Thank you, Europe!

I, personally, on behalf of the truly patriotic Americans (yes, there are still 6 or 7 of us), would like to thank Europe for REACH and extend my hopes that they continue such endeavors to protect not only themselves, but the world, as you grow to become an econimic super power.

I would like to thank you for showing the US that we cannot just run rampant, willy-nilly, with impunity around the globe.

Yes, I am serious. This is not sarcasm. I am glad to see a growing economic power that does not cow to the US and isn't afraid to dole out spankings if needed.

Thanks, Europe! :)

Note: If you don't know what REACH is or don't know its affects on US industry, look it up. If you're too stupid to pay attention to global news instead of just local drivel, then I'm not wasting my time explaining it to you.

Well thanks for that, but I wouldn't be greatful of the EU to quickly. Anything good to come out of the EU is probably purely selfish or down to luck. The EU has come with some really great stuff in it's time though, such an example being the CAP. (If you won't be sarcastic I will)

If you're such an American patriot, wouldn't you be more happy if America limited itself, not letting other nations or organisations do so?

Economic cooperation between the United States and the European Union will definitely bring fiscal rewards to both countries. On that note I agree with you.

I'm a bit unclear on justifying patriotism on the basis of whether or not one supports REACH. I am sure that there are a number of faithful Americans that support REACH and a number who are against it. To me, whether you support an organization or not does not determine patriotism to one's country. There are plenty of people in this world who love their countries, but perhaps strongly disagree with their governments.

Revolutions occur in history (or are supposed to occur) because people in certain nations want to make their nation a better place for their citizens.

To me, Kennedy put it best, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." If your actions, however large or small, make your country a better place, then you my friend are a patriot to your nation.

Although, I'm not to informed on this REACH thing, so I'll look into it and get back to you.

He might be more happy, but that doesnt preclude him from being very happy that it occured at all.

Any parent would be happy if a doctor made their sick child well, regardless of how much 'more happy' they would be if the child somehow cured itself.

America's hopelessly inept and awful use of its own power is a bad thing for america.

Any parent who loved their child would, if they saw him playing with a machine gun, take that gun away.

A chemical bill for Europe? Well thats cute. I dont see how that bill really showsthe US anyhting. And on the economic front, even with 450 million members it still cant hold a candle to us. Their unemployment rates are twice ours, and there economic system isnt geared for economic growth. Its social based, not capital based.

And i agree, you should look to the US and encourage your own country to improve. Do not look to Europe forthe answers to Americas problems.

I completely agree with Malkyer. Ever since Iraq all I've basically heard from Europeans was in the order of "we want America to lose because America is evil." So fuck you.

To continue on your analogy, if you came to my front gate saying you want me to die, I'll shoot you -- with a non-lethal round, of course (such as a beanbag), but it will still hurt like hell.

Also, it almost seems like (correct me if I'm wrong, because I'm probably twisting your words), by your analogy, you think America is a young nation. Well we are, but it seems you're JEALOUS that a younger nation became better than you did in all of your existance (unless your British, in which case you don't like it that us gun-toting rednecks kicked your ass).

Not trying to make enemies, because Europe has some good stuff, and Europeans are overall fairly cool people. I just hate your governments and those that think America is the Great Satan.

Anyways, I digress.

What the hell is REACH? I went on some government site, and from what I gather, all it is is pork. (For those of you who read Jon Stewart's "America: The Book", you'll know what I'm talking about.)

I just dont see the point of Europe giving us advice on foreign policy. They sucked in colonial times. They sucked in moderntimes. France did a wonder with the ivory coast. And the way they handled Yugoslavia was genius. THey gave us vietnam and korea. I would say maybe they learned from their mistakes, butthen they make them all over again.

I have to correct a factual error.

Korea was not the Europeans' fault. A number of nations, namely the United States, Soviet Union, the "People's Republic" of China, and Japan were responsible for allowing the Korean War to happen.

Mostly the blame lies on America and Russia, for not working out a decent occupation/exit plan. China deserves its share too, as they encouraged and later aided the North Koreans. And if Japan hadn't conquered Korea in 1895, none of the other stuff would've mattered.

Sorry. My OCD took hold.

Nice work for the EU. Too bad the EPA has been stripped toothless here. And even the chemicals we got around to banning here are okay for US companies to sell abroad. Like they'll hurt us, but not somebody in a Third world country. By the way, I consider it patriotic to try to improve the way my country does things. There is a difference between patriotism and jingoism.

I saw the video for Dragostea din tei when I was in london for new years, at first i thought it was the most god awful annoying thing i'd seen in as long as i could remember, like gay romanian j-pop happy hardcore techno that sounded like gay italian techno.

Now I like it, and prior to hearing it I didnt know that Romanian had broad elements of Latin grammar.

Additionally, respect is based upon the doing of respectable deeds.

America has lately been doing contemptable things, and has therefore earned not respect but contempt.

The United States, until attacked by Japan in 1941, maintained a successful neutrality in the conflict. The war with Japan was in response to a direct attack on our soil. As for generosity...without American weapons and materiel, Britain and the USSR would have fallen by mid-1942.

America would not have fallen to the Nazis. Germany was simply incapable of attacking the US mainland. They could not project forces very far outside Europe. In fact, Hitler's aim was never world domination, but rather control of Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union, with Siberia and Western Europe acting autonomously under an umbrella of German power; a situation similar to Rome's empire and its various dependent states.

Respect is indeed won by doing respectable things. How is liberating a country of 26 million from a murderous dictator not a respectable thing? I'm sure history will judge that what we did was right.

Speaking of respectable things, in 1861 Britain and France called the United States "hypocrital" for fighting to keep the southern States in the Union. Their logic made sense: a nation founded on revolution was surpressing the revolution of others. However, I doubt you will find many people (outside of the deep, deep, deep South) who argue that fighting the Civil War was wrong.

Respect is not defined by doing the popular thing. It is earned by doing what is right.

Perhaps suprisingly enough, I tend to agree with this. Any superpower ( and I DO mean "any!" ) needs other power centers to keep it honest. Stick up for what you ( as a group ) believe in and don't hesitate to hold our feet to the fire when such is called for. Um ... just don't expect us to like it! :D

Borderline trolling.

If you don't want to link to a source to back up your threads or posts (as "Alien Born" has done for you, in this case), then that's your problem.

Politely asking other NationStates players to understand background material (for which it's preferable, but not required, that you link to) before attempting to refute any of your comments or arguments is one thing. You will not, however, belittle every single NationStates player who does not happen to be as familiar with the issues involved as you.

A repeat incident of this kind will result in an official warning for trolling against you, Keruvalia. If you wish to repost this topic, then you may do so, but you will do so properly.

iLock.
