I agree it had drifted off topic, hence the new thread.

Saying that someone else is a human being does not mean that you have to give them exactly the same opportunities as you had. If this were the case you would have to enforce equality of outcome. To have different opportunities is part of the variety of life. This does not mean that the other should have better or worse opportunities, nor that there is any diference in the amount of privileges received. Surely it is possible to respect someone, without having to pool everything that you and he has and divide it in the middle.

All I am asking is for equality of respect. That someone should not be denied an opportunity that I have just because he is not me. This does not mean that he has to be provided with every opportunity I have, as he will have made other choices, other options in his life. This will open to him opportunities that I do not have, and rightly so. I made my choices, he made his. We have to live by the consequences of these.
