What is the point to racism?

my point is if you were a real person, then you would see that color doesn't matter but personality. Is that a point?

The problem with the racists is that they make up reasons that color *does* matter.

People hang on to certain ideals because it gives them a sense of security, some would even say a sense of immortality , one of these ideals is race, the sense of belonging to a larger whole makes one feel more meaningful, more security than one would feel as an individual. Racism feels needs.

Well, actually, persons with less dense skin pigmentation get sunburned easier, but also get their supply of vitamin D easier. So I guess it really does matter. ;)

Seriously, that is why it is that there are people with pale skin, because as they moved north, there was less sunlight overall, so those with paler skin had a better of chance of surviving because of the advantage to vitamin D acquisition. Almost the same things with hair and eye colour--darker-eyed and -haired people see slightly better in bright light, and ligher-eyed and -haired people see slightly better in less light.

I asked this question a while ago and encouraged racists to answer this themselves.

I found that most of them respond to the question saying it is their religion, like christianity, but they believe in race superiority. I found that they have faith in this belief, so it is like a religion for them to believe in.

It's not right, but it's what they feel.

Racists need to make up myths to assert themselves over other groups - in other words they are stupid, and science hasn't found a cure for stupidity just yet

Who else are they going to blame things on?

oh, you are a very nice person I can tell. You see most people dont like racism and don't commit to it. but it is a natural human instinct to attack a different person, simply because they are alien to you. There is no way to stop terrorism on a global scale. but where ever you go you can stop it if you are strong and brave.

Good luck and god bless

The problem is that these racists who answer those questions aren't answering the question. The question you asked them was "Why do you believe what you believe?," (which was the correct way) and they answered the question "What do you believe." Racists are can't asnwer, or simply refuse to answer the real question, because judgement always prevails over reality, unfortunatly. Denial, ignorance, the worse qualities...

Not just racist but how many of us can answer that question?

"But wherever you go you can stop it if you are strong and brave?" Do you mean racism or global terrorism? And I don't think it's natural to attack someone who is an alien to you, but it's natural (because the uneducated work by instinct) to fear what you don't know, and there are two ways to cope with fear; kill what you fear (the racist way), or try to learn from it (the thinker's way).

Well, in truth, none of us can. But we use this question to make people think before they make radical decisions..

Well I think we should all start trying to figure out why the hell we believe the things we do...or else we are doomed.

Well then how would you explain school rivalries? Its pretty much the same thing, but less harsh.

Well, humans needed to form very strong bonds with the others in their group to survive, that's how we became social animals. At the same time it meant being weary of other groups that were there competing for food and stuff.

As time went on and groups became tribes and then nations, the easiest way to identify a stranger was by physical traits and the most visible in humans is the color of the skin. Also, to keep the feeling of togetherness amongst an ever wider community, new differences were created that were associated to the physical traits: we are stronger, more intelligent, chosen by god, etc.

That's the point to racism. Although it's a natural thing, it's not really healthy or logical, and since now our survival depends on our cooperation as a species, I think it's downright harmful.

Well I personally don't see the logic in this but here is somthing that a racist told was their reason for not liking coloured people (in UK at least)

The thing is all these arab countries are like we were 500 years ago with relegion pretty much ruling the country. That didn't work then and it isn't working now, so these people come over here to escape it but demand on holding the beliefs from that country and that is just creating a loop. So they come over here with the beliefs they were trying to escape from and expect us to respect and embrace these beliefs even though its ruined their country and is starting to ruin ours

can anyone make sense of this?
