General at Late Night

Yeah, I think the general forum seems to be a lot more relaxed during the late night hours. We seem to be more relaxed and humourous than our daytime selves. Maybe we're tired. Maybe we're drunk. Either way, I enjoy 2:00 AM EST General Stuff.

Indeed, yet I have to wait til 7am til it gets more tranquil. In a few hours though, we'll be pounding the vitriol again.
Just to prove my point, all the posts you make tomorrow morning, I'm going to flame the hell out of you and disagree with everything you say. You watch yourself.
(nah, I'm kidding. Though if I recall correctly, I don't always share the same chain of thought with you. O' course, the times that I have argued with you are very very sparse.)

Only one problem with that, I'm not gonna be up until well after the morning is gone.

The only problem is that a moderator would NEVER take part in the really fun threads -- they can't relax that much.

I tend to be here a lot at night. My wife just went to work, my kid is asleep and I'm wide awake. My neighbors get annoyed when I tackle things at 2:00am. So here I am. :D

I am in snowy Akita. Seriously, I left for my vacation and there was maybe one or two centimeters of snow. I wake up this morning and it's almost up to my knees.

I would check my heartbeat, but the damn thing keeps floating away...

I'm from New Jersey, so at least I've seen snow before. There are people here from SoCal or Hawaii. They must be having seizures right now.
And like I tell everyone. It ain't the snow that bothers me. It's the wind that whips up the snow and pelts you in the face with it. I've never had to use an umbrella as a windshield before.

I know. I go to the University of New Hampshire, and I know a few people from California and Florida here. Once it starts snowing, they start complaining about how cold and snowy it is. I always feel compelled to point out that it's New Hampshire.

Reminds me of something funny I've noticed here - the Aussies and Canadiuans complain the most about the cold here. Aussies I can understand but the Canadians?

My sister says that Boston is much warmer than Chicago (having gone to colleges in each), and Chicago is laughable compared to Minnesota (I also went to college in Chicago). I can't imagine Canadians having a problem with Boston.

I went to college in Virginia, and oh you should have seen how they panicked when it snowed more than an inch. Cancel school! Shut down the roads! Throw dirt on the ice!
The dirt was always the best. It didn't do jack shit except make the ice look ugly as hell.

Boston's not so bad because it's right on the water. It gets colder inland. I've never been to either Chicago or Minnesota, so I can't compare, but I doubt Chicago is any worse than Boston, and I imagine that Minnesota is infinitely worse than both.
I don't think Canadians would have problems dealing with the weather here, either. I was talking about people from the warmer parts of the country, like SoCal or Florida, going to school with me bitching about how cold it is like they didn't know before they decided to come.

An inch up here isn't even worth thinking about. Eight inches is about where we stop classifying it as a "flurry", and it takes 14-16 inches before we even start making a big deal about it.

Eight inches would be enough to cancel school in my hometown. But then again, my town is in a very hilly area, so even a little snow or ice made it dangerous to drive. Of course, where I am now, it could probably be a raging blizzard and all those little schoolgirls would be walking along in their sailor uniforms, freezing their little legs off. I have never seen such indifference to weather in my life.

8 inches here is usually good enough to get a two hour delay for school openings, but rarely will it be enough to shut down schools. It takes a heck of a lot of snow to scare us New Englanders.

Yeah, it's about the same in Minnesota. It's all a matter of getting the roads cleared for the people who live far away from the city. Ice will tend to cause a lot of cancellations, though.

So true. I remember this (college aged) student I taught at in Niigata. She only ever wore mini-skirts and then complained about how cold she was all winter long.
But the lovely ladies who wear long boots and minis is one of the few nice things about winter in Japan. :D
