I'm curious to see whether the ratio of for and against evolution is different for the USA than other nations.

If you are not from the USA, please say what you voted, and what nation you are from.

Taking this seriously.

I voted other. The reason being that science only gives us the best current theory. In terms of the variation of species, and the explanations of the similarities between species, evolution is the best current theory. This does not mean that it is correct. There could be a revolution in biological thinking comparable to the quantum physics and relativity revolution in physics.

I am from somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean close to the Azores, as I was born and educated in the UK but live in Brazil :)

from us and evolution is correct

but my county seems to think that since it's just a theory it should be approached while keeping the bible, creationism, and intelligent design in mind at all times...

freakin cobb county...you can look us up...we're that sticker controversy in federal court...stickers were just declared unconstitutional and of course our stupid school board wants to appeal

This is a really stupid debate. Evolution has been watched both in a lab (really) and in the wild and in any case something would have to be very wrong with our current understanding of biology for evolution not to happen.

Evolution is the best, most accurate explanation available.

Creationism has no scientific grounding and has no place in any science curriculum. (It's perfectly fine in comparative religion and myth classes though, along with all the other creation stories.)

Ahem, no shit. You'd have to be completely ignorant to believe that half the things in the bible are true. Noah's ark, ridiculous. Religion can never be proven because it is bullshit. 'Nuff said.

I have also studied other languages and English is not too bad. Other are worse (I am thinking about all the verb conjugations of French, the genders of Spanish, the declinations of German...)

Not for me I'm the right side of the Atlantic for my own opinion. What the USA want to think doesn't really effect the grand scheme of things. Just as long as we don't go to war about it. O shit I hope George isn't reading this ;)

Thankyou, that's quite a stupid mistake I made there.

Also, I do not "pick on" people's spellings. Sometimes I correct them, because this helps them to communicate more clearly. I am not however a "spelling bully", if there is such a thing, and am not trying to make myself look clever. I think you should be slower to judge people.

Wow, I'm suprised the USA doesn't have alot more people who don't believe in evolution, but that could be that way because most people who don't believe in evolution see American Culture and the internet as evil; and would never partake in this poll. I love America, but you gotta remember we were the religious freaks of Europe...who never fit in very well. Australia is kinda like us, but instead of being overzealous consumers...they're convicts!

Should we take it as a compliment that the Neo-Cons call us liberal elite? I'm not terribly insulted being called either. Doesn't liberal mean marked by generosity, bountiful and broad-minded? And elite is "the choicest part, the best in class" and superior.

No, no, no, the Neocons consider themselves the true intellectual elites, reading Nietzche and Strauss and all that crap. They consider the liberal "elite", timidly old grandmothers afraid to embrace America's true destiny as ruler of the earth. It is the Nascar-Hick, pickup truck dudes that sign their name with an "X" and drink rubbing alcohol that consider us liberal elites.

Just calling it like I see it. Nobody else bothered to comment on the misspelling. You did. What conclusion should I draw?

OK, the results of this poll suggests that Americans have 1 in 6 people thinking that the theory of evolution is incorrect, and non-Americans have 1 in 31 people believing that the theory of evolution is incorrect.
