Let's pause today and remember the sacrifices made in the name of freedom and equality. Let us remember the stain of that horrible American apartheid called segregation and how it was washed clean by the blood of heroes. Heroes like Dr. Martin Luther King. Heroes like the freedom riders and the young men and women who came from the north to stand in solidarity with their black brothers and sisters. Who suffered beatings, attack dogs, tear gas and lynchings to win freedom and equality. Let us remember the high price paid for those two precious things so that we will never give them up cheaply.

Frankly, I think Rosa Parks had more guts than all of them put together. :)

He gave us a holiday, so he's alright in my book.

Sen. Byrd (D-W.Va) doesn't care for him though.

During WWII German POW's who weretraveling by train to camps inside the US in a southern state were allowed to eat in the restaurant at the train station while black service men in uniform were not. That is one very good example of how insane the Jim Crow laws were.

How can you SAY that?????? It's not much to refuse to give up your seat on a a bus... There were hundreds of people who did the same thing. She just happened to be old and a woman, which made her less prone to violence, so it took LESS courage for her to not stand.

Doctor Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. (wow that's a long name) Actually acted upon this and got more publicity, organized demonstrations, and really on the public level stood up the government. Now THAT is courage.

He brought national attention to the mistreatment of black people. He kept pushing for justice even though he received death threats, jail sentances and beatings. He remained nonviolent even when his opponents were willing to use any level of violence and intimidation to keep the satus quo. Finaly he gave his life for a just cause. It's more than you've done.

You are correct! He had to plagerize that speech because he was too busy slapping around some hookers, smoking dope, and meeting with his communist handlers!
