Marzipan?

I´m just wondering, because I read some very straneg article. It claims that Marzipan ( Marzipan@Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marzipan) ) is virtually unknow in most parts of the world, safe for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Well, you can buy this wonderful stuff here all over the place, but I was suprised to read that - e.g. - in the US you can only get it in some deli stores.

This can´t be true, right? I mean, such great delicious stuff like marzipan has to be popular basically everywhere where people like sweet stuff and candy, right?

Okay, here´s the poll.

Do you know marzipan?

i think i've had it once or twice.

and the article explains why my store was selling little marzipan pigs...

In some countries marzipan shaped into small figures of animals, such as pigs, is a traditional treat for New Year's Day.

i haven't noticed too much of it being sold all the time, but i don't really look for it...

You can get everywhere I have ever lived(Michigan,Tennesse,Arizona), so I would say the article you read is wrong.

I have to admit, when I was living in Ohio I don't know that I had heard of it until we got to high school and had exchange students. I'm betting you can find it if you look for it, though, it's just not as widely known or used (in part because there are so many different cultures' foods all mixing together). Here in the UK there's loads of it though!

It is difficult to get here, and ridiculously expensive. More than beluga caviar. I think it only exists because we have German immigrants. I just have to persuade someone to start making Stollen, and then I will die fat and happy.

Alas, I have never found the tasty Marzipan in the US, so when I was in Europe this summer I bought a goodly amount. Needless to say, it's all gone...

I think it looks great, but due to the almond ingrediants, I am allergic to it....

I love marzipan. Sometimes I make it myself but you can buy the fruit shaped ones or plain tubes in lots of supermarkets. The quality seems to be better in candy shops though. Sometimes they have chocolate covered ones which are wonderful.

Marzipan....is the nicest food ever made. Ever, ever, ever. I feckin' loves it. I eat it by the block, generally around half a pound at a time. So, yes, I know it.

Marizpan is god's gift to mankind.

I could spend my whole life admiring little marzipan fruits and eat nothing but them and be happy forever.

You can buy marzipan here in Phoenix, AZ at the Cost Plus World Market stores and I'm sure elsewhere.

I've also had good marzipan in San Francisco and London.

They sell it in gas stations and dollar stores and my corner grocery store here in Detroit.
Cheap--$.99 four three or four ounces.(a bag of little half ounce wedges)
