RPing?

Does anyone on here not do this, does anyone who does want to explain how it works?
Don't move this, I don't really care for it to be a technical discussion, if I want that I will post there on my own. I just want to hear some opinions on it, and see what the draw is.
I don't RP. I come on here for, what I hope to be, interlectual conversation on wide ranging topics...and also for a bit of a laugh! ;)

What's the draw of RP for me?
Escapism that I have a hand in shaping :p
But I don't RP here, so...

That is the way I am, but I have wondered about the RP aspect of NS but I have never had a clue how it works, and the people who do take it so deep that I don't think I would ever catch up with it. Even if I did, however, I would lose interest quickly, I surmise.
Stick with general. RPing used to be a mildly fun diversion, but I lost patience with it. It's gotten progressively worse, filled with trends such as "Earth VI" etc.

As always, there is good RP and bad RP. If you find those RPers who you can share a common paradigm as far as gaming goes, you can get all you want out of roleplay.

See, I don't even have a clue what you are talking about. "Earth VI"?

Well a while back someone thought it would be a good idea if they made an "Earth" thread where everyone claimed a piece of real-world land as their country's location. Of course, space ran out and there are now 6, possibly more, different copycat "Earth" threads...not including those who don't call themselves "Earth XII" or whatever, there are countless "Mr. RPsogood's Nation Claims" threads and the like. The problem with this is, you have people who won't RP with anyone who isn't in their Earth, which is the majority of the forum. It's a confusing, illogical mess, and a good RP is near impossible as a result.

RPing is loads of fun, so don't listen to Kanabia. Yes, II can get a bit filled with stuff like that, but you can very easily reach out on your own and do your own thing. I am right now; I'm embroiled in a rather large conflict that started as a mild war between myself and a terrorist organization.

But how does it work, is it like two kids playing soldier or what?
Edit: If it is
BANG!! Your dead Kanabia!!!
I love preemptive strikes.
And that's great, until you're threatened by someone smaller than you who claims to have 60,000 nukes or tanks with impenetrable armour.
The *only* way to ensure a good RP is by having a closed-RP and getting solely people you already know to take part in it- but then there's not much point, is there?

My recommendation is to seek out some of the better RPer's; lurk for a little while in II and see who's good at RPing. Some notable names would be the Merchant Guilds, Decisive Action, and Sacantraphrax.
Basically, the normal RP involves a variety of things; you normally control several characters for bits and peices, like new cities, terrorism, and the like. With war RPs, though, you're controlling whole armies. It's very difficult to explain in just a few words; it's better to let the more experienced RPer's explain.

Godmodder ;) [/RP jargon]
You can get RP's where people take time to write out a good storyline, but usually, yeah, it's like two kids playing supreme dictator.
Decisive Action
Ah yes, I particularly enjoyed the part where he claimed to have a version of Ebola virus that only targetted black people.

What? I haven't been around long enough to know who all of the good RPers are, so I picked random names. They're there, and there are a lot of RPs that are great, I think. It's just a case of what you're interested in.
The thread listed in my signature explains why I RP. That's as good as I can say.

Maybe. DA doesn't strike me as a good RPer though.

Well, Vittos, it's up to you to decide. The info is out there for you to use, the RPs are possible, it's all up to you as to how you proceed. Now, I say go for it, but that's me.

Here we go, I went to the first RP post I could find and here it is:
IC:
Sergeant Bilko went around and checked the camp nervously. He was nervous, after all, the last group had been atrocious, he'd had to give up on them... all that remained was this group to arrive. He had pinned a sign on each door, from 1-9. 9 rooms, 18 people.
Room 1: Daniel Vosselieu + Rosie Brunter
Room 2: Zizou Frendigrad + Rossok
Room 3: Andrew Hitchkin + Michael Harrison
Room 4: Michael Verin + Arik Twinsnake
Room 5: Isabell Penmark + Joe Salter
Room 6: Zack Gress + Jeep
Room 7: Demitri Kaine + Malius Drake
Room 8: Vladimir Gagan + Yebzer Webb
Room 9: Katrina R. Serranovov + N Romulus II
What the hell is all that about?
Aww, yes, the leet. That is another thing I don't understand. You kids with your crazy languages.
lol. I've exhausted my knowledge of 133+ already, so don't worry.
Anyway, go for it if you like. It's just my opinion that it's a painful waste of time. If you get a decent one going, I might join in. :)

Ignore it; in any RP worth RPing, you won't see it. At all.
You do get good RP's, see something like the 2nd Rugby World Cup thread, (NS forum) for good RP. There are n00b's learners and bad RPers, but you get them in gerneral, you know people who have one view ect.
I've been RPing for over a year now, nearly 2 and I'm not board of it. There's always soemthing new. Most of the time there's something intereting on there. Try to join on of the sports threads. (The 3rd Rugby World Cups coming round soon,[/advert]) and just tell the story, ignore those who can't Rp and rember for them, that we all started somewhere.
