Morocco? want a slave?

A buddy of mine came back from a trip in morocco and told me about this person he came across.
The guy was a slave. His passport listed his name and stated he was a slave. He told my buddy, yes I am the slave of that man.
My friend asks the slave owner "ahhh this is your slave? WTF? "
"yes, we have slaves here, I mean what woudl these people do? I give them food, lodging?"
My buddy had a real urge to scream out all they need is FREEEEEDOOOOOOM ala breaveheart....
Is this guy pulling my leg? wtf? Anyone ever heard of this? Supposedly its in the southern areas of morocco hit by war....

:) Not really...I'm sorry, I'm equating some forms of forced marriages to slavery...and if you know of anyone who pays their wife for doing housework (or husband for that matter), let me know!

Mauritania became the last country on this planet to outlaw slavery in 1980. It is officially against the law everywhere. But old habits die hard. West africa is one of the last places where it is still practiced semi-openly.
However almost every country in the world was on National Georaphics list of places with over 2,500 people in involuntary servitude.

Slavery still goes on in many parts of the world. I was just reading some stuff a few days ago that Sri Lanka is one of the major places in the world for the sex slave trade.
