1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural?

Definitely not a choice. Not necessarily natural in the sense of genetic determination in all cases.

2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...? For example, pea-flicker, lesbo, lesbian, gay lady etc

I generally say lesbian or gay woman/gay lady.

I generally say homosexual man or gay man/gay guy.

4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain.

Homosexual should have equal rights under the law, in both cases.

5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?

Not solely because of their orientation, no.

5. If a potential employee was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from employing him or her (if discrimination was legal.)

Probably not. Though there may be certain jobs that would require straight people. Certain types of pornos, for example.

6. Are you for or against gay people being
a. Scout leaders?
b. Primary school teachers?
c. Army members?

I'm neither for nor against any of those.

Currently, upper-middle. I've been moving up.

My ethnic heritage is varied. Probably over 50% Anglo, and much smaller proportions of Scottish, Irish, French, Italian, Cherokee, etc.

1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural? Natural. I did not choose to be gay. Who would choose to be discriminated against?

Hm, 2 and 3 indicate a double standard.

4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain.
A: Marry yes, Adopt, f'k no. I see no reason to screw with the system that has been in use by nature for thousands of years.

5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?
A: Issues. If its a queer that will stop spending, I'd vote for his queer ass.

5. If a potential employee was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from employing him or her (if discrimination was legal.)
A: Firstly, discrimination is legal you dolt. I'll hire the guy from Dartmouth before the guy from Harvard before the guy from Oxford before the guy from some state school. I'll hire the straight guy before the gay guy.

6. Are you for (yea) or against (nay) gay people being
a. Scout leaders?
Definitely against. The BSA is a private organization and has their own damn right to tell the gays to f'off or to hop on board.

b. Primary school teachers?
Neither for or Against. So long as the teacher is not a pedophile I don't care.

Army members?
Oh hell No. In fact being gay is fine according to the army, so long as you don't participate in any homosexual behavior. This isn't Sparta after all,

7. Do gay issues receive too much, too little, just enough media attention and why?
A: Far to god damn much. For the tiny amount of the population they make up they receive thousands of times more media attention than justified. Note: Hot lesbians making out can never receive too much attention and is thus under-represented

1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural?--I'd say that it's on a case-by-case basis, some probably are, some probably aren't.
2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...? For example, pea-flicker, lesbo, lesbian, gay lady etc--dyke
3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...? For example, queer, poof, homo, gay man etc--queer
4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain. --No, but I'm completely fine with them having civil unions. As for the adoption, it is a definite NO, this mainly being for the childs well being, to avoid bullying at school, and to the psychological importance of having a father-figure and a mother-figure.
5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?--depends on their policies
5. If a potential employee was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from employing him or her (if discrimination was legal.)--Depends on their merits
6. Are you for or against gay people being
a. Scout leaders?---as the BSA is a private organization, they have the right to choose who can be a scout leader and who cannot. As such, since their choice is no, then I'm going to support it.
b. Primary school teachers?--Sure, just follow a don't ask, don't tell policy
c. Army members?--Sure, just follow a don't ask don't tell policy
7. Do gay issues recieve too much, too little, just enough media attention and why?--They do, but the reason I think they receive too much attention is because I really don't care about it, I find it boring and mentally unstimulating.

1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural? Natural.

2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...? For example, pea-flicker, lesbo, lesbian, gay lady etc. chick, girl, person, lady...If someone were trying to hook her up with a man, then I'd call her a lesbian, yes.

3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...? For example, queer, poof, homo, gay man etc. See above, but replace feminine words with masculine.

4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain. Actually, I don't think that marriage should be something that the state has anything to do with at all, so theoretically this is a non-issue for me. However, the chances of legally-binding marriage being abolished anytime soon is fairly thin, so yes, I do feel that gay couples should have the right to marry. Marriage, in society, is viewed as the next step in the cycle of love, a validation of one's feelings for one's lover; we are constantly taught that marriage is to be strived for. I haven't seen any reasonable reasons as to why gays shouldn't be allowed to marry.

As for adoption, yes. There have been studies showing that children raised by gay parents have turned out perfectly normal, and having been friends with a few such children myself, I can say that those studies are right, on their accounts at least.

5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her? No.

6. Are you for or against gay people being

7. Do gay issues recieve too much, too little, just enough media attention and why? The San Francisco thing seemed enough, but I think that's the only time I've seen anything 'gay' on the news, other than the occasional spat over gay marriage. But then, I haven't read the paper in a couple of months...

Lesbian/gay woman

3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...? For example, queer, poof, homo, gay man etc
Gay man/gay guy

4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain.
Yes to marriage, because why should society deny gay couples the rights afforded to heterosexual couples? Yes to adoption, because this will hopefully make gay marriage/gay adoption/gay people in general more accepted by society, and also there are too many kids out there who desperately need a good home, and if a gay couple can provide one then why the hell not?

