If at first you don't succeed , change the terminology

"Gun Control" advocate Sen. Rob Garagiola, D-Montgomer (MD), having failed to reenact the "Assault Weapon Ban" in MD is rightfully now going after the criminals.

However, he's doing this by introducing a new term "CopyCat weapons" that is so vague as to include even more guns than the original bills. He's also using sources that obviously have no idea about guns whatsoever, "Suburban Hospital trauma surgeon Dany Westerband said when semi-automatic weapons are used against people there is little chance of survival even with the best medical care.
" This Dr. has no clue. The weapon used in the DC sniper murders is less powerful than your average bolt action hunting rifle. Also being used is the standard emotional tactics " "I can't imagine how anybody would have conscience to vote against it," said Sen. Jennie M. Forehand, D-Mongtomery."

If this bill is as advertised, going after the criminals, more power to it. I'm hoping that no "poison pill amendments " are added to itor already included to make it a banning bill.

You conveniently left this part out:

"It has wide support, with more than 18 senators set to back it and numerous law enforcement officials writing supportive letters, Garagiola said.

Baltimore also will back the legislation, Acting Baltimore City Police Commissioner Leonard Hamm said, because it is 'consistent with our crime strategies for Baltimore County.'"

How about the 82 Senators who have no commitment, and the house who will certainly shoot it down?

Which is why I said more power to it if it acts as advertised. Bills like this , punishing criminals, are ones I strongly support. My fear is that it will be twisted into a banning bill or used as a precedent for one. This is justified in that the sponsor is using fear, lies, and emotional arguements for his case no matter how good the bill is.

This is a state legislation w/ 47 senators and 141 Delagates. So there are 29 noncommitted senators (even though I believe all politicians should be committed) and no info on Delagate support.

So you're saying all Democrats support gun control and all Republicans are opposed to it?

I'll admit it sounds fishy, but what's his definition of a 'copy-cat' weapon?

That'd be nice to know.

It's funny how ignorant that doctor was, who was quoted. No Common Sense 101 in med school?

The bill also would ban what it calls the "copycat weapon," which as defined in the proposed legislation is a semi-automatic weapon with a detachable magazine or a weapon that is designed for high-volume output.

"The bill language would create a brand new legal term, copycat weapon," said Purtilo, adding that it fails to adequately define what constitutes a copycat.

Basically most hunting rifles.
