Moderation in moderation

Is it just me or do any of you think this forum is over moderated? It seems that the mods have no sense of humor and seem to think it's their job to shape the forum into a humorless debating ground on the subjects of religion and politics. What do you folks think?

sweet potatos should be cooked at a low temperature to maximize the sugar content

It's a poll for the people who post, not for the mods. I don't care if they see it. I just want to see what the regular folks think.

From what I have seen during my time here, which has not been long, the moderators seem to be a little bit overbearing. And somewhat random in their modding. I'm surprised this tread hasn't been locked yet. But it would be nice if all the people who think that all the mods should back off a little bit, at least in the general section, would post. Perhaps if enough people post, the mods will take the hint and back off.

well if it weren't for the army of tattle tails, whiners and suck ups it wouldn't be so bad. they go crying to moderation very five seconds or every time something sticks in their particular ideological craw. this forces the mods to take an extremely close look at threads they would otherwise have left alone, and almost every serious poster breaks a rule or two now and then, especially when the conversation gets heated.

I'm glad so many people appreciate my cooking tips. I also make a terrific pot roast with homemade gravy.

As long as you don't post goatse or threaten other users with bodily harm, there never seems to be a problem.

Shit, man, I cuss like a sailor and have never been edited for it or warned for it. I post stupid things and often make every effort to hijack threads to the subject of sandwiches and have never been warned or moderated for it.

It's not like I slip in under the radar either. I may even be on "the list" for all I know.

It's really not that difficult to not flame, not threaten, and not post porn.

have you been listening to NPR cuz i just heard that thing about sweet potatos there over the holidays. something about how the enzymes that break down the starch into sugar only work between 100 and 170ish degrees.

Because we always lock threads like this... oh, wait... we don't...

Alas, our mandate comes from Max Barry, not the posters on this forum.

Now, I could point out the relative newness of the complaining nations, and harp on about what it was like before Mods, but I'm sick of repeating myself.

not flaming is kinda hard(where's the love without ad hominem(sp?) attacks), as is not flamebaiting(for me at least), and of course not spamming or thread hijacking

So very untrue. I once told someone to take the stick out of their ass and have some fun, and got my nation deleted. My last forumban was for posting an off color remark and some jokes, none offensive, on a thread about feminism.

No, I missed that. Still, it's good advice.

Well ... this is my 3,400th post and I've never been banned or whatnot. Not once. Maybe it's in the delivery ... *shrug*

I think it's more about who you piss off. Some folks are so thin skinned they go crying to the mods everytime someone hurts their wittle feewings.

That is entirely possible. Thin skin abounds on the internet. *sagely nods*

How often does Max check on his Nation States site....just to see whats going on and what his current and potential readers (this site was developed for advertising his books) think about NS? I was just curious if he checks up to see how its going?

I wish I'd have thought about an ad technique like this *grumbles @ self*
