How Bad Does Your Hometown Suck

I live in Oklahoma City, which I'm firmly convinced is the armpit of the world. Yes,I could move, but the rest of my family stubbornly insists on living here. So I stay here and bitch about it. I have some proof, so it's not just because I can't be pleased. (Which is true, but OKC still sucks) I invite you to find a worse place in an industrialized, democratic nation.

My little hometown for lo these past six years doesn't suck in any way, except perhaps for there being too many nosy people in it. Heh!

I really like that city comparison thing. It makes me love my real hometown, Topeka (AKA part of the moderate part of KS), compared to where I live now to go to school.

That webpage is cool but it doesn't have my hometown. I live in Minneapolis now which is fine and dandy. But the town in Iowa that I grew up in....ew.

My high school closed 2 years after I graduated because there werent enough kids. I graduated in 2001 with 15 other people. Yeah. Beat that.

My town contained the following:
2 bars
2 churches (one lutheran, one methodist)
1 post office
1 telemarketing company
1 welding shop
1 auto-glass repair shop
1 snowmobile repair shop
1 school (K-12)
1 traffic light (it flashed yellow at the 4-way stop to the 1 highway)
1 gas station (full-service)
1 farmers coop

Back in the day there was like a bowling alley, apartment building, movie theater, etc. They all burned down a long time ago. And I am not for certain if the snowmobile shop and auto-glass shop are still there. I try to avoid returning there as much as possible.

For the brits. Ever heard of a place called Chertsey? It is in the outskirts of the outskirts of west london, directly under the flightpath from Heathrow, Stuck in a triangle between the M3, the M4 and the M25. It does not have a direct train service into London, you have to change. The schools are so bad that my sister was sent to a comprehensive school 8 miles away, while I, being lucky enough to have passed my 11+ (I am showing my age here) was sent to a Grammar school 12 miles from home.
It does have a multitude of very bad Watneys pubs, or it did anyway. No cinema, no sports facilities, no social life whatsoever.
To get back from London by public transport you had to leave the centre by 21:00, to early to make London viable.

I vote for this as being the worst possible place in Britain for a middle class Brit to grow up.

(For the liberals, I know it was not moss side, or the gorbals, but I specified middle class, OK) :(

I graduated a year ago with 8 other people.

My town has

2 churches
1 old lava field
1 big farm
1 food store
1 tiny forrest
2 schools (upper and lower level)
1 abandond, very small port
1 old fort

But what I find funny is that I am going to school in Los Angelas CA in America next year and they have over 3 million people there. :D

My (high school years) hometown is the center of lily-white suburbia. And it sucks. It has nothing to do besides eat and watch movies.

There's no diversity besides a handful of Asians and Jews. I'm not joking.

The stifling uniform political beliefs of the town are annoying.

And our old mayor had repeated stupid-ass scandals.

And now it's going to suck even more because the main employer is leaving.

dont worry fair american friend, I am sure in the future your small town will have a Tim hortons, a canadian donut chain (has food as well) to support your donut/fast food cravings. I am not just a fan of timmys I am a share holder so feel free to google about TIM HORTONS and send them a email about getting a fine donut shop set up in YOUR area!!

I actually lived in a little town in eastern Oklahoma with 325 people.
2 gas stations
2 restaurants ( one was actually just a malt shop)
0 stop lights
5 churches
1 grocery store
1 school that included kindergarten to highschool
14 students in graduating class
But at least it was pretty- OKC is ugly and has an outrageous crime rate. Worse per capita than any other city I looked at, inc. NY and LA.

My hometown's this little, crappy, tiny town called Drumheller. I HATE that place. The people are ignorant, all the teenagers are stupid jocks (no, I'm not generalizing, the vast majority of the jocks in that town are thicker than planks) or painfully angsty druggies who think they're rebellious because they get high on weeknights... I am so glad I don't live there anymore. :headbang:

Oh....I also don't have a target or anything like that within 150 miles. Yeah....but yet, there are 2 super-walmarts within a 25 mile radius. And that is pretty much it. there is a pathetic excuse for a mall (jcpenney, buckle, maurices) about 25 miles away (across from one of the superwalmarts of course), and the towns with the superwalmarts also have grocery stores and some fastfood places.

This is my town...if you zoom out, you can find the towns nearby that actually had stuff.

Cleveland's alright. It has its ups and downs. Down's definitely being the god-forsaken school system that the devil of a superintendent has ruined and yet she gets paid around 300k a year!!!! She's the second highest paid school superintendent in the US and is running one of the worst school systems!!!! Someone please either kill her (preferably) or force her to take a pay cut!!!!

Fairbanks, Alaska

I found it amazing how many of my peers couldn't wait to leave once they graduated high school. This is funny 1) because I love the place and 2) because so many of them have come back within 2 years of leaving.

As for size, think 80,000 people in an area teh size of New Jersey. Granted the actual city is smaller than that, both in size and population, but that's the borough (think county). We have 1 university, 2 near-by military bases, and not a whole lot interesting besides that.
