I was just curious on what most people think of scientology. I would also like to know more about it.

At the risk of being sued by the church of scientology (they sue all their critics to silence any criticism) I'll give my opinion. It's a load of crap. The "engrams" they claim to find engraved on people's psyche have no basis in reality. It's a big scam to get money and power. Only idiots fall for it.

This is what I've heard so far. From the basic idea, this seems to be the only conclusion I can draw as well.

A religion begun by an author who made a bet that he could start a religion. Go figure.

I wonder if he's seen Battlestar Galactica. From what I've heard of the movie, it's the best evidence against Scientology having any merit. LOL

Did you mean Battlefield Earth? I didn't know there was a Battlestar Galactica movie. I thought it was just a TV series.

Anybody here ever see Repo Man? They make fun of the scientology book "dianetics". There's a book in the movie called "diarrhetics" or something. One of the federal agents is into it.

Unfortunately, one can not be told what the monkey doodles are. You have see them for yourself.

To Fass: Interesting, I didn't know there was an organized resitance against it.

Ever see the parking garage episode of Seinfeld. George pisses of a woman by making fun of L. Ron Hubbard.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Sorry - got it mixed up. I never saw the movie myself, but Battlefield Earth was the book on which Scientology is based.

I thought it was based on dianetics and the Xenu story?

Battlestar Galactic was based on the Mormon faith.

Scientology is totaly BS. Their 'bible' is basicaly bad Sci-Fi.
I suggest you look up "OT III" on Wikipedia, at the risk of getting pnuemonia if you arent properly brainwa-...prepared.
Basicaly, according to it, some evil alien overlord with a funny name crammed a bunch of people into volcanos on Earth and dropped nukes on them, resulting in bajillions of evil little soul thingies that are the cause of all problems.

Yes, this means that Scientologists reject the germ 'theory', the little thingies moving about in your blood are actualy the spirits of aliens from 82 billion years ago.

Essentially, the author of Battlefield Earth bet his buddy that he could start a religion. Then, he did.

Well that I know. But I don't see where battlefield eart comes in. I read it about twenty years ago, it just seemed like a lot of asshattery, I don't see where you could get a religion from it.

Yeah, the Scientologists seem to have some odd fear of being criticized, and like to sue the hell out of people who do so. Often with false charges. And enough financial might to make sure you don't possibly win.

People are trying to get that to stop, but it isn't working out too well, from what I've heard.

I thought that L. Ron Hubbard started Scientology with his literary works as the 'holy books' so that he didn't have to pay tax on the income he received through them...Which isn't such a bad idea.

Since a freind of mine has been telling me all about it, I think it's just incredibly stupid.
Like... more stupid then anything else.
But that's my opnion, and as long as no one tries to force theirs on me, I won't force mine on them.

But really, any "religion" centred around giving money to the church to gain enlightenment, doesn't sound like a good idea.

I tend to just find the whole thing hilarious. I generally think its a bad thing to make fun of others beliefs, but at the the risk of hypocrisy, I think I'll make scientology the exception. :D

It's the truth. The whole truth and nothing but the truth. So help me Ron Hubbard.

$cientology is a scam. It's been proven to be a fraud in a variety of countries and does not have "religion" status in Canada for one. Mostly because they were caught in the largest fraud in Canadian history. It's a scam.
