If you're gonna boycott Israel, do it properly!

Recently, some countries have decided that they are going to completely boycott Israel and it's goods, so they've stopped buying and using things that they think are the only Israel made things, but they seem to be missing a lot. So heres what I say, if you're gonna boycott Israel, don't forget:

Check your medication. Make sure you do not have any tablets, drops, lotions, etc. made by Abic or Teva. Sure, it might mean that you have a cold, and flu this winter, but it's a small price to pay, right?

Oh, and speaking of medicine. Be sure to boycott the following:
An Israeli company has developed a simple blood test that distinguishes between mild and and more severe cases of Multiple Sclerosis. So if you know anyone suffering from MS, tell them to ignore the Israeli patent, that may in fact more accurately diagnose their symptoms.

Oh and who can forget that an Israeli-made device helps restore use to paralyzed hands and helps electronically stimulate hand muscles, providing hope to millions of stroke victims and to victims of spinal injuries. If you wish to remove this hope and better life from these people, go ahead and boycott Israel.

Young children with breathing problems will soon be able to breathe better, thanks to an Israeli invention called the Child Hood. This innovation places a breathing mask with a much improved drug delivery system and will provide lots of relief for both child and mother. So please tell anxious mothers everywhere that they shouldn't use this device for your passionate cause.

Now, boycotts often affect research, so...

A researcher in Israel's Ben Gurion University has succeeded in creating human monoclonal antibodies which can actually neutralize the small pox virus without the dangerous side effects of the existing vaccine. But go ahead and boycott that, I mean it's an important cause, right?

In 2004, two Israeli's received the Nobel Prize for their discoveries that could lead to a method of DNA repair, control of proteins, and and immune defense systems. But who needs that right? Boycotting Israel is way more important, right?

The Movement Disorder Surgery program at Israel's Hadassah Medical Center have already successfully removed physical manifestations of Parkinson's Disease in a select group of patients with special deep brain stimulation techniques. But I'm sure your boycott is more important then that.

For woman who undergo hysterectomies each year for urine fibroids, the Israeli development of the ExAblate 2000 System offerers a non-invasive alternative to surgery.

Israel is also developing a nose drop that will provide for five years of flu vaccine.

This is just a few projects that you can help stop with your Israel boycott.

Moving away from medical research, let's look at some of the other stuff Israel has developed that you'll need to get rid of if you really plan to boycott Israel.

First you can get rid of that computer. Most Windows operating systems were developed by Microsoft-Israel, so you can just chuck that PC.

The Pentium NMX chip was developed by Pentium of Israel. Both the Pentium 4 and the Centrium were signed, developed, and produced entirely in Israel! The technology used in AOL Instant Messenger and ICQ were developed in 1996 by two Israeli wiz-kids, and both Microsoft and Cisco have built their only outside-US facilities in Israel.

So due to your boycott you now have bad health, and no computer, but wait there's more! You can also get rid of your cell phone!

Cell phone technology was developed by Motorola in Israel. Motorola in fact, has it's largest development center in Israel. A large majority of last years cell phone technology (including fancy-shmancy camera phones and the like) was developed by Israeli scientists.

Look around, are you feeling unsettled? Maybe you should be if you're going to boycott Israel. Part of your personal security rests within Israel's inventiveness. You probably need some of Israel's Netline Communication Technology with security expertise to help you fight against terror.

A joint, non-profit agreement between Israel and the state of Maryland for a five day Buissness Development and Planning period will allow Israeli companies to partner with Maryland to provide innovations for homeland security. Or would you rather have no homeland security?

And just as a side note, Israel has the highest ratio of university graduates to population in the world. Israel also produces more scientific papers per capital then any other countries in the world (109 per 10000). Israel has the largest number of startup companies then any other nation except the US and the highest concentration of high tech companies outside Silicon Valley. Israel is ranked second in the world for venture capital funds (also right behind the US) and Israel has the second largest number of publication of new books per capita. Oh, and what nation has the most chess masters in the world? Russia? Wrong, the most chess masters in the world are located in Tel-Aviv, in Israel.

Relative to population. Israel is the largest immigrant absorbing nation in the world. These immigrants (who are by the way NOT all Jewish) come in search of democracy, religious freedom or expression, economic opportunity, and quality of life. It's important to note that the largest Arabic free press in the world is in fact in Israel!

And believe it or not, Israel is the only country in the world that had a net gain in trees last year.
So go ahead and demoralize the State of Israel if you wish. You can continue with your silly boycott. But please consider the consequences and the truths. Think of the massive contribution Israel gives to the world and to YOU. With it's science, medicine, technology, communications, security.

So go ahead and boycott, if you still want to.