5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?

7. Do gay issues recieve too much, too little, just enough media attention and why?
I'm not sure on this one. Stuff like the gay marriage issue has received too much. I'm not saying this because I think that it's not important enough to have warranted such exposure. I'm saying this because certain people running for certain presidencies have used the issue to their own ends, and exploited the feelings of many people. On the other hand, many gay issues need to come right out and be fought for until gay people are given the same rights at heterosexual people.

1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural? natural, although I think some people who say they are gay really aren't.
2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...? For example, pea-flicker, lesbo, lesbian, gay lady etc?
lesbian or female homosexual.
3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...? For example, queer, poof, homo, gay man etc? gay guy, gay man or male homosexual.
4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain. I think they should be allowed to marry. I'm not so sure I believe in adoption for ANYONE. People should raise their own kids. The real justifications for adoption are actually quite rare now. It's gotten harders since unmarried fathers were given veto power anyway.
People who for various reasons can't have kids together ought to accept that fact and stop fighting it so much so expensively.
5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?
If they were my party's candidate I'd vote for them, as long as they were qualified for the job.
5. If a potential employee was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from employing him or her (if discrimination was legal.)
I'd hire them if they knew how to do the work and got on with me.

b. Primary school teachers? see above.
c. Army members? If anyone is stupid enough to accept that deal, more power to th em! Among the primates it's the gay troop members who defend the troop. Some very militarily talented people have been gay.

1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural?
If by natural you mean genetically predetermined, then I'd go with choice. I think it can be influenced by genes, but is then also influenced by environment as a person's life progresses. Is it something to be switched on and off like a choice? No.

2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...? For example, pea-flicker, lesbo, lesbian, gay lady etc
lesbian..... and that you'd be weird for asking such a question in SF. :p

3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...? For example, queer, poof, homo, gay man etc
he was gay. not "a" anything. unless a gay man, although gay already implies he's male...

4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain.
YES. Two people love each other, they can marry. They vow to live together and support each other = marriage. As to children, gay couples are quite loving parents and able to support children. I've watched children growing up with gay parents and they are quite well adjusted and prepared for their life.

5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?
hehe... I might be encouraged to vote for them

5. If a potential employee was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from employing him or her (if discrimination was legal.)

6. Are you for or against gay people being
a. Scout leaders? NO
b. Primary school teachers? hahahaha NO
c. Army members? NO

7. Do gay issues recieve too much, too little, just enough media attention and why?
I think there might be too much focus on the negative views and stereotypes of gay people. Quite frankly, I'm horrified that 11 (?) states banned gay marriages outright by fairly large majorities. But then there are few stories spread about how gay parents are wonderful parents or how gay couples are just like every heterosexual couple in how they operate.

2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...? 4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain. Absolutely - I believe any 2 single, consenting adults should be allowed to marry and have the rights/benefits (and responsibilities) that go along with marriage.

Yes. Adoption is a way that our culture has for placing children in need of loving care in contact with adults who want to provide it.

Too much. Gay people are people. To categorise them is to discriminate, either against them or for them. Being gay is simply a way of life that is concerned with the individuals personal and private relationships. Mothing more than this. There is no issue here, unless you are part of a group that wants to dictate how each individula should handle their personal and private relationships (e.g. fundamentalist religious groups)

You missed the point. His whole stance on the homosexual issue is that they're diseased and should be locked up/chemically castrated (hard to castrate a woman, but whatever). Then he says he's Episcopalian and claims it to be the only proper religion for an American.

The Episcopalians appointed Bishop Gene Robinson, as you may or may not recall, who is openly gay. One of his church's own leaders and he wants to lock up/chemically castrate him.

It just makes no sense. It's like a hard-core Catholic saying the Pope should be tortured and shot.

a. Scout leaders? For, actually neither, I do not careless if he/she is gay
b. Primary school teachers? Same as Above
c. Army members? Same as above

1. Natural
2. Lesbian or homosexual woman (or womyn, if she preferred)
3. Gay or homosexual man
4. The right to marry? - Yes. The right to adopt - if they met the same criteria applied to hetero couples (ie relationship and financial stability, good support, resources and homelife, etc)
5. No. A person's sexuality has no bearing whatsoever on their ability to perform a job and is nobody else's business.
5. No. See the other number 5 ;)
6. Are you for or against gay people being
a. Neither for or against
b. Neither for or against
c. Neither for or against
7. Too much. As I said before it's nobody's business who people have sex with as long as everyone is a consenting adult. Discrimination against gay people is illegal here and there are more pressing concerns in my world than someone's sexuality unless it is affecting my family directly. "Speaking as a gay person......" is a sentence starter that should have died a long time ago. Too many people allow themselves to be defined pretty much exclusively by their sexuality, which I consider to be very self-limiting of them.

