If you HAD to give up one of your five senses...

I feel like being a little frivolous today so:

If you had to give up any one of your five senses (assuming you indeed have all five to begin with), which would you choose?

Sight, hearing, touch, taste or smell?

Edit: Okay, I screwed up big time...putting speech as a sense instead of smell. It seems this question is moot since I have obviously lost all my senses.

Speech isn't a sense. I'd give up smell.

I feel I should point out that speech isnt a "Sense" its a method of communication.

Yep, smell. Did you perhaps have a minor brainfart and type "speech" repeatedly when you meant "smell"?

taste hands down, limited sight/hearing are hard on the self-esteem, limited touch is dangerous, not being able to say anything would suck (but not a sense), and if you lost your sense of smell I think it would effect your ability to taste also. loss of taste would just make it a chore to eat I believe.

Ditto.

Let me decide:

Sight: I love this one..there are just so many great things to feast the eyes upon...starry night skies, my daughter's smiles, sunsets on the ocean...

Hearing: I live for music...I don't think this is one I would even consider giving up if I had to choose.

Touch: Tough...I mean, to lose all sensation, yeah, definitely not.

Taste: The way I love food? Never!

Speech: Hey, this one I might do...it would be terrible not to be able to sing anymore...but of all the senses, I think this is the only one I could imagine sacrificing. You could still communicate with people...

Who said they would lose sight heheh?

I'd give up sight. Have you noticed just how ugly the majority of people are?

Do I have the senses wrong? You're right, I do. I'm an idiot. Smell..duh

Definate dumbness.

Isn't it more of an output than an input thing?

Sight, since I've lost most of it already.

Where's smell on that list?

taste, but smell over that, however that was not an option, I accidentaly clicked hearing. My bad. Anyway, without taste, I could win on fear factor.

You're excused. Gotta love your reasoning heheh.

I'd lose feeling(touch), since then I could get the guts to start putting machines into my body and become a cyborg. :D

it'd be between taste and smell... smell is a large part of taste anyway, so if you took out smell you'd be taking out a large portion of your ability to taste.

so i'd probably take out taste.

now

if i could i would take away my ability to taste awful food (or things that taste awful to me... about half of my taste sense would be deadened) and my ability to smell noxious odors (eg, sulfur).

1/2 taste + 1/2 smell = one whole sense

hehe

Okay, since I've realised speech isn't a sense (arghhh...serious brain fart), I guess smell would be the one to go. It'd be a shame, because it would interfer with taste, but I find that my olfactory sense is usually the one that causes me the most problems...any perfumes or colognes in the vicinity are enough to give me a headache, and if I actually put some perfume on myself, I have to change my shirt and shower before I can stand my smell. So smell is gone.

Taste definately. I mean....I would hate to not be able to "stop and smell the roses" once in awhile. But I could deal without tasting the food I eat sometimes.

Taste. You'd still get the smell of food, so it wouldn't be a total loss.

Taste .... then I'd sooo win Fear Factor.

I have lived my entire life with no sense of smell, so if I all of a sudden gained it and then had to toss a sense, it would definatly be smell. I wouldnt miss it, I am quite happy not smelling anything. You dont care about all the good things you never were able to smell, and your friends dont have to worry about farting around you either.

Hmmm, if I had to give up one sense I guess I would give up common sense and become a Republican.

Scent. With allergies like mine, I can barely use it most of the time anyway!
