I'm a roulette fan myself...

It depends if you're good at the game, and how they shuffle the cards. :)

Seeing as how most people prefer poker, may I suggest Pacific Poker (http://www.pacificpoker.com/).

You just download the program, and you can play online with people. You can play with real money or fake, and there's lots of tournaments all the time.

Have fun.

Video poker or black jack. The house edge is very small, and it's really hard to get into trouble.

poker is the ONLY game you should play at a casino. it is the only game where you play against other people with equal odds of winning. its the only game where skill counts. its the only game where you arent playing against the house

and its wicked fun.

Casinos suck balls, the dealers always rush you, and you have to be constantly focused, I lose way to much money even playing just plain old black jack.

Playing nickle games agianst friends, the best game is Texas hold em cuz you have tons of rounds of betting and huge pots which is fun. Playing for real money horse racing is the best if you go to the track, cuz you have plenty of time to liesurely plot you strategy and you can be pretty drunk when you do it. Yeah I know horse racing isn't really a casino game.

I disagree a little. I love poker, but I enjoy most any game except craps. (Tho I get bored of slots after the third pull).

In poker, you do NOT have equal odds. As you say, it's a game where skill counts. I agree with you there. And people are not equally skilled. :)

BTW: skill is necessary in baccarat, blackjack and roulette as well. Contrary to what most people seem to think, routlette is strictly speaking NOT random.

Craps is by far the best casino game. Esp when you have a good roller. Everybody is trying to beat the house, and everybody is rooting for you when you throw those bones. I won over $10,000 last Halloween playing craps starting with only a $100 at Caesers in Atlantic city. I didn't throw em as I have no arms, but my wife did a good job.

Craps kicks ass. I'm not a big gambler, but I've got a betting strategy for craps. I win more than I lose. Typically I'll go in with $100 and come out with $200

craps is the most FUN casino game.

my problem is that i dont go to a casino to have fun (although i do enjoy it) i go to make money. if you want to make money consistantly, you play poker, anything else and the house's edge eats you up over time. (in the wrong casino at the wrong time of day, the casinos take of each pot will ruin your chances of actually making money)

If you know how to properly bet in the game of craps you will consistently win more then in any other game, even blackjack.

I don't care for craps... it's got excitement, but since I saw a guy literally taking some other guy's chips off the table... and the guy not even knowing... well, any game that needs 3 croupiers can't be on the up and up. ;)

I took Blackjack for one simple reason. Its the ONLY game that a player can get to 50/50 odds against the house. Everything else like playing the outside on Roulette or the pass line on Craps is only 48/52 percent chance of winning with the bigger number on the side of the house. Video poker has ok odds for those that don't like tables.
Roulette and Craps are completely random games unless you have a very talentes roulette dealer that is willing to cheat. Roulette however along with craps, and baccarat are almost impossible to lose at if you know how to money manage. The mathematical probability of it is staggering.
Blackjack in the end though is more consistent. I haven't lost in a casino in years because I know how to beat these games.
Poker is the most fun for me because it is PvP. I love the mental involvment, however it isn't a consistent money maker in alot of places.

Roulette, because you can bet either on "Red" or "Black, and thus narrow your odds down to 50/50, much better than in other games.

Actually red and black on Roulette are not a true 50/50 because of the 0 and 00 spots. R & B are actually closer to 48/48 on an american roulette wheel. On a European one there is only a single 0 spot thus making R & B 49/49 approximately.

There are 38 spots on an American Roulette wheel: 36 (18 each of red and black) plus the two green 0 and 00 spots. 18+18+2=38

Therefore, betting on either red or black (or for that matter Odd or Even, or 1-18 or 19-36) is actually 47.37%. (18 divided by 38 (times 100)). This gives green (the two zeros) a 5.26% chance of coming up.

On a French wheel, there is only one 0 with 37 spaces. This changes the ratio a bit, but not that much for red or black:
Red or black: 48.65%
Green (0) : 2.7%

Note: the number sequence on the two wheels is VERY different. So if you have a system/betting practice on one wheel, it's *useless* on the other. For example, suppose on a French wheel you always play your birthday, the 17th, plus 25 and 34 to make a little "wedge".
On a US wheel, your numbers are not near each other. Instead, you'd need 5 and 32!

BTW, the reason why American wheels have two zeros? The original French wheel had 'em. Then when the French came up with the new wheel (around 1860 or so), they sold (en masse) the old wheels to US casinos!

