ya, that's too much. I love games and all, but to play for 72 hours straight? That's a bit exessive.
Whatever floats your boat though.

I think people that are this susceptible to suggestion shouldn't be playing games at all.
I mean, I've had dreams about Tetris before, but I'm not going around actually trying to fit everything I see together. I had a dream related to Counter Strike the other night (although I've only played it once - I've heard my boyfriend play it often enough), but I don't feel the urge to kill anyone in real life.

I am talking about the article though ... not about my personal experience (though relating to that) the effect prevelant in the article has not seemed to effect me ... but is it really a common problem?

Same here ... Playing call of duty ... WWII FPS most of the weekend ... no urge to kill ... but I did have a dream I was running around sort of thing. But that is a dream not a waking dream sort of mixed reality thing

I had it once after playing Final Fantasy 8 for a loooong time. When I turned a corner, I had the strangest feeling that it should load up a new sequence. Hardly a vast problem, I wasn't concerned about having to fight a random battle at a moments notice, and it's the only time it has happened to me, and it was years ago. I think it can be a common occurence in very slight amounts, like what I experienced, but the complete reality slip I think would be quite rare.

Burnout 3 has definitely altered how I look at driving. I'll be merging onto the Grand Central and I'll be thinking, "if I clock that dude just right, I can knock him over the Jersey barrier and into the opposite lane. Then I'll get my crashbreaker. Yeah."
Of course this is all very self-aware. I'm not actually gonna drive over anybody with my car. Unless they piss me off.

I have actually experienced this. When I was in College I used to hang out at my girlfriends house alot. When she was studying or doing something that didn't involve me, I would play tetris on her gameboy. Many times during extrended periods of neglect, I would play for hours. Afterwards, I would catch myself trying to stack things in my mind. It was actually pretty funny when I cought myself doing this. A little scary too.

Once I played Command and Conquer Renegade for ages, until I got killed by a boss. It was just before bedtime so when I went to bed I spent half the night wide awake imagining that some 7ft tall cyborg mutant was about to walk in my door and kick my ass.
It seriously messed with my head. That's probably the second scariest thing that has ever happened to me.

Hehe. My boyfriend has what he calls "Grand Theft Auto" moments. He'll see a car left unattended, or more often, a bus or something and the urge to steal it and drive around in it will cross his mind. It's not anything he's actually going to do - but it enters his mind because of the game.
The problem is these people who are so open to suggestion that they can't say "I'm not playing the game, therefore I shouldn't do this."

1 Health Risks: carpal tunnel, eye problems, etc.
2 Mental Health: OCD, anyone?
3 :D: yea! Computer games are being shown to have risks. Tell Jack Chick and his ilk to lay off the RPGs (the real ones, not the computer "Role" play) and go bother someone else.

But have you ever really known someone that couldn't separate fantasy from reality? I haven't met anyone like that yet.

About 6 months ago I read a story about a man who died after a 27 hour marathon of Counterstrike. Apparently he had a heart attack.

The same thing sometimes happens to me but, in all cases it's just for half a second or when I just woke up.

I can't speak for the article but clearly you're addicted.
I mean, 72 hours of lan and then what do you do? Go on a game forum!
Get a grip on yourself man! Consult the nearest GA (Gamers Annonymous). It saved my life, it can save yours!

It's like the Chapelle Grand Theft sketch. It's funny cause it ain't serious. As far as I can see, the Burnout or GTA moments are no different than say, sitting in your car, waiting at a crosswalk and saying something like: "Oooh. That one's got a crutch: He'd be worth three points." Which my old man said, without the help of videogames.
If you're that open to suggestion though, somebody's gonna get their hooks in you one way or the other. Maybe Marx, maybe Swaggart, maybe Manson, maybe Red Dead Revolver. Things probably aren't going to end up well, regardless of videogames.

the worst i ever get would be if i play a difficult fps for too long - well, it doesnt neccesarily have to be difficult, just intense, like Call of Duty (talking single-player here). I'd sometimes get the urge to quicksave my real life all the time (yeah i'm crap at fps games, still enjoy them though!). Hasnt happened for a while though.

Are you not embarassed by his mask and cape, or has this just become an accepted part of domestic life?

I can spend days playing civilization (or any one of several variants) without ever having suffered from this spilling over into my real life activities. I don't go around thinking "oh that city would be a useful beachhead later, I think i'll invade it".
No there is not such a thing as too much gaming. (unless you fail to get up on time for work/study)

I agree with that part there. I know people that spent 4 years just gaming and watching anime who still work at Target and wake up late because of playing a game too long. Gaming is more a way to escape reality than actually work hard and make something of themselves in life. :headbang:
After playing Command and Conquer Generals for hours, sometimes I try to build a Rocket Buggy in my garage :) Or train my brother to be Jarmen Kell.

Well, some days he'd be Kung Fu dad and I'd have to put up with all that "grasshopper, mow the lawn" horseshit. Other days, he'd do the mask and cape. Tell you the truth, they didn't bother me as much as the accompanying crevice-hugging black spandex bodysuit.
All in all, I'm glad I flew the coop before Kill Bill happened.

Better hope there isn't already a Jarmen Kell in the world already else your brother cannot become him. Only one per map! :sniper:
Naw, its one per team :) I know, I play multiplayer all the time, me and my friend got our Jarmen Kell's into another friends base :) remote bombs on every building. It was cool seeing everything blow up at once lol.
Of course, those damn pathfinders.... damn them.

Nope, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.
I never met Santa Clause, that doesnt mean he doesnt exist?
