Odd title but bah humbug. link here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4182093.stm
The summary is that in the UK we had a reality TV show on last week called Vote For Me - basically a political Pop (American) Idol. members of the public presented their political views as a manifesto and were voted out round by round by the viewership. the winner gets to stand as an indipendent MP in the upcoming UK elections.
The winner was one Rodney Hylton-Potts - a convicted fraudster, ex-soliciter who had spent time in jail. His views are draconian and undoubtedly right-wing libertarian (in my eyes).
Mr Hylton-Potts, a convicted fraudster and former solicitor, won on a manifesto that included halting immigration, the mandatory castration of paedophiles, the repeal of the Human Rights Act, the legalisation of all drugs and a massive prison-building scheme
Comments?
He claims he represents the "cabbie vote" - that is the general opinions of taxi drivers, which are often associated as a more general opinion of the public, although often more right-biased. I certainly dont believe that this man's manifesto is truly public opinion.
Also, i liked this (at the bottom of the link) and thought i'd do me own ;)
Halt to immigration? No. Perhaps a prerequisite of knowing, or learning the english language.
Castration of paedophiles? No. Ridiculous
Legalisation of all drugs? Decriminalisation and regulation
Repeal of Human Rights Act? No.
More prisons? No, offenders should do something to benefit the community
