divorce before he and his ex had any children ( thank goodness! ), and he'll make a great dad so I imagine he'll have about two or three. My best estimate for the "final" number is 12. Verily, my tribe increaseth! :D

Don't be in any rush to have your own children, if you want some advice. Give yourself a chance to find the right spouse, get well-established in a good career ( preferably one you enjoy and can do well at ), have a couple of years together with just you and your spouse so you can get to know each other really well, THEN have the kids. :)

Good morning, e-daughter! Hope you have an absolutely fantastic day! Mebbe win the lottery or something, eh? :D [ big, ole Poppa hugs! ]

They're going to need babysitters, and pretty soon too! My ex spends an incredible amount of time taking care of our ever-growing herd of grandchildren, but I suspect she's reaching her limit, though ( stubborn twit that she is ... sorry about that ) she would never admit it. Heh!

EDIT: BTW ... you're an aunt to Callie, Katie, Samuel, Benjamin, Jonathan, Joseph, and now Caleb ( in descending order by age )! Sure you can stand all that? :D

Really think about kids for a minute. In showing love, trust, and devotion to another, you create another human being...or, in my case, in showing love, trust, and devotion, accept another human being into your life. That child is an extension of you and it is up to you to mold him/her into the person he/she will be for as long as they live. You have the opportunity to love someone with no reservations and nurture them to be a positive force. They may have a positive influence on only one or two people, or they may usher great changes for humanity. The potential is there and it is yours to encourage. What an awesome responsibility...but what an unmatched gift!!

Thank you...you're the first person to fluffle me. Back atcha. :fluffle:

Very, very true. The effects of having ( or adopting ) a child will reverberate down through the remainder of history. By being a positive influence in the early years of a small person, you make a contribution to the future of us all, one which we can now only try to imagine.

I like to think that one of my grandchildren, or one of their children, will one day find a way to allow us all to live in peace, or be the first human to set foot on a distant world, or discover the cure for some palgue on humankind, or ... well, you get the picture.

You are not only loving and compassionate, but wise. My respects to you. :)

Nah. I'm just one of those nutty people who get a kick out of kids. They're a hoot!! Let me tell you a basically pointless story, but one that means a lot to me.

My husband and I commute together each day. I drop him at work then drive through a pretty bad part of town to get to my office. I pass a number of school bus stops on the way and see the same kids every day. I make a point of smiling and waving at all of them...kind of letting them know I am there if they have a problem. There is one bus stop where a girl of about 14 or so waits by herself each morning. Half a block up is a rescue mission that shelters homeless men. Well, this little girl insists on standing in the street to wait for her bus. I once tried to talk to her about the dangers of this, but she responded with some pretty foul language and just positioned herself further out in the street on subsequent mornings. A couple of weeks ago, when I came up to her bus stop, one of the men from the shelter was harrassing her. She was absolutely stricken with fear. I pulled up and popped my passenger door open. Without hesitation, she hopped in with me. We locked the doors and used my cell phone to call 911. When the police showed up they found the man and took him away. Since then, she waits on the sidewalk and greets me each morning with a big wave and smile. I like to think I was there because this young lady has important contributions to make. At the very least, she learned a valuable lesson in trust and respect.

COUNT on it! :D

He's as dissimilar to his brother as can be! Jonathan is blond haired, blue-eyed, and fair complected. Caleb has black hair, dark brown eyes, and is dark complected. My son, like me, is of mostly Swedish extraction with a smattering of other European cultures and a tad of American Indian. His wife is primarily of Italian and Brazilian extraction. So the wide variations in coloration are to be expected.

Caleb seems like a very calm lil guy, and has long fingers, a long straight nose, and very long legs. I only got to hold him for a moment since there were lots of other family members there. We were all passing him around like a sack of potatoes. Heh!
