Being born in the early 80's I HATED 80's music when I was a kid, now I love it because it is so crap! So come clean, what horrors lurk in your music collection from that era? Are you going to "Walk like an Egyptian?" (Bangles) Did Dead or Alive "Spin you round and round, like a record baby?" If so then you can "take on me" (Ah-ha) as long as you "Wake me up before you go go!" (Wham!).
If you want something more exotic, what about "99 Red Baloons" (Nena), or if you'd rather the origional German, "Nine on nine sur loft balon."!:D COME CLEAN! COME CLEAN! Roxette, Blonde, Duran Duran, Anne Lennox?

What's wrong with Anne Lennox?
Nada zip! Other than the fact it was the 80's!:D

I'm a sucker for 80's movie soundtracks, which is pretty weird considering I'm mostly into heavy metal. But The Breakfast Club, Top Gun, Footloose...hell yeah!!! ;)

I too have all of those 'artists,' (including a cool techno remix of the German versian of "99 Red Balloons") plus gems like Ace of Base!:D

Oh, good. I'm more into 60/70's myself.
It is not spelt ah-ha silly!
It is spelt "a-ha" and yes they are the greatest band of the 80s, their 80s music is great and I listen to it all the time.
The original of " The Living Daylights" is undoubtedly the best track, but who could forget "Touchy!" "The Sun Always Shines on TV" and "Cry Wolf".
They are great, Duran Duran are good too and Wham!
Why do you think 80s music is bad?, why is somebody droning and playing a guitar better than that great stuff you have listed? Besides, Blondie were more of a 70s band not what would be described as a "naff 80s band" and Annie Lennox is perfectly respectable too, they all are (nearly).
What is your problem and what is with the title of the thread, no songs are listed or anything despite the title being "tack-o-rama song"
Not *everything* from the 80's sucked. :)
But MC Hammer sure as hell did.

I don't know why I hated 80's music in the 80's, but I love it now, especially the tacky stuff!:D I really just started this thread so I could get inspiration for things to download.;)
As for my problem, which one dare I ask?:P

Nena died a quick and painful professional death, thankfully (Jeezus.)
Other than that, the music of the 1980's was pretty good. I was a teenager then, and loved the stuff.
Those are all good! *>_<*
Even Bananarama had some good songs....

"Neunundneunzig Luftballons"
Sorry :fluffle:
thanks for that Legless!:) No wonder it's always listed as "99 Red Baloons" in German, that looks next to impossible to spell!:D

You mentioned some good ones. But don't forget the Smiths and the Cure. They were great. Def Leppard was ahead of its time - they get lumped in with the hair bands but they were definately a good hard rock band. For all the bubble gum chewers out there, it can't get better than Bon Jovi.

Excuse me, but where is 'Bucks Fizz' or 'Bros' on that list?
Or Jason Donovan or Kylie Minogue for that matter.
The 80's gave us Big Black and The Butthole Surfers, along with The Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses, so it can't have been all bad.
For me personally, I can't stand 'You can call me Al' by Paul Simon. Not cause I hate him (I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel and 'Al' isn't that bad a song) but rather I once worked in a supermarket when I was at school. One day I was there for 6 hours and I heard that FUCKING SONG 14 times!! FUCK Classic Radio and their high rotate!
The same goes for "Like a Virgin" where they played it 11 times in the same time.

The Violent Fems, early REM (before they got stupid), U2, the Police ... but I digress. I think the point of the thread is not actual good music from the eighties but the guilty pleasure pop shit that one would never admit to liking. For me it's a lot of crap from "Rock You Like a Hurricane" by the Scorpians to "Don't be Cruel" by Bobby Brown. Don't hate me - pity me.
It's all good... except for the crap. But who remembers the crap? :)
Don't forget Tears for Fears, Billy Idol, has somone mentioned Def Leppard?
its spelt a-ha not "Ah-hah"

Oh man. The Top Gun soundtrack represents a low, low point in human history. Luckily the Talking-freaking-Heads redeemed the decade.