Israel is developing so much more.... They're developing a laser to get rid of bad breath, making smart bandages, an acne remover. Basically a lazer that blows them all up... and then cleans it up. :D

They are also helping to cure World hunger, through Genetic Engineering. If you boycott Israel. Africans will die, little progress will be made, and we will eventually revert back to the stone age, because of those people. :)

Arab nations have been trying to set up an international boycott of Israel for some time. They have even threatened to stop doing business with nations who do business with Israel. Isn't that against international law? If it is where's the UN in all of this? They're only around when someone is trying to condemn Israel.

I wonder what would happen, if Israel was chosen to be Securty Council... (what was the position named again?)

I hope they come out with that acne remover pretty soon. I know some people who'd really like it ;)

What i'd like to see is a site, that shows all the things they;re developing. Even better if it shows all the countries, and how expected arrival of said "item".

In the 70's (I think) all the Arab states delivered an ultimatum to the Japanese car firms, that they could either sell to Israel or to all of the Arab states. All of them, excepting one went with the Arab states. That one, was a very small company named... Subaru. In one year Subaru sold more cars in Israel than ALL the other Japanese firms did in all the arab states. Seeing this, the arab states lifted the ultimatum, if they hadn't all the companies would have gone to Israel. Smart move.

No offence, and I'm not advocating a boycott of Israel - just wanting to play devil's advocate for a second.

First, if you were to look at ANY western country they could come up with a list of a few current research breakthroughs. Does this mean that NO wester country should ever be boycotted no matter what? Impunity for all?

Now, I'm not a doctor - But from the high-tech specifics:
First you can get rid of that computer. Most Windows operating systems were developed by Microsoft-Israel, so you can just chuck that PC.

So, Microsoft couldn't exist without Israel? Interesting....

Especially given that Isreal can exist without Microsoft... (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2003/10/14/israel_slams_the_door/)

Exclusive In a bold assertion of independence, Israel has thrown the full weight of its antitrust legislation at Microsoft.

The Israeli Ministry of Commerce has suspended all governmental contracts with Microsoft, and indicated that the ban will last throughout 2004. The de facto suspension means no upgrades for the duration, at a time when Microsoft is looking to roll out its Office 2003 upgrade; and the Ministry is said to be examining OpenOffice as an alternative.

It's a consequence of a much-anticipated legal verdict: Israeli Antitrust Authority director general Dror Strum has finally acknowledged that Microsoft is a monopoly.

Register readers play no small part in this remarkable story. Apple users in and beyond Israel have long called for an alternative to the Microsoft monopoly that supports Hebrew.

You'd think that with all of those Israelis building the basics of Microsoft that ...errrr....Isreal wouldn't boycott Israel. Seems rather stupid really.

Really? That's funny. I guess that Cisco R&D building down the road here in Ottawa is just a figment of my imagination..... but it looks so real there sandwiched between the Alcatel campus and the RIM building... but hey - if you say so then it must be true....

So the options are Israel or nothing? Pssst - don't look now, but your ego is showing...

Quantity is not quality, as Walmart proves time and time again. However, thank's for the update next time I want to hire a Chess master.....

You're talking about Syneron, right? I did a little bit of work with them, once.

I love those guys, but they're nutcases. Their plan for all this stuff is "using crystal diode laser energy and kinetic manipulation for the destruction of sub-cutaneous cellulite." Meaning they're going to make a back massager which emits infrared light and most of the visible spectrum, and hope it does all that. It might deal with the Acne and give a pretty good massage, but they FDA's not gonna let the "Vela Smooth, Shaper." into the US (yes, the comma and periods are in the name.)
They also missed a conference call once, then called at 2AM their time (8PM ours), with what was either a very violent party or a riot going on in the background.

However, I also stamped page numbers onto an 18,000 page document by Teva (done manually, because it was $12/hour and I'm a previously poor college student) at this same job, and forwarded a few phone calls, and I have to say, they're very polite, professional, well-organized, and their English is a hell of a lot better than most US Pharmecuticals. If they were the size of, say, Johnson and Johnson, and still as professional, efficient, and uncorrupt as they are now, Cancer and AIDS would be unheard of inside the decade.

I don't see how it is against international law. If you don't want to buy from place A, go ahead. Unless they sign an internationnal treaty to the contrary, any country can use protectionist methods like baycott to their heart's content.

Unless there is a large number of countries that do it, it's pretty much a waste of time and an hindrance to your own economic growth and well being of your population.

If that was against internationnal law, the Cuban embargo of the US would be too.

And I fail to see why you mention the UN apart for scoring a cheap shot. Real mature

Pretty much any western rich country could come up with a list like this. Some countries such as the US and Canada the list would be even longer.. any way, I'm not in favour of a boycott or any thing, just seems silly to make a list..lol