Very good percentages, thats why I said that its closer to 48% for red or black on US wheels and 49% on euro wheels.
Any true betting system can stand up on either wheel. I've beaten them both, though its a touch easier on a Euro wheel because it only has a single 0. Just play a set of numbers, like 17 and the neighbors isn't really a system. Its just what numbers you bet. Its like the guy who always bets on 34, 35, and 36. Theres no system, they're just his numbers. He plays, usually loses, then goes to the bar for a drink.
The only thing that stops near perfect betting systems are the table limits. The limits are how casinos make money.

True, I was using a simple example. :)

I'm assuming you're talking about Martingales, et al?
I've actually been experimenting with wedges... having had the good fortune to discover a couple of biased wheels where I gamble.
Cancadia

Martingale is a better system for Blackjack then roulette, though it does work well there too.
2 in a Row is a system specially designed for roulette that I use. It works equally well on anything thats close to a straight up 50/50 style bet like the pass line on craps or baccarat.
Wedge betting can do alright especially with a biased wheel. Just learn how to spin track and the wheel doesn't matter. You'll be able to kill tables with dealers that are too steady.
I've watched it done where I work. It can cause ALOT of money to change hands very quickly.

What I've been playing at is that I've found two specifically queer wheels at the same location. Both were consistent regardless of the croupier.

One (on several visits!) was queer for four specific numbers, plus the "antipode" numbers on the other side of the wheel. One of these 8 numbers was coming up almost every 3 spins!! Further, the zeros (and probably some numbers I didn't notice) were NEVER coming up.

The other wheel kept getting "stuck". About every ten or twelve spins, it would repeat the same number 3 spins in a row. Never seen anything like it. This was at the same casino, so I'm curious to see on my next visit if it's been "repaired".

I suspect (having played in Prague and Bratislava) that American wheels are more likely to have "personalities", since the croupiers always spin them in just one direction.

Wow, that sounds like a gold mine just waiting to be tapped. I'm surprised the croupiers and and pit bosses haven't noticed and asked for some maintenance.
The wheel we use at my casino is given regular maintenance every two weeks minumum. Its give a quarter spindle turn every week on top of that and gets resurfaced once every 6 months. We use an American wheel here but you'll find that wheel condition depends on the casino and state/province its in. In British Columbia where I work we have very strict standards for keeping all gaming equipment in primed condition. You'll find that casinos in Nevada are the same way. A bad wheel can cost a casino its gaming licence.
Some casinos have both left and right handed tables and purposely switch the wheels back and forth so that they get equal time in both directions as well.
Some wheels are made better then others too. We use a TCSJohnHuxley wheel here as they tend to be the highest quality roulette wheels available.
My advice is watch the wheel for a bit, track the numbers if you're allowed with a pen and paper. Find 6 numbers in a series that are constantly hitting and then bet heavy on them. You should be able to crush a table if the wheel is as biased as it sounds. Depending on where you play its all perfectly legal in some areas of the world.

Read about a great sting operation in place in one casino, think it was eastern europe but i'm not sure. Basically, these three guys went into expensive casinos and used a special device which looked a little like a pen to track the speed with which the ball was spinning (infa-red maybe? cant remember) and get a pretty accurate estimate of where it would land.
They were caught pretty easily, but it turned out there was no specific law governing the use of such devices so they got off

One can make money off of anything...

Which brings me to another question: Why gamble? For the thrill? For the fun? To win? To make $$$?

Personally, I view gambling as entertainment... when I win, so much the better. :)

I like the video poker machines...but let me tell you something - those things are slick. I firmly believe they let people win a couple of hands just to get them to increase their bet, and then hammer them with a big loss. That was what happened to me at Niagara Falls, anyway (which is closer than AC or Vegas for me...besides, it's a foreign country, and both my fiancee and I can gamble, seeing as how she's only 20 and just needs to be 19 in Canada.)

The Casino industry is so heavily regulated, the machines operate purely on luck, and thats all thats needed for the casinos to win.

Dice is a great game. It's the only real game of chance where you have a good opportunity to beat the house odds. Plus, you can bet with the house on the Don't Pass line. Everyone hates you, but you win that way.

That's one strategy, and you can make money quickly on that strategy, but I prefer the slower way. It involves playing the pass line, and putting money on 6 and 8, the most likely rolls other than 7, plus some side bets for fun. You grind out money slowly, but the odds are better.

Maybe in the U.S. there are these laws, but I don't know about Canada, where I was. I imagine there are similar laws, but there are easy ways to rig the machines subtlely. How are regulators going to detect something like that?

That's true. The thing about any gambling is that there are streaks. If I'm having a streak, that's great. I do the same sort of thing. Double odds even make it better. Same thing if I watch a shooter that is on a good streak.

At times like that, I can understand why gambling is so addictive. It's just so much fun! You roll the dice and you get a bunch of chips, roll again and you get more. You start getting encouragement from the guys next to you to roll your next point becaus he's betting with you... It's just great.
