No, it sucked. And the movie Darkness sucked even more than that.

The Grudge started ok, and there were a couple of scary moments, but they weren't fully exploited, and the ending got confusing and stank.

More than a couple of instances of moving forward and backward on the story timeline made things a bit confusing as well. And no real reason to do so, from an artistic standpoint.

Also, bad story exposition.

I didn't bother, but if you're going to, get stoned/drunk first and tell me if it's any good, okay?

I went to see it on Halloween and came out thinking "Why'd I waste my money on that piece for shit". Mkay?

It depends on if you have a capacity to appreciate multi-cultural cinema.

I thoroughly enyoyed it, far more than the original version (Ju-On), but I have friends who aren't familiar with Japanese cinema, who really had no idea what they were watching... I think.

I believe, if you liked Ringu or The Ring - there is no reason why you SHOULDN'T like The Grudge.

It just isn't the standard hollywood recycled horror plot and motifs... so, I guess a lot of people don't know HOW to appreciate it.

If you like SMG: sure.
If you expect a horror movie to scare you: no, unless you fear gutteral sounds. Every "sudden scare" scene is preceded by 'ominous' music, so there is barely an element of surprise. And even what will happen is extremely predictable.
If you expect good special effects: no.
If you expect decent acting: Hrmpf. Not really.
If you expect a decent plot: maybe. It's not brilliant though.