No religion - it causes to much hostility. Spirituality is personal, religion has been corporatised.
According to that test so many people have posted in their sigs ;) I'm more lefty than the dalai lama :) . But some of my friends accuse me of being very harsh/right wing on some things (like paedophiles should be shot, there is no redemption for them. I am very serious about this) but generally I am fairly lefty libertarian, I think.

That his chosen religion is not attuned to his explicit beliefs, does not mean that he should abandon the religion, nor even that he should abandon his beliefs. He has every right to be inconsistant if he wants to be. Nearly all of us are in our belief structures.

It is most definitely legal in the UK. As I noted, when someone applies for a job the boy from Oxford or the London School of Economics is discriminated in favor of the guy who can't read. That’s discrimination.

Oh for equality of outcome, who cares about equality of opportunity. Let us all become card carrying true communists and distribute everything equally, regardless of ability or propensity, or even desire. No, I don't want 0.12% of a cellular phone. Tough luck buddy, you are getting one anyway, otherwise we would be discriminating against you. :p

1. None of the above. Like most parts of a persons personality, it is a mix of n ature and nurture (a genetic predisposition combined with environmental factors in your upbringing).
2. Lesbian or Homosexual
3. Gay person or Homosexual
4. Yes. Although, I personally consider a homosexual lifestyle to be sinful, I accept that others have different religions and/or points of view and shouldnt have to comform to mine. Therefore, they should be allowed the right to marry and/or adopt.
5. Not because he is gay or bisexual. But most gays and bisexuals who are public about it and run for office run on platforms that I dont agree with, and I probably wouldnt vote for them for that reason. Just like I have nothing against Republicans but wouldnt vote for most of them because most of them run on platforms I dont agree with.
5. No. What difference would their sexuality make?
6. I dont think it should be an issue in any of those cases

1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural?
Both. Persons differ.

2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...? For example, pea-flicker, lesbo, lesbian, gay lady etc
Female homosexual or Lesbian. Sometimes gay. Always human.

3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...? For example, queer, poof, homo, gay man etc
Homosexual or homo. Sometimes gay. Always human.

4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain.
Right to civic marriage - yes. That marriage is just saying you take responsibility for the others actions and allow the other to act on your behalf. Plus many tax and social benefits.
Right to religious marriage - depends on the religion. If it says no, then no.
Right to adopt: in principle yes. But if it is conclusively shown that being raised by homosexual parents is detrimental to the child due to factors other than social acceptance that would be a reason to deny them this benefit. Adoption agencies after all have an obligation to ensure the childs good future. But they are the ones who should decide this.

5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?
No - unless he or she uses it to masquerade inability to perform the job, or yells 'homophobe' every time someone disagrees with his/her views on grounds not related to his/her sexual preference.

5. If a potential employee was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from employing him or her (if discrimination was legal.)
No - unless he or she uses it to masquerade inability to perform the job, or yells 'homophobe' every time someone disagrees with his/her views on grounds not related to his/her sexual preference.

6. Are you for or against gay people being
a. Scout leaders?
Indifferent. Pedophilia would be a problem, but that would also be a problem if the person was heterosexual.
b. Primary school teachers?
Indifferent. Pedophilia would be a problem, but that would also be a problem if the person was heterosexual.
c. Army members?
For, as long as they respect the sensitivities of other soldiers and respect the rules on relationships the army has. Just like hetereosexuals with soldiers of the opposite sex.

7. Do gay issues recieve too much, too little, just enough media attention and why?
They get the wrong sort. The perfectly functional homosexual family gets no attention - everything is always heated debates and excesses.

1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural? Natural. Not only are there homosexual humans, there are homosexual animals as well as predominantly heterosexual animals that indulge in homsexual type play.
2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...? For example, pea-flicker, lesbo, lesbian, gay lady etc A lady who happened to be a lesbian.
3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...? For example, queer, poof, homo, gay man etc A man who happened to be a homosexual.
4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain. Absolutely - homosexual people should have the same rights as anyone else.
5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her? No. My criteria would be to vote for the best party and person, according to their policies, not a politician's personal life (unless they were criminals).
5. If a potential employee was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from employing him or her (if discrimination was legal.) Absolutely not.
6. Are you for or against gay people being

7. Do gay issues recieve too much, too little, just enough media attention and why? Too much. All this nattering about some so-called 'gay agenda' is such crap. A gay couple getting married, divorced, or adopting, or a gay person getting a job shouldn't be news.

Are you under or over 40? I'm 34.

1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural?
Natural. Why? Because, with the stigma against being homosexual, I don't think anyone would choose to suffer like that.

2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...? For example, pea-flicker, lesbo, lesbian, gay lady etc
I use the term lesbian.

3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...? For example, queer, poof, homo, gay man etc
I use the term gay.

4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain.
Sure, why not? If two people fall in love who gives a damn. If they love children, sure, they should be able to adopt (or if female, there's always AI). I know plenty of terrible heterosexual parents. The gay people I know are wonderful and would make excellent parents.

