I'd rather be in a country where people can choose to be overweight than in a place where they have to choose between eating grass or rocks.

I'd rather live in a country so abundant that no one worries about housing or food, but about what they look like.

I'd rather live in a country that can do what's morally right than listen to what is politically correct.

I'd rather live in a country where the citizens recognize inialated isn't even remotely close to the world annihilate.

But most of all, I'd rather live in a country where I don't have to put up with trolls on you on a daily basis.

I'm 5' 10" and I weight 175 pounds. I am 44 years old, and I can run 3 miles in 18 minutes flat.

And as for losing Vietnam, we left because the public didn't want to stomach killing people. Wars are won by people who are not only willing to die, but more than willing to kill as many people as it takes.

As you may have noticed by the recent election, we seem to have lost all consideration of how many people we kill.

Then again, we're all from earth and then the solar system and then the rest of the bloody universe so why don't we call ourselves universians.

Swedish (that also is the #1 place to live in if you would look at Times or the UN's list over countrys where its best to live, US is about #25 or something.. I donno! I dont live there!)

Facts about Sweden:

We have a King that has come from france in the 1700th century (about the time when they helped the US to beat the english) and a Queen (that is from a german family but lived in brazil when the king found her) But none of them has any power. But they can still not be charge with any fellony.. Wee!

We are the makers of the REAL meatball!

We have two princess, both of them are HOT! :p

There are more swedish familys that moved to the US bck in the 1900th century then there are sweds in sweden...

Its illegal to think(!) about building a nuklear powerplant even thou we have 5 or so of them.

We made the sthealt tec. that is used on the american F117 and B2 bomber.. But we bade it to build the worlds only stealt boat (SWEET)

George W Bush once said "Sweden doesn't have an army?!" In fact: The US navy has rented the swedish sub Gotland to train on as for the fact that even thou Gotland is a disel sub and that is only a third the size of a normal US sub; the US navy has never won a Wargame agienst the Gotland!

There is tones more but i think I'll pass..

Wow. Where to start with that one?

Actually I wish I was american: So come apply!

so I could have voted against Bush: True, but it usually takes about 7 years to gain citizenship. But that would be your right.

although Kerry was not any better: Probably, but we're unlikely to know now.

But at least I would have had the opportunity to say that they suck: You're doing that right now, though.

and I would have been heard: Which you are right now

by isolationist americans who only listen to americans: Americans are obviously *not* isolationist. Do you mean to Americans that voted for Bush, Americans that don't care about International policy, or Americans from "Red States"? Or something else entirely?

Americans havent' been truly isolationist since the Spanish American War, though the period between WW1 and WW2 was more isolationist than post WW2 to be sure.

Sorry, but it *is* our election, not a plebecite on Iraq. Until such time as we have World Government, foreigners do not have a say as to whom should or should not be elected. An opinion, yes. A right to campaign? No.

And BTW, the US military is not bombing Iraq. The terrorists are bombing Iraq. We're hunting terrorists, for good for for ill, according to one's POV.

And now for an economic report on Canada from CBS News:

In 2004, Americans spent $705.9 billion on entertainment, a figure equivalent to the entire gross national product of Canada -- or Australia, for that matter. These estimates come from Unity Marketing Group, of Stevens, Pa.

The company's president, Pam Danziger, explained that the key driver of the spending is consumers' need for "self actualization."

"Unlike so many other categories of spending that are directed toward the necessities of life, recreation and entertainment are purely discretionary and emotionally driven," she said.

According to Danziger, spending on this category accounts for 8.5 percent of personal consumption in the U.S.

Strong in what regard? Military? Doubtful! Economicly? Probably are! Free? Not as free as the USA! Hence, it can be debated that your strong and free.

But I do Like the Nation of Canada!

Hehe, only an American would think that only military equals strength.

*shakes her head*

Canada is the 9th largest economy in the world and probably higher than that for being stable.

Canada in my opinion is more free than that of the United States.. we allow use of weed for medical purpose, we don't let god get in the way of our government, we allow gay marriage.. I could go on, but most of all, in Canada we don't have any thing like the patriot act, we actually don't sweep people up off the street where they aren't heard from for months.. and they CAN have a lawyer.. and a trial even, imagine.. due process. I guess it depends on what YOU consider freedom huh..

Canada is strong in more ways than one.. :)

You international self-righteous idiots forget the WWII bailout America gifted Europe. Not to mention the Marshall plan. You're welcome Germany and Japan!
Anyway, there are a ton of zealot fundamentalists here who are drunk on Cheetos and Wild Cherry Pepsi. Over half of our population suffer at the hands of these NASCAR-ese proletariot monsters. Don't forget that the next time you decide to America-bash. Canada, you are the world's largest exporter of asbestos, and what's happening to your forests? If you live in a glass house, be careful where you throw stones. Bullocks to the Queen's colonies and all their self-rtighteous posteuring! How long has it been since England was the biggest empire in the world? Just since Adolf fucked up your economy with his little march across Europe. I'm proud to be a progressive, enviornmentally conscious, voting, volunteering, open-minded American. What do you do to improve life in your country?

