A Time and a Place to Walk Away

Tuesday Heights

I've been playing NationStates for more than a year now. In that year, I never could've imagined that NS would become so an integral, almost, part of my life. I've made a lot of enemies but a lot more friends, and so, this farewell is for each and everyone in NS - whether we got along or not - that touched my life through a game we each have forged a destiny in that will last forever.

I've said many goodbyes within the NationStates world. I've tried to walk away many times. This is no different. Today is a bit different, today, I am walking away to save my life.

This semester at my university will determine my future. I say this in all serious, because until now, I've taken my education for granted and thought I could slide by... unfortunately, I cannot any longer. I have to start taking accountability for my actions, and I'm sorry to say that for most of my college career I've used NationStates to escape from the responsibility that lies on my shoulders.

I let NationStates be my anti-depressent. I let NationStates be my escape. I let NationStates slowly suicide me into sleepless nights on IRC, harassing invaders, and being a total bitch to those in NS Moderation who don't know the rules as well as I do. I've let NS steal my soul.

Today, right now, I snatch my soul to keep.

So, this isn't goodbye... this is simply... moving on. Moving on until I can prioritize my life in the way it was meant to be and put my family, my friends, my fiancee, my education, my newspaper career, and myself first.

Don't count me out; I'll still be around, just not as much, but you all know how to reach me.

welcome to the club.

Well, I might just start a thread and say "Well, I'm going now, it's been great y'all, have fun with your lives. If you want to buy this sweet nation of mine, send $10.00 US to [my address at the time]"

Heh, best of luck with the schooling. Glad to see you've got your priorities straight. (And example a great many others would be wise to follow.) See ya 'round!

th,

i dont know if you will see this but for what its worht i never realised how much we had in commen until i read your goobye post. i never knew nationstates when i did my schooling, but as you have been doing so hve i. i also use this world as an escape from rl, i suffer from depression and a mild form of seperation angzitey(sp), no one here can realy know about the days of crying after my first deat or the pain i still feal from it, except maybe you. through or brief period of friendly batter here and there i have found a great respect for you and feal as if you are one of my closest friends. in less the 6 months i may to have to give up my daily 10 hours on ns when it is time for me to go to sea. i hope in the months before this happens to me you will have had a good out come to you leaving so that maybe i can look at you and say "wow she did it whats stoping me?". thank you th for all the times we spent togther on the irc and the mdsc, thank you for looking past my nations name and seeing some one that you could like. now as the tears start to dampen my eyes and key baord i finish.

thankyou friend

See you around the planet, Tuesday. Sorry we didn't get to know each other very well, but I liked your posts ... well ... most of them anyway. :D

I wish you the very best of everything life has to offer. May you find your true calling. May you be wildly successful at everything you undertake. And may you walk with peace, always.

Get some perspective and will power; remember, it's only a game  .

It's probably a good thing that you've tempered your NS involvement, because if that speech is anything to go by you need to get an education.

I hardly ever played NS when I was a member. I used to play while I was waiting for documents to download, it was a good mind-numbing time killer in that sense. I eventually left NS precisely because I needed to change the wallpaper, so I started playing Londinivm instead.

It also p'd me off because, notwithstanding those that do, I don't understand that if people want to get involved in humanitarian or political activity why they don't do it for real. For a mere game, the amount of time that was obviously spent on some of those proposals was staggering - what a waste!

Oh, and by the way, if you didn't know TH had gone how can you possibly miss her now?

Some people have made very good friends on this forum. In that sense, it is much more than a game.

Besides, don't you have anything better to do than bitch at people who left three months ago?

I'm quite sure that given a little time the mods will soon close it, despite its sudden rise in popularity.

Nope. I recently got thrown out of Londinivm, and I'm downloading some docs [doing work in other words], so answering 3 month old posts is the next best mind-numbing thing I could think of. Perhaps a little better than Lond actually.
