It is really hard. I love most British accents: I'm very partial to English, Irish, and Scottish. But if I had to choose one or be executed, then I would probably just say British, though the English have those fecking awsome pronunciation of "issue" and "schedule". But I even prefer Irish expletives, so I am going to choose Irish.

Well, by definition the California accent* is cool. But anyway....

I would have scoffed at this except just today in a playwrighting workshop there was a chick there with an Irish accent describing her play which I decided was the greatest story ever told. I don't know what it was and I don't care. I just wanted her to keep talking about it.

*Yes we have accents, a few actually. The Valley accent is one ("Like, oh m'god...") Most of them have commonalities, like softening the ends of words such as never pronouncing the 'g' of words that end in -ing. (We're goin' somewhere, etc. Granted a lot of accents have that, but it's the easiest to talk about without being able to verbalise.) It also has a lot of legato tongue (s'up instead of what is up). Dude functions in the same way as Smurf. Depending on where you are from you have an opinion on the word 'hella'.

If I could find one yank who can replicate an Australian accent without it sounding like an incredibly exaggerated one (by North Queenslander terms) I would be happy. It's really quite simple. Do a British cockney accent then slow it down because of the heat in the climate. There you have it. Minnesota accents are so bloody funny though. Makes most Canadians sound less goofy. However we Australians do like to rup un the Nuw Zullandas. What with their fush and chups... Now that I've managed to thoroughly insult most people I'll leave now.

We don't have those Sven and Ole stories...it's probably a upper midwest thing.
I found some at Internet and they are alright, mate. :D

We do have many jokes about norwegians. Ole is a norwegian name, you know.

I've always loved British accents. They have a unique way of stating the obvious ("Mind the Gap", "Way Out", "What's all this then", "Right!!!") that I've learned mostly from Monty Python and Harry Potter. I'm from Philadelphia, and when I visited London, I may as well have been speaking French....it was very interesting, to say the least.

Aussie accents are cool too, especially when I hear Elle MacPherson's voice... ;)

New Yorkers, on the other hand, always sound to me like they speak completely through the nose.

I am a sucker for a British accent and Scottish accents are kinda cool too. I also like a Boston accent and Brooklyn. Although now that I've heard Aerou's voice sample, I have to say the Polish accent is now on my list of favorites! yay Aerou! :)

Eh, kind of finding it interesting that you call them British accents collectively. Scottish and Irish and British accents are completely different, even though the Scots Gaelic and Irish languages are close enough. The pronunciation differs greatly from each of the three areas - they are seperate and can't really be referred to as a group

I'm partial to Brit-ish and frum thuh south. Afterall, I'm frum Phlooriduh. I can't help it but laugh when British people are in an arguement. Especially in British films. They're not that funny in terms of comical value, but man, their expressions and language use. "Fuh-ing Kroist, ya blimey bostord" Anything but New England accents! Florida is South New York; I'm so sick of NY, NJ, and Bawstun accents. :mp5:

I grew up in northern Wisconsin... very Scandinavian/German in accent.

for instance, no rounding of the vowels... in California, an "O" is pronounced "eh-ooh". In wisconsin, it is pronounced "oh".

THE FUNNIEST accent I've ever heard can be found in the Upper Peninsula (UP) of Michigan.

It is a WAY EXTREME version of the Wisconsin accent.

If you saw the movie Fargo... that is a mild UP accent. Minnesotans/Wisconsinites do not have accents as extreme as that in Fargo, and the Fargo accent is not as hilarious as that in the UP.

If a Yooper says the word, "Jesus"... it sounds like a donkey screaming, "EEE-AAAA"
