THE US will become Australia's nuclear dumping ground in a remarkable 10-year agreement that takes the pressure off the Howard Government to find a domestic waste site.

As an Australian im alittle shocked, as a South Australian im both relieved and shocked
anyone have opinions?
I personally think it could be great that Australia could move from coal to nuclear but what will it cost us?
hey, if you're relieved as a South Australian you've obviously never been to Port Pirie.

What will it cost us? Very little probably, Australia is very rich in Uranium. Nuclear power should be a good immediate relief on the environment while researching renewable energy efficiency.

Ive driven through it a few times but never had the guts to stop, same as porta gutta (Pt. Augusta) :)
I know that it wouldnt be much of a danger but I dont want to give you Vic's another reason to laugh at us :)
Seriously though I have irrational/unfounded reasons against having it in SA

What a role reversal. The Poms tested their nukes in Australia and let us clean up the mess. Now our nuke waste gets dumped in the US.

Tasmania is a wilderness of leatherwood trees, devils, two headed people, and because of that diversity we should dump it else where. Australian embassy in France? Payback for the French nuclear testing in our backyard, perhaps the Australian consulate in the UK for that matter...

They couldn't find a waste dump in Australia..? How about Melborne..? Ha! but seriously, how much of Australia is completely empty? According to a Bill Bryson book, a militant group was rumoured to have set off a nuclear weapon in the middle of australia and no body noticed...