I'm allowed to carry my own pistol, loaded, and open or concealed, anywhere around where I live except inside a police station, courtroom, church, or public school.

I think that's rather hard to do in Canada. And my state's violent crime rate dropped over 35 percent in the year following the liberalization of concealed carry.

Good point but then, our economy is world driven much like Canada's but even more so meaning that we'll feel the affects moreso than Canada!

Not free in the form of Healthcare. we're not state runned like Canada is and thank God for that. As for the UAPATRIOT Act, I still live my life as a NORMAL human being. I can still do what I want, when I want to do it so how is it affecting my life? It is not. As for due process, we still have that too. Or are you talking the terrorist that we have in Gitmo? They are getting trials currently as we speak.

Canada is strong in more ways than one.. :)

And I won't argue this but I had to give an appearance of such! Honor you know ;)

Steph ... you know I like you, but sometimes you really don't make a lot of sense. All American citizens are entitled to know the charges against them and to a trial by a jury of their peers. Nowhere does it say that people who are not American citizens are entitled to any of the rights quaranteed to citizens by the Constitution.

I'm from Spain. Now, here's a piece of my mind:

My eyes are hurting due to excesive rolling, and it seems to be this people´s fault:

1. "I'm ashamed to be american"

Give me a break. Every nation, and I mean EVERY single one has good and bad things and goes through good and not-so-good times. You could say that your current administration ashames you, but saying that you're ashamed of being american is simply stupid AND can be solved easily by moving somewhere else, great places that you can visit and soon feel ashamed of.

2. "It's ok, it's not your fault, Mr. Ashamed American"

 Captain self-righteous to the rescue!

3. "WE SAVED YOUR REARS IN WW2!"

Gaaaah... this is the stupidest thing ever. But look, I can play this game too! "HEY SHUDDAP! WE DISCOVERED YOU! HOW POWERFUL WUD U BE IF WE HADNT? ZERO THATS HOW MUCH HUR HUR HUR"

4. "BLOOD4OIL!"

There may have been some abuses, although I remain unconvinced as of this writing, but those have been or will be corrected by the American system of jurisprudence. As has been stated: "The wheels of justice grind slowly, but they gind exceeding fine."

I seen it on a CBC documentary done here in Canada. They spoke to the families and such. Turned out their loved ones were picked up just because they were Muslims.. turns out they had done nothing other than be Muslim. Yes, they were American Muslims in case you wonder. They pointed out too that the Justice department use to announce when they had picked people up, but because they were being question so much on this, they stopped letting the numbers become public. You may not trust the CBC, but I do.

Any way, this wasn't suppose to be "my country is better than yours" thread. I blame Corneliu for bringing it up.. LOL :D

Tell that to the thousands of people detained for years, whose lives will be essentially ruined. Think of all that time they will have missed, do to mistakes. They won't be able to have the lives they wanted. Their jobs are lost, their education curtailed....Basically, their lives can't be fixed. They can be let out of jail, but what about their finances? What about all those aspiring doctors out there, who have years of schooling? Think about others for a change. Put yourself in that situation. Stop looking at things from an impersonal point of view. If it was you, and your life that was messed up, your dreams crushed, years taken from your life. That is one of my worst fears, for me not to succeed in life. I have a lot of goals, as do almost all of the prisoners held by the Patriot Act with no evidence against them whatsoever. Most Muslims do. I intend on being a doctor one day, and possibly triple majoring in college. That's going to take many years. Do you think I would want years taken away from me needlessly when every year is precious? Not to mention the horrific life of prison. I cannot stress how cold and heartless your message is.

Well, you don't know me or you wouldn't make that sort of statement. I do feel sorrow for any who may have been incorrectly detained, just as I feel sorrow for those charged with crimes such as rape who were later proven ( largely by the development of DNA testing ) to have been falsely accused and incorrectly convicted.

The problem with this entire issue is that most Americans, including those in government and the police forces, were deeply shocked by 9/11 and may indeed have overreacted. Shortly after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, many Japanese Americans were interned in camps for very similar reasons. Many years passed before restitution was made. It may be that neither of these actions ( internment of Japanese Americans and internment of Moslem Americans ) were justified. However, can you at least understand the shock and fear which prompted them?

Nationality means nothing at all. There good and bad in all countries. Though having said that...the US does seem to have a higher than average amount of arrogant jerks.

Correction you're very witty: just imagine you could have also said, 'takes one to know one' or 'oh no we're not, you are!' or the never ending classic 'oh, the irony!'.

Do you come up with your own material? Perhaps you could write some of it down?

To every American who says "we saved your ass in WWII and then again with the Marshall Plan" to Europeans as though we're altruistic sweethearts- get a grip! We did it out of self-interest. It was perhaps enlightened self-interest, but self-interest all the same. It was in our own interest to stabilize Europe by fighting the Axis, rebuilding the economies was neccessary to keep the USSR from grabbing anymore and we didn't do it out of love. Governments rarely do.
