Yes, Virginia, you can have more than just a militia and self-defense with a gun. You can actually have fun.

After you've enjoyed that, if you're not too out of puff why not jet over to Britain for a visit to Stoke Gravel Museum? Kids under 80 and OAPs get in free. Unsuprisingly.

More fun with improvised artillery:

We did a pumpkin launcher back when I was in high school. Physics teacher let participants opt out of the final if we won. Calibrated it with bowling balls (for the reuse factor). It did about 150 yds. at a 45-degree angle (nowhere near the altitude of the mortar link, though it did some nice trough craters.).

"What a piece of work is man
How noble in reason
How infinite in faculties"
....
:)
Just example what man can do, if he just puts his mind to it.

Just a cynical remark. Nothing more.
Very funny thing though.

Does it make much noise???

Kind of funny, but why would a thermonuclear blast blow his arm off?

We built a homemade howitzer one time. It was 250mm, fired a 200 pound projectile 3/4 of a mile using only 20 pounds of black powder. The "shell" was travelling at 1500fps, and made the pond jump out of its banks. We were 100 yards away and our ears still hurt. The police came and took away our fun and arrested all of us. That thing took 48 hours to build.