5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?
I would probably be more likely to vote for that person, mainly because of the prejudice that they would have had to endure through their lives. I think it would make them more likely to be sympathetic to the lives of the masses.

5. If a potential employee was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from employing him or her (if discrimination was legal.)
Heck no.
6. Are you for or against gay people being
a. Scout leaders?
I see nothing wrong with that.
b. Primary school teachers?
Again, no problems.
c. Army members?
I wouldn't care, but I think it would make their lives difficult. I feel the choice should be up to the person however.

7. Do gay issues recieve too much, too little, just enough media attention and why?
I don't pay a whole lot of attention to the media, frankly. I do recall hearing too much about gay marriage and Bush and all that, and I thought the whole thing absolutely ridiculous. So I guess there is too much media attention, but that is true for every issue.

Are you under or over 40?
Under.

What is your social class?
I guess lower-middle class. Three-person family bringing home about $30 to $35 grand in the midwest. Maybe that's middle class around here, actually.

Do you have a religion - if so could you disclose it?
I call myself a laid-back Christian.

Are you a liberal, conservative or couldn't you care less?
The definitions of these tend to blur, so I can't really say. I would guess that I would be considered a liberal, since I am very anti-big government and I couldn't care less what other people do as long as they're not hurting each other.

What is your ethnicity - e.g. White English, or Indian, Chinese etc...
White. A mix of German and Hungarian and even an ancestor from Transylvania (no joke) on my dad's side, on my mom's side I'm Dutch, French, Irish and I think a bit of Italian somewhere in there.

This was fun and interesting--hope it helps you out.

Absolutely a yes. There's no reason to forbid homosexuals from marrying those they love. As for adoption-studies show that children raised by homosexuals are normal in every way. And, as you might expect, more tolerant than many others.

1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural? Natural
2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...? For example, pea-flicker, lesbo, lesbian, gay lady etc if we're talking about sexual orientation, homosexual. if we're just talking about her as a person, depending on her age and how close a friend she is, Clare/chick/girl/lady/woman/ma'am
3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...? Again, depends on context. See 2. He's a homosexual, but depending on context, Harry/guy/dude/man/sir
4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain. Government shouldn't be in the marriage business. Everyone should get goverment-issued civil unions, and then it's up to each religion's decision as marriage. Why shouldn't gay couples adopt? Given that they meet the same criteria as heterosexual couples do, I see nothing wrong with it, especially when you consider the enormous numbers of children in foster care/awaiting adoption.
5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her? I (will) vote based on issues. If this person were a Log Cabin Republican, chances are I wouldn't vote for him, because I'd disagree with his policies.
5. If a potential employee was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from employing him or her (if discrimination was legal.) Nope
6. Are you for or against gay people being
a. Scout leaders? Well, the BSA is a private organization, so it's up to them. But personally, I have no problem with it, as long as he doesn't make the scouts/their families feel uncomfortable. A scout could always seek out another troop if they have real issues, I suppose. And there are straight pedophiles too, after all.
b. Primary school teachers? Same thing as a, but if it's a public school, then the government should not discriminate - only hire people solely based on their qualifications.
c. Army members? Honestly I see no reason why a gay person would want to live in such a macho environment, but if they want to, sure. Remember when the armed forces had to dismiss a bunch of Arabic linguists because they were gay?
7. Do gay issues recieve too much, too little, just enough media attention and why? Too much negative media - it seems to go between the gay marriage debate and flamboyant gay pride stuff, which I have no problem with but creates a very bad image in some people's minds. If the media managed to portray homosexuals as ordinary people, not sexually promiscuous or overly radical, then we'd be a long way towards equality.

Are you under or over 40? under (17)
What is your social class? Working/poor - although that's more of an economic class. Everyone's in the "middle" social class in the US, it seems.
Do you have a religion - if so could you disclose it? raised Catholic, currently agnostic
Are you a liberal, conservative or couldn't you care less? progressive/liberal without the stupid connotations it's picked up
What is your ethnicity - e.g. White English, or Indian, Chinese etc... Caucasion mutt...some Czech, a lot of Italian, some Russian...call me white.

Who died and made you arch-bishop. I don't tell you about Islam do I? Or are you an expert on episcopalianism now?

Just because the episcopalian church makes a mistake by appointing a jenny wren as a bishop, doesn't mean I'm going to say the theology of the whole religion must be crap. Jesus, that would be like condemning the whole of Islam because some imam's supported 9/11. Or is that type of thinking logical now?

The episcopalian Church makes mistakes, becauase it is run by people, and people get things wrong sometimes. Nevertheless if you study its central tenets you will see that it is the only fit religion for an American. (Even you would like bits of it.)

1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural?

Honestly, I think it can go either way. And neither bothers me.

2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...?

I would call her "gay" or a "lesbian," at least until I discover what she prefers -- or until she tells me not to talk about it so much in the first place.

3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...?

I would call him "gay" until I discover what he prefers, or until he tells me not to talk about it so much in the first place.

4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain.

Yes. I see nothing to explain: a couple is a couple and they have the right to have their vow to one another recognized. Any reasonably responsible individual or couple should have the right to raise children -- and I see nothing about being gay that makes a person inherently irresponsible.

5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?

No. Actually, I would probably be tempted to vote for her/him even if I were somewhat displeased with her/his platform. There are limits to how far I will take this, but I see value in substantively counteracting anti-gay bigotry by leaning slightly more in a gay person's favor than I would ordinarily.

5. If a potential employee was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from employing him or her (if discrimination was legal.)

Not at all!!

6. Are you for or against gay people being
a. Scout leaders?
For.
b. Primary school teachers?
For.
c. Army members?
For.

7. Do gay issues recieve too much, too little, just enough media attention and why?

This is a difficult question in that I think gay issues receive the wrong kind of media attention. But the explanation is just far too long for a questionnaire.

Are you under or over 40?

Under. But that's a huge range in which to divide people. How do you justify it? (I know we see data all the time that says "people under 40" or "people over 40." But researchers summarize this after collecting data. The rule of good research is, "Never lose data until you absolutely have to."

What is your social class?

What the hell does that mean? The definitions of social class are so complex that this question doesn't even make any sense. Am I "lower class" because of how little money I make? Most sociologists would say no, because I am a graduate student -- something that just doesn't fit into that class. So what am I? I don't know. You need better questions.

Do you have a religion - if so could you disclose it?

I am a dogmatic atheist.

Are you a liberal, conservative or couldn't you care less?

I identify loosely with what is loosely termed "the Left."

What is your ethnicity - e.g. White English, or Indian, Chinese etc

I am "White English," as you put it.

That done, I just want to go on the record as saying that this is a horribly unscientific and biased questionnaire. It is quite obvious what you believe to be the "right" answers.

1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural?

Well... I think everyone is bi-sexual actually, just genetically predisposed. Most towards the opposite gender some towards the same gender. But I wouldn't call it a CHOICE either.

2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...? For example, pea-flicker, lesbo, lesbian, gay lady etc

Lesbian, though some 'Clare's' I know call themselves dikes.

3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...? For example, queer, poof, homo, gay man etc

Gay.

4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain.

Yes, I think not allowing them to marry is like only allowing religious people to marry. As for adoption, sure. If they can't adopt then whats next, taking kids from single parents?

5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?

Of course not, sexual preference/history has nothing to do with ability to govern.

5. If a potential employee was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from employing him or her (if discrimination was legal.)

Of course not. Sexual preference/history has nothing to do with competency.

6. Are you for or against gay people being
a. Scout leaders?

Of course they can... Now pedophiles on the other hands, THAT's a bad idea for scout leader. Of course alot of religious idiots seem to think gay people are pedophiles. Actually lets not allow fundies to be scout leaders either. ;)

b. Primary school teachers?

For.

c. Army members?

For.

7. Do gay issues recieve too much, too little, just enough media attention and why?

In America? The right amount I guess. In Holland where I live gay people CAN marry. Because we are more civilised then the US. ;)

Are you under or over 40?

What is your social class?

Upper-middle.

1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural? jury's truely still out but I'll go with choice as the most likely answer. Studies exist which can be taken both ways although no one has yet , for example, been able to find a true "gay gene" despite regular reports in the media.
2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...? For example, pea-flicker, lesbo, lesbian, gay lady etcneither, per se, I don't accept that "attraction" is the definition of sexual orientation, I would call a woman who solely has sex with her own gender a lesbian or gay depending on the audience. Some audiences prefer to lump all homosexuals under the mantle "gay" while some are rather strident about using lesbian to describe female homosexuals. In a clinical usage where sepcifity is demanded I use the term "female homosexuals"
3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...? For example, queer, poof, homo, gay man etcsee precious about defing in terms of attraction. I have no problem using gay or gay man to describe homosexual male, although to certain people I woud use the word "homo" or use "queer" or "poofy" to describe one (as a note I would probably not use those terms to heterosexual people, but among homosexual males certainly if it fit). It really depends on the audience
4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain. absolutely, but with a strong caveat. I do not accept that rights flow from the government and that having the government create theses "rights" is just plain wrong.
5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?depends. I've known a few closeted homosexual politicians and usually the fact that they are closeted deters me - as well as this one politician I knew who liked his partners "young and scruffy", which stretches acceptable sexual behavior to the limit. An openly homosexual politician, like Barney Frank in the US, no problem (as regards to his homosexuality)- closeted politicians, problems.
5. If a potential employee was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from employing him or her (if discrimination was legal.)Again, depends on the circumstances. Closeted homosexuals are always a problem, they are susceptable to stresses and pressures people with open sexualities are not vulnerable to. For the most part sexual orientation is not a factor in deciding to hire or not hire someone, but in certain cases it is a disqualifier. As a counter example, though, I would be reluctant to hire a heterosexual male as a male stripper. Again, there are cases where sexual orientation would be a factor and hiring decisions should be a factor in those cases.

Umm....animals can be gay.....

It is most definitely legal in the UK. As I noted, when someone applies for a job the boy from Oxford or the London School of Economics is discriminated in favor of the guy who can't read. That’s discrimination.

Thats often not the case....and discrimination is certainly not legal...

1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural?
Natural. No one would choose to be something that gets treated like shit so often.
2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...? For example, pea-flicker, lesbo, lesbian, gay lady etc
Lesbian
3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...? For example, queer, poof, homo, gay man etc
Gay
4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain.
Sure. A loving home is a loving home and I'm all for people being treated equally. If a kid could find one of those to grow up in I'd envy them.
5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?

7. Do gay issues recieve too much, too little, just enough media attention and why? The marriage thing gets plenty of air time and they make compassionate pro-gay miniseries (Angels in America for example) and other TV/movies with gay characters in growing frequency. I would say the issues are getting the air time they deserve.

4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain. Right to marry absolutely, it is natural. Right to adopt? I'm not sure, it depends very much on the situation.
5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her? That wouldn't be a major problem, only if the gay issues were more prominent than more important ones in his/her politics.

Gay man

4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain.
Yes to both. So long as they are both consenting adults, I fail to see why they should be discriminated against when it comes to marriage. As for adoption, the studies I have seen have shown there to be no detrimental effect from having homosexual 'parents', and if they are fit to raise children, I would much rather have them take care of abandoned, etc. children than orphanages or the state

5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?

7. Do gay issues recieve too much, too little, just enough media attention and why?

How can anybody in his or her right mind possibly support gay men being scout leaders?

I'm an Eagle Scout, and I'm glad my scoutmasters have all been heterosexual, and had many other admirable qualities as well.

Would you want you daughter sleeping in a tent with, getting dressed with, or taking a shower with, a hetero' man? I'm assuming not.
FreeSweden

It's what they do, not what they are.
If the scout leader cross the line he will get trouble. But you can't screen a person and discriminate against them because of their sexual preference. I think many homosexuals can be very good with kids without any sexual activity allowed of course.

Why portray or suspect homosexuals as possible child abusers? Most of them are just like straight people in general. They abide the law and want to make a good work.
And as somebody wrote it is a matter of the Scout association whom they employ but they can't dismiss a good person for the job on grounds that he is gay, that would suck.

"I'm an Eagle Scout, and I'm glad my scoutmasters have all been heterosexual"
Can I ask you this, are you 100% sure of that?

1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural?Elements of both, but I don't think that a homosexual man is likely to be happy with a heterosexual relationship. My boyfriend certainly wasn't even after helping to raise two beautiful children. He's still on good terms with his ex, but as soon as I'm out of college, I'm going to be helping him with his expenses because the alimony's killing him.

2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...? For example, pea-flicker, lesbo, lesbian, gay lady etcHomosexual or lesbian, depending upon whether or not her sex has already been specified.

3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...? For example, queer, poof, homo, gay man etcQueer, cock-smoker, faggot, fag, whatever. I use the same sort of terms to refer to myself.

4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain.I can't think of a reason we shouldn't. The same line of reasoning against gay marriage is the same sort of reasoning used against interracial marriage. It's the same bullshit in a different wrapper.

5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?I don't really care as long as he does a good job.

6. If a potential employee was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from employing him or her (if discrimination was legal.)Same.

7. Are you for or against gay people being
a. Scout leaders? Not at all. I don't know how, but somehow a large number of people think that we're general sexual deviants. Most other gay men I know are pretty boring and vanilla aside from the silly "queer culture."

b. Primary school teachers?Nope.

c. Army members?I read somewhere that, historically speaking, armies in which there was widespread homosexuality have always done better. I don't have a source on that, though, so there's really not much I can do to back that up.

8. Do gay issues recieve too much, too little, just enough media attention and why?On some days, I don't see what the big fuss is about, but some stories I hear make me glad that there are enough attentive eyes on the issue that the Jesus-crispies can't get away with flagrant abuses anymore.

9. Are you under or over 40?I'm twenty-one.

10. What is your social class?I'm a college student supported by my center-class parents and a pathetic weekend job, and I'm preparing to enter the field of optometry (which is pretty strange considering that my vision is a remarkably good 20/12). Take a guess[/quote]

If you're writing a paper or something on this, please feel free to fix my spelling, as it is almost one in the morning here, and there's no spell-check in this program.

1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural?
-I think that there are many people who are so afraid of the opposite sex that they feel they are homosexual. I also think there are those who are simply curious. And as for the God thought: God gave us many emotions and trials that we may fully experience life. Might this not have something to do with that? Besides, can you define "natural?" Is it natural for man to want to kill other man? But we do. Is it natural for a woman to want to poof up her hair? But we do. (Okay, not me, but some.) As far as I can see, this is a Nature/Nurture option. Have you ever found any identical twins, seperated at birth (the only kind with the same nature, but different nurtures) where one has turned out Gay and one has not? That might help the case one way or the other. Has it ever happened where they were both Homosexual? How often does a child that grows up to be homosexual has siblings who are also homosexual? Sorry to be raising more questions, I'm just wondering.

2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...? For example, pea-flicker, lesbo, lesbian, gay lady etc
-Lesbian, or homosexual if I'm refering to one or more of each.

3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...? For example, queer, poof, homo, gay man etc
-In context: "So, let's say this man is Gay." or Homosexual, if refering to more than one of them.

4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain.
-I think there are worse people out there to be raising kids. I also think that if they are planing on raising children, they need to let the kid know that their lifestyle may not be the lifestyle for everyone. (If it was, the population would die off). I don't agree with the lifestyle, but what if a group of people got together and decided that overweight people shouldn't be allowed to have children as the chance of passing heart disease onto the next generation would be greatly enhanced? I'm not going to tell others how to live their lives.

5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?
-Is he making trouble about it? (I'm sorry to be asking so many questions in response to yours, I just don't know how else to do this.)What I mean by that is; is this his big position? "Vote for me because I'm gay," or does he have reasonable standings on the issues I care about? Is this the only difference between him and someone exactly politically with the person he's running against? If I thought he was best, I wouldn't let it deter me.

5. If a potential employee was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from employing him or her (if discrimination was legal.)
-Would not be deterred. However, might have to make some arangements with the bathrooms, if he was openly gay, and it would bother other employees.

6. Are you for or against gay people being:
a. Scout leaders? --As long as he's a grown-up about it, and doesn't bring up the subject, and tells the kids to ask their parents any questions they have. I think the parents should be notified, because they have a right to know, but just as we don't ask single men to disclose their nocturnal habits, (ie. who exactly they are sleeping with, how they like it) we shouldn't expect gays to either.
b. Primary school teachers?-- Why? Are we worried about him passing on gay germs to our kids? They don't need to be learning these things from their primary teachers, so the subject shouldn't come up, and like the scouts, any questions about sex should be refered back to the child's parents.
c. Army members? --See note about the bathroom. Apply it to showers also.
7. Do gay issues recieve too much, too little, just enough media attention and why?--Too much. But you may notice that I'm pretty much a "live and let live" type, so I'm pretty tired of people trying to force others into their pre-conceived molds. That's why the first pilgrams came here, to get away from that attitude. Unfortunalty, the first thing they did when they got religious freedom was to impose their religious beilefs on others.

Are you under or over 40?
-Under, I'm 23.

What is your social class? --How's that? I make $40,000 a year, and live alone, so I guess I'm upper-middle class, but it costs a lot of money to live in Alaska. I have a bachelors degree if that matters.

Do you have a religion - if so could you disclose it?
--Yes, I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. (the Mormon's.) They are very anti-gay. And while, because of my religion, I will never become one, and I will die of shame if my child does, I, personally, don't impose my beilefs on others.

Are you a liberal, conservative or couldn't you care less?
--I'm what you call a liberal conservative. Which means I'm a conservative, but not as conservative as my grandfather who thinks Democrats, Gays, and the French are the root of all our problems.

What is your ethnicity - e.g. White English, or Indian, Chinese etc...
--I'm your basic white girl. I was raised in white mans' land, but am now living in an Eskimo village, with a group of Inupiats. (I think I spelled that wrong).

4.Yes, marriage is about making a commitment to the one you love, and homosexuals should have the right to celebrate there love in this way, just as straight people can. Adoption should be based on a couples ability to care for and love a child, and not condideration of whether they are gay or straight.

It's a result of enviroment.

2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...? For example, pea-flicker, lesbo, lesbian, gay lady etc
I'd call her Clare

3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...? For example, queer, poof, homo, gay man etc
Harry

4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain.
Yes, what's to explain?

5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?
Perhaps, but it wouldnt be because they were gay or bisexual.

5. If a potential employee was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from employing him or her (if discrimination was legal.)
Perhaps, but not due to their sexuality.

6. Are you for or against gay people being
a. Scout leaders?
I dont think their sexuality should matter, I'm not 'for' it, but against excluding people due to sexuality

b. Primary school teachers?

1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural?
Honest answer? I don't know. I presume it's natural in most cases, at least; I can't see why anyone would choose it, given the stigma.

Homosexual. I decry the twisting of the wonderfully expressive word 'queer' into an often-derogatory, innuendo-laden epithet!

4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain.
Yes. There are so many kids out there who need loving families and if a gay couple can provide that then they should be allowed. I support the right of any given church not to permit gay marriage within their ceremonies if it is against their religious law, but I see no reason for the government to forbid it, as it is basically just a way of discriminating against gay couples not to allow them to receive the same property, inheritance and benefit rights as straight people.

5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?
No...I vote on issues more than anything else.

5. If a potential employee was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from employing him or her (if discrimination was legal.)
No I don't see why - if they'll do the work that's what matters!

6. Are you for or against gay people being
a. Scout leaders? For - to my knowledge, gays are not more likely to be paedophiles than straight people.

b. Primary school teachers? For - see above.

c. Army members? Tougher one...I want to say 'for' because it shouldn't matter, but if a lot of other soldiers would object and it would stop the army from functioning...I don't know, really. I know very little about the army.

7. Do gay issues recieve too much, too little, just enough media attention and why?
I think it varies...some issues, like gay marriage and adoption, probably don't get enough good press. Hollywood gossip columnists, on the other hand, seem to me to be far to interested in labeling people as 'gay' or 'straight' or 'bi' or whatever - who cares??

1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural? Not 100% sure about this, but lean towards natural.

2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...? For example, pea-flicker, lesbo, lesbian, gay lady etc Woman

3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...? For example, queer, poof, homo, gay man etc Man

4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain. Yes to both. Gay people have been rasing their own children by blood for decades, if not longer, and I have never seen any proper evidence that it harms the child in any way (rabid Christian web sites don't count as evidence)

5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her? No, not at all, I would be much more concerned in their ability to do the job.

5. If a potential employee was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from employing him or her (if discrimination was legal.) As for the politician question

6. Are you for or against gay people being
a. Scout leaders? For

7. Do gay issues recieve too much, too little, just enough media attention and why? gay
4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain.
yes, definitely. The only real argument against it seems to be that it will "destroy the sanctity of marriage". They might as well be allowed, as it won't hurt anyone.
Oh yeah, adoption. That should be allowed. Again, the only real argument against adoption is that the child will "get confused", which I don't accept as a valid argument until evidence can be provided.
5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?
no, of course not

2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say she was a...? Lesbian
3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...? Gay
4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain. No, they should not marry, but given a civil union with exactly the same rights as married heterosexuals. That way we could circumvent the entire "marriage is holy" discussion, just by giving it another name. And of course they should be able to adopt, there is no conclusive evidence that having homosexual parents is detrimental to the childs development.

3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say he was a...? Homosexual.
4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to adopt - please explain. Homosexual couples should have the right to marry. People often forget simple things when argueing against this and the fact is that Homosexuals are people too - not abominations. If you dissect one, they are the same as everyone else on the inside. Their appearance on the outside looks the same as everyone else. The Constitution of the USA (Not sure about other nations) goes so far to say that all men are created equal. Therefore, not allowing them to marry impedes on this equality, and banning them from marrying is unconstitutional. It's all simple logic, comrades.

1. Is being gay a choice or is it natural?

Natural, as others have said, I don't see why people would choose to be discriminated against.

2. Let's assume that Clare is solely attracted to her own gender, you'd say
she was a...? For example, pea-flicker, lesbo, lesbian, gay lady etc

lesbian/person

3. Let's assume that Harry is solely attracted to his own gender, you'd say
he was a...? For example, queer, poof, homo, gay man etc
homosexual male/person

4. Do you think gay couples should have the right to marry and the right to
adopt - please explain.

If they want. I see no reason to deprive ordinary people of their rights, as it currently stands in most nations. As for adoption, aside from narrow minded bullying, I can't think of a reason why not.

5. If a politician was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from voting for him or her?

why should that affect anything? If he/she was attracted to toasters wouldn't bother me as long as they could perform the duty aof a politician effectively.

5b. If a potential employee was gay or bisexual, would you be deterred from employing him or her (if discrimination was legal.)

again. Why should that bother me? I probably wouldn't even ask. It's not any of my business, after all.

6. Are you for or against gay people being
a. Scout leaders?

For.

b. Primary school teachers?

For.

c. Army members?

For.

7. Do gay issues recieve too much, too little, just enough media attention
and why?

I'm split in this decision. As far as equalising their rights, no, there hasn't been enough attention. As far as idle gossip, far, far too much. If it stopped being a major talking point, as far as that goes, it'd go a long way into reducing the percieved stigma and prejudice.

Are you under or over 40?

under 40.

What is your social class?

eh.... technically lower, actually middle, and I'm a student.

Do you have a religion - if so could you disclose it?

Are you a liberal, conservative or couldn't you care less?

eh.... I really couldn't say. Conservative on some, liberal on others. It's virtually 50/50. Most people would probably describe me as liberal, if they were to have a discussion with me.

What is your ethnicity - e.g. White English, or Indian, Chinese etc...
