Am I the only one? (religion)

Am I the only one who thinks that reckognition of sin should not be enough to merit redemption, and that a striving to avoid sin and to undo the harms of previous sin should be required, rather than recommended?

Dunno if you are the only one or not- who is redeeming the sinner and who is setting the requirements as to what constitutes redemption?

Obviously not:

"So they went out and preached that men should repent [ that they should change their minds for the better and heartily amend their ways, with abhorrence of their past sins ]." - Mark 6:12

Obviously yes.

"And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me." - John 12:32

But do not many Christians also preach that the only requirement for salvation is the reckognition of sin and the reckognition that Jesus died to absolve humanity of it's sins?

Christ saying, that when he enters heaven everyone will be drawn too him. As in his dying clears human sin. He does not say that when he enters heaven he will lift some people up to him he says everyone.

Hence in simplistic reasoning what we do does not matter, Christ draws all men unto him, all are saved no matters what actions we take here.

Catholic doctrine dictates that you must act well and properly repent, not just recognise Jesus. Therefore, you are not the only one.

Oh I can tell you what the word sin is ... just not what constitutes a sin :)

I'll step up and take a swipe at the pinata that is christianity.

I agree with Our Earth. I think it's pretty discracefull that so many preach that simply believing in "christ as the savior" grants you a 'get out of hell free' card. It's twisting the message.

Some stains shouldn't wash away so easily. There should be some accountability.

I take condolence by believing that there probably is, and a lot of hypocrites are gonna be suprised that their "accepting jesus" didn't set them up for the afterlife they hoped for.

I believe thats right..

Pc-bible not working :( .. but I'll give you an example.. About the person Christ died with on the cross. The robber. I doubt he had time on the cross to go down from the cross and do good works to redeem himself from all the bad things he has done.

Gal 2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain
