Favorite Comedian?

Who is your favorite comedian?

Mine would be Demetri Martin.

A tidbit of material:

"Swimming is a confusing sport, because sometimes you do it for fun, and other times you do it to not die. And when I'm swimming, sometimes I'm not sure which one it is. I gotta go by the outfit. Pants - uh oh. Bathing suit - okay. Naked - we'll see."

I'd have to say Emo Phillips is mine, but I don't know of very many comedians. Most of the ones other than him that I've seen were talentless hacks, and I can't remember the names of any of the good ones.

Bill Hicks, Bill Bailey, with Al Murray as an underdog. He is very funny, but an all time great? Time will tell for me.

Bill Hicks and Bailey are pure genius, however. They're both so fantastically surreal.

Jim Carrey is the one that makes me laugh the most. Some of his movies have awful scripts. Here the difference between a good and a great comedian comes into play: he was hilarious even in badly-written movies.

dave chappell, george carlin, and mitch hedburg.. most people dont know hedburg - hes a goofy, pointless, one-liner kinda guy..

I bought a doughnut and they gave me a receipt for the doughtnut... I don't need a receipt for the doughnut. I give you money and you give me the doughnut, end of transaction. We don't need to bring ink and paper into this. I can't imagine a scenario that I would have to prove that I bought a doughnut. To some skeptical friend, Don't even act like I didn't buy a doughnut, I've got the documentation right here... It's in my file at home. ...Under "D".

My friend was walking down the street and he said, "I hear music." As if there is any other way of taking it in. I tried to taste it, but it did not work.

I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it.

Someone handed me a picture and said, "This is a picture of me when I was younger." Every picture of you is when you were younger. "...Here's a picture of me when I'm older." Where'd you get that camera man?

I don't own a cell phone or a pager. I just hang around everyone I know, all the time. If someone needs to get ahold of me they just say, "Mitch," and I say, "what" and turn my head slightly...

Alcoholism is a disease, but it's the only one you can get yelled at for having. Goddamn it Otto, you are an alcoholic. Goddamn it Otto, you have Lupis... one of those two doesn't sound right.

Your ip address has been logged, your identity noted, your name, address, phone number, and blood type are already known, your life story is in our hands, the CIA assassins - I mean the proper authorities have been notified, stay where you are until we say otherwise ...

Carl Barren without a doubt. He's a bloody funny guy.
He's an Australian comedian for those of you who have no idea who the hell he is... Robin Williams is ok too.
I can't stand Jim Carey! I can't understand what all you people see in him. The only movie of his the I loved was The Truman Show, fantastic film. Everyone should see that.

In no paricular order:

Sam Kinison
Lewis Black
Denis Leary
George Carlin
Larry The Cable Guy
Bill Engvall
Robert Schimmel
Chris Rock
Eddie Izzard
Robin Williams.

Those were the stand-ups.

For acting, an honorable mention to:

Current comedians - Jimmy Carr (seeing him live next month, come on!), Jack Dee and Peter Kay.
Of all time - Peter Cook and...erm...no-one else. Nobody comes close. He's the single funniest, and most naturally funny person ever. A tragic loss, really.
The Monty Python team, obviously, are probably next. Funniest out of them - Graham Chapman and John Cleese.

I think Conan's a better joke writer than joke teller. I mean, I like his sense of humor, but he doesn't make me laugh. In spite of his weak delivery, his show still makes me laugh because of all the stupid-funny crap they do on it.

And speaking of prime, Kevin Meaney seems passed it. The most recent 30 minute show I saw on Comedy Central of his was pretty weak. I guess there's a finite amount of material you can get from your childhood. :(

Yeah yeah, like that's an original criticism. Name me one comedian who isn't influenced by another of the previous generation. Both men were top-notch social commentators with a great comedic style. Hicks was just twenty years-or-so later. Bruce's act wouldn't have been half as good in Hicks time, and vice-versa - for obvious reasons. They were men of their time.
