The video's makers plan to mail it to US schools in the spring to promote tolerance and diversity

Spongebob doesn't promote homosexuality. It promotes beastiality. Note that spongebob can sometimes be seen holding hands with Patrick. Patrick isn't of the same species. It also promotes drug abuse because you have to be really stoned to watch it if you are over 10.

The quote by the guy from the WAFF is the best
WAFF spokesman Mark Barondeso told the newspaper that anyone who thought the video promoted homosexuality "needs to visit their doctor and get their medication increased".

Yup totally hard core stuff....
Patrick also displays sexual perversion in the final scene, when he attends a rock concert wearing fishnet stockings and women's black leather boots.

and a chance for people to vent their own lack of knowledge and homophobia. So let me get this straight, kids are going to copy a a cartoon character and by doing this they are going to decide on their sexuality. I can understand that people who object don't want gay offsrping I mean what will the neighbours say? I thought parents wanted informed kids to make informed decisions on their own at an appropiate time. When I see a bunch of kids looking like Spongebob all saying they love eachother and start performing inappropiately then I'll admitt this is wrong

Yes, I find a sponge being stupid highly offensive. Man, Christians should just lock themselves in the closet if they don't want to see these movies. I'm one of them, but God, I see all kinds of crap.

What a load of balony this is. I am straight but don't have a huge problem with it, why do these religious nutters have such a big thing about them. The gays are happy being gay, and this planet is overpopulated, whats wrong with men not being able to breed! Everyone wins.

SpongeBob - who appears on the children's cable channel Nickelodeon - is seen as an icon for adult gay men in the US, apparently because he regularly holds hands with his sidekick Patrick.
What seriously?
When did this happen? I guess I must have missed this month's issue of Homosexual Agenda. Jeez forget one and you totally lose track of the plan to destroy western civilization.

Jeeze man, you need to stay in touch. You missed more than just one issue of the agenda if you didn't know SpongeBob's popularity was part of the master plan, and secretly brainwashing all kids to be gay and run around naked for the benefit of all us evil gay men, who coincidentally, are also pedophiles and fetishists.

I used to listen to that James Dobson when I was a church-going teenager. Not all the time or anything, but in the car with my mom and stuff. It's embarrassing to see them getting totaly stupid. This isn't even homophobia, it's paranoia.

The problem is that some want them to be informed only about what they, the parents, believe to be right. This probably does not include holding hands with starfish and sponges.

I wasn't even aware starfishes and sponges had hands for them to hold.
I guess those kids will have to settle for holding hands with their same-sex best friend without any second thought, while their parents start preparing the soul-purifying rituals to save their children from the evil satanic influence of perceived gayness.
Meh.
oh no! kids might start to think that sponge-on-starfish sex is acceptable!

The Religious Right will start seeing a Gay Agenda everywhere they look. This is just irrefutable proof of how they've worked themselves up into conducting a... Bitch Hunt.
I wouldn't be surprised if every allegation of Gay Agenda conspiracy collected could make the X Files look like yesterday's junk mail in scale. We could call those.. the XY Files.

These characters are not real, and are not even human, so many may choose to gloss over the animated nude scenes, though it sends a wrong message to children that it's okay to pull down one's pants for a laugh.
You mean it isn't
::Edit:: After reading some of the reviews for other films this website cannot really be faulted though (provided you ignore the 'Moral Rating' and the occasional 'some Christians may be offended.").

SIGH! Sounds like another example of the tendency toward overreaction on the part of some fundamentalists. I hug my grown sons just like I hug my grown daughters. I've actually had some local fundamentalists mention to me that this might give people "the wrong impression." I politely told them to kiss my lilly white azz! :D

Hahahaha,
That is so funny
This is rediculous. Has this world gone so to hell that fucking religious fanaticals have to attack a simple childrens cartoon character. I believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and even to share their opinion but arent we all created equal? If your religion prohibits you from being gay thats fine but do not condemn homosexuals to a life of segregation as if they are diseased. If somebody enjoys a life style that you do not approve of that does not give you the right to banish them. I realize that we havent actually banished them but we may as well have. It's no different than Hitler with the Jews. they had different beliefs so he murdered them. We are not murdering homosexuals but we are subjecting them to a life filled with hate and make them ashamed of who they are like it's wrong. If it doesnt affect you then why must you throw a huge fit about it. It's no different than 7 year old boys saying that girls have 'cooties'. The whole argument that homosexuality is childish and unsupported by fact.

Now this is yet another example that I don't automatically assume that the BBC has its facts straight. They kinda miss Dobson's point, making it sound like he disapproves of Spongebob Squarepants or thinks that Spongebob is gay. As is often the case on certain sensitive issues, the BBC's bias trumps factual reporting. In Dobson's own words:
"..let's be clear that this issue is not about objections to any specific cartoon characters."
He goes on to explain that the objection is over one particular video "slated to be distributed to 61,000 public and private elementary schools throughout the United States" and which has a tolerance pledge which includes a reference to "sexual identity". The objection is that the issue of sexual identity is "beyond the comprehension of 6 and 7 year-old children", and that the distribution of the video "trumps the authority of mothers and fathers [regarding the teaching of moral issues] and leaves it in the hands of strangers whose standards may very well be different than the children they teach." Again, the objection is only for the video itself, not any characters featured in the video.
My source: http://family.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/family.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=17669
Please note that I'm not endorsing or attacking Dobson's view. (Personally, I don't agree with it at certain points, as I tend to think the inclusion of "sexual identity" is at worst, harmless, but I'm also not exactly willing to spew venom and go to war over it either.) I'm just trying to clarify what that view is.

In that optic, I would like to see Mr. Dobson object to the pledge of allegiance in the same fashion. Because, just like this video, the pledge "trumps the authority of mothers and fathers [regarding the teaching of moral issues] and leaves it in the hands of strangers whose standards may very well be different than the children they teach." (especially the "under God" part). Also, one has to wonder if the pledge doesn't have notions that are "beyond the comprehension of 6 and 7 year-old children".

Apparently, Matt Lauer interviewed the creator of the video on NBC this morning. The video guy's foundation has the same name as another group that IS glbt-friendly. Lauer and the video guy were apparently laughing about the mistake (I say apparently because this came to me second hand), and apparently, Focus KNEW about this mistake and pressed on anyway, hoping to score some homophobia points and spread some fear around, again, KNOWING that their argument was built on a flawed premise.
As a friend of mine asked, if you're either conservative and/or a christian, does it bother you knowing there's a group out there that is a conservative christian group that is willfully selling lies of this sort?
