Now everyone knows I'm not in conspiracy theories*. Anyway, with the Tsunami in Asia, the mud slides in California, the cyclone in Europe, the earthquake in Japan all happening in such a close period of time.

What the hell is going on?

I was pouring through an Atlas the other day, and it listed the worst earthquakes on record in the past hundred years or so...sometime in the 70s, China had an earthquake that killed about 200,000 people. Italy had a huge one too...(actually, China had some big ones all through last century). So the Tsunami is big, but it isn't necessarily the biggest....nature can crush us like beer cans.

I had a housewarming party on the weekend...with just family...and my uncle started talking about some seminar he went to that explained how the tsunami had been caused by the U.S. My. God. I threw the hummus at him. I mean, can you blame me?

Wow? No kidding, dumbass! Who couldn't have thought of that? Did you really think that would impress anyone? Are you aware how pathetic it is to seek intellectual gratification from strangers on the internet? Get a life.

My intention was to hopefully find the scientifc reason, if any, for why these event occured so close to each other. But if you want to make it about the painfully obvious, ie weather cause weather then I should point out that sticking your hand in a fire may cause it to burn. That's sound advice for someone as stupid as yourself.

To all intents and purposes, the world ( i.e. civilization ) will end in 2012 when the Yellostone caldera erupts, devastating most of the central and eastern US and causing a drop in temperatures worldwide. This will initiate climate change on a massive scale. Most of the world, with perhaps a few enclaves of survivors, will die by starvation.

Tsunamis are caused by earthquakes, so there may be a connection there. Winds, (e.g. cyclone) are caused by temperature differences in the atmosphere as a result of the suns heat, so that can't be connected.

December 21 - End of the great cycle of the Maya calendar's Long Count, and thus the alleged end of our world (the end of the cycle is dated December 23 by some calculations). Also interpreted as a change in human consciousness ie. the 'end' of the world as we know it (but the start of a new one).

Basically, a caldera is a large underground resivoir of magma. There are a few of these worldwide, and one of the largest is the Yellowstone caldera. In recent years, the surface of the caldera has risen several inches, which is an indication of activity.

This is one of the bases upon which I based the 2012 date. The I Ching, the Myan calendar, and ( some say ) the Bible codes, all seem to point at 2012 as the year when there will be very massive changes at the least, or the end of the world as the worst.

EDIT: Also, some allege that Nostradamus predicts this as a year of massive change.

EDIT 2: The author of the Wickipedia article to which you refer may have been thinking of "The Celestine Phrophecy" as the basis for "a change in human consciousness." The Celestine Prophecy is a book by James Redfield which most view as a fictional account with very little basis in reality.

OMG noooo! It's finally the apocolypse, the end of days! The rapture is upon us! REPENT!! Fire and brimstone await!!!1

Actually, it's just the natural evolution of weather and climate on a still very geologically active planet, with a little bit of global warming thrown in for good (or bad) measure.

There could be a varitey of reasons for that, not the least of which is wishful thinking. The thought of the entire human race dying out is repugnant to most of us. :)

In my country (Chile) there were false rumours about tsunamis hitting southern shores; people fled in panik and authotities could not do anything against this sudden erupt of hysteria.

Even when the rumours where confirmed as false, people still refused to come down from the hills in which they were hiding.

I´d say people are scared: seeing catastrophes maximized in your TV screen over and over, may scare some good people. It is imperative that we wise up or... :headbang:
