The other day I went to the PBC world rankings and, assuming Australia are still #1 and #1 in both forms at the end of march, based on the current world rankings (the rankings at the end of march will decide the world teams) these are the teams that will take on Oz later in the year (the selectors obviously might have slightly different orders and things, but this gives some indication)

Ozzie here! :)

Good teams, but then all "world teams" are always controversial about who misses out.

Yeah which is why they've decided to stick to doing it by the rankings, i think. If you add a twelth man and other players to make up a squad the team starts changing again.

I don't think Akhtar should be there. He certainly has talent, but not the application to put it to full use. The current tour in Aus has shown that, he bowls well on the first day of the first innings & falls away quickly from there.

Well he's ranked as the 4th best bowler in the world, so unless he falls down a few places by the end of march, he'll be in the team.

I spose so, going on the rankings. I reckon Chris Cairns should be in the world team.

Yeah, he was pretty impressive at the Tsunami match. A pity he's retired from the test team.

Yeah, he was pretty impressive at the Tsunami match. A pity he's retired from the test team.

Chris Cairns played 62 test matches, joined the exclusive 3000-run/200 wicket club, and hit more test 6's than anybody ever. He also missed another 60 tests to injury. Eventually he made the decision to prolong his one day career rather than risk an injury that would put him out for good. Its amazing to think what he might have achieved if he had been fitter over the past decade.

Yeah, he's a class player. Probably lucky for us the injuries held him back.

New Zealand has some good talent around, but injuries have often hurt them.

We Aussies need SOMEONE to give us a proper challenge in the 5 day game, along with the 20 over game. I was there for Australia A against Pakistan in Adelaide.

Cairns could almost single handedly win a twenty20 match

Cairns versus Symonds when both are in top form. That would be fun to watch, if you like bowlers being slugged everywhere. However, it raises the question of who's at the other end? Have Gilchrist with Symonds, and there'll be plenty of runs to be made; but who to put with Cairns?

I'd be more worried about the 50 over game right now. Maybe this World XI are the ones to give us a fight?

If the Aussies lose in their NZ tour does that make NZ no.1?

I heard this bandied about before the Tsunami shortened Sri Lankan visit. Which NZ won kind of by default, but cannot work out if it still applies.

Sure it was a test, but:

200s where recorded the fastest Test Centuries in Balls received are:
153 balls NJ Astle New Zealand v England at Christchurch
211 balls HH Gibbs South Africa v Pakistan at Cape Town
212 balls AC Gilchrist Australia v South Africa at Johannesburg
220 balls IT Botham England v India at The Oval
222 balls V Sehwag India v Pakistan at Multan

Astle can wave a bat...

Mmm, cricket, the best excuse for mass lethargy there ever will be! :D
Unfortunately this summer is looking like Australia will walk all over everybody, as usual. I mean, I don't have anything against them, I just want to see a good match!

Well I think the only team who will give the Aussies a game are us.

We have a good team and lady luck is looking favourably on us....

Ashes back to Lords? Unlikely but I don't think we will be as badly beaten as we have been....

Yes, you poms can probably give us Aussies a good game. Your team is in form, and have had a good run with injuries. We shall see what happens, though. Good to see Hoggard is helping Harmison out. One good bowler by himself doesn't cut it. We showed that to Pakistan with Shoaib Akhtar.
Its too far away
