The Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy is the greatest piece of literature published since the First Folio of 1623, and as such it deserves considerably more discussion than it is currently getting.

P.S. I meant to post a poll with this but it didn't work

The narration isn't strictly a character, but it's very funny.

Zem the mattress? yeah he's good, but only because he's in a scene with Marvin. I heard a brilliant scene in a preview for the tertery phase of the radio series:
Marvin (in his low, depressive voice): Pick a number, any number.
Zem: Five!
Marvin: Wrong.

Marvin is the greatest.

Marvin is annoying. He would be funnier if he was more sarcastic than depressed.

Marvin, or Ford Prefect, Or quite possibly the cow in the restraunt

Ford. I just love it so much in book 3 or 4 when he's sabotaging the spaceship and laughing manaically. It's just too funny.

Arthur Dent. I feel like him alot. My least favorite is Zaphod, because I saw the BBC miniseries and it totally ruined the character for me. he's doomed to be the fucktard who's too damn cool for himself.

Disaster Area! (Or Hotblack Desiato, if you don't count the whole band as a character.)

Second would be the sperm whale, and third maybe Marvin.

Don't Panic!

Sorry to sound fanatical, but he's called Slartibartfast, not Zarty whatever, and that trailer SUCKS!!! It makes it look like Independence Day or something, and the hitch hikers guide isn't a book in that sense of the word.

dont worry, you dont sound fanatical...we can tell you never understood THHG2G

1. We all know what they mean by Zlarty bartfast
2. Then don't go and see the movie if you dont like the trailer
3. Uhh.. yes it is assuming that you mean the novel, or if you are talking about the actual guide, in which case it si still a book,, just in digital form

I feel better now.

Wop!

I feel much better now...

I think this is how the name came to be:
Douglas Adams thought of the rudest word he could think of which was Fartifuckballs, but he wasn't allowed to use it, so he scrambled the letters.

Dirk Gently is my favorite character from any Douglass Adams, but from Hitchhiker's Guide I'd have to go with either Marvin ("Me, brain the size of a planet.") or Slartibartfast ("I won an award for those fjords.").
