The Dovrat Report (Israel)

A recently published (and hotly debated) report looks like it may make its way through. The Dovrat Report, or Doch Dovrat, suggests major changes to the education system, chief among these are:

~ Severe cuts in the education budget, so that the Arab and Israeli schools have the same budget. (currently Israeli schools have much more)
~ The laying off of some 15'000 teachers, with higher salaries to the remaining teachers.
~ Learning cut to Sun-Thurs instead of the current Sun-Fri.
~ Lessons to 4 PM instead of the current 2 or 3PM.
~ Further budget cuts for the top two classes (Grade 11/12 or 6th/7th form or whatever system you use!)
~ A severe cut in holidays, the summer holiday becomes 6 weeks, hanukah (Christmas) 1 day. Pesach (Easter) a week etc...

So basically, if you take the school near here, which only learns 5 days anyway, what they get is:
# Shorter holidays.
# Longer hours.
# Less funds, so lower standards.

What do you guys think about this report? Good/Bad/Indifferent? What would you change? What is the best part? Any opinions or comments.

I think the parents are going to have to suck up the difference in funds if they want to keep the same opportunities available. Look out for cuts in the arts, especially.

Hey, we went on vacation to Herzliaya one time. Where about are you?

Herzliyya? What the hell were you doing there? *goes to look at tourist leaflets for any sign of Herzliyya*
Only reason I know the place exists is because of the karting track there!

Seriously, how the hell you have not got deleted yet is beyond me. Try and post something slightly more in depth than that.

We stayed at a nice hotel on the beach. Took all the day tours to Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, and Masada. Made some side trips to Haifa, Tel-Aviv, and Jaffa. It was a pretty busy two weeks, but we really enjoyed it. Restaurant food is too expensive, though. I'm glad my company picked up the bill for that.

I was working at the Ramat David Air Base updating some of their electronic systems. Took a week of vacation to be a tourist afterwards.

Opposed strongly. Now that the Israeli economy has started to make some rebounds, there is no need to cut and run in education. I am glad to see a National Unity government in place, and maybe Shinui will re-join them. That would be (I believe) 74 seats between Likud, Shinui, and Avoda.

I don't know anything about Israel so those all seem like reasonable actions to me unless someone gives me reasons why they shouldn't be. How do classes in Israel compare to say uk or china?

They don't compare to the UK, having never gone to school in China I can't say. Schools in the UK are infinitely better.
