What does everyone think of blogs, in general, and do you think they're overrated? Also, what are some of the best blog sites?

I recently started one with xanga.com - I think it's going along pretty well so far. There are some pretty interesting things to read about other people!

Dumb question: What's a blog?

(Yes, I'm an idiot when it comes to computers, so sue me :headbang: )

Haha, no prob! My friend asked the exact same thing. ;)

A blog is basically an online journal. You can set it to public viewing or private and I think also by invite only... not too sure about that one, though. People, recently, have been using them to find out quick info. about friends/family in the tsunami, etc.

Soz, should've gave the definition in my first post!

I've been hearing about blogs a lot lately, and had no idea what they were either, so don't feel like you're the only one! For some reasons I pictured cyborgs....oh wait, that was the borg, not blog. Nevermind.

I think some people take them way too seriously.

I just use mine kind of like a journal. By the way, a good site is LiveJournal.

Yeah, I agree. I've looked at a few and although they look really cool, you know they were definitely time consuming. Like living out of their journals instead of RL.

I definitely prefer Livejournal to Xanga. Maybe it's just because I found LJ first or something - but I just dislike Xanga's layout, I like the default LJ look.

Blogs are for idiots. A journal is just that, a book. Blogs are like the "mini-golf" of websites. Why don't these morons just make a real website? :headbang:

Calling me an idiot, eh? Haha. Websites take up too much time. At least for me when I could just type some stuff up.

The actual purpose for my blog is because I have a buddy over in Iraq right now. I decided to start one so he'd be able to catch up on the latest news if he gets enough time online. Better than having me not be online or having to remember what happened when and all that stuff, in my opinion.

great idea and all, but i just cant do em, simply because of the name. weblog = blog, for some reason it bothers the hell out of me. yeah yeah, im odd. that why i had to get one that made no mention of a blog, and called it a journal instead.

Probably because it's much easier to use LJ or Xanga or whatever than make a page for most people. I've already made enough webpages to last me a lifetime - that's NOT the point at stake here.

Lol, the name bugs the hell out of me, too. It's just annoying. I generally refer to it as a blogger since 'blogger' is a cooler word than 'blog'. Yet when thinking of it in the journal term... well, that's just wrong.
