A horrible situation

Oh yay...my house has no water. At all. And before you say that that's impossible, it's not; we're not running on a "city" water supply up here in the mountains. Instead, we have a water pump that pumps from wells. A mild amount more to our electricity bill, and no water bill; pretty cheap, actually. Only problem is when the pump breaks, which it has just done. So until it's fixed, we have no water. >_> I need to wash my hands, dammit...oh well. At least I'm not in the situation my sister is: she has shampoo drying in her hair because she can't wash it out.

Happened to me before... we just bought bottled water until it was fixed again.

It's happened to us before too, when we were in a different house up here. Thing is, things have been breaking all over this house: the doornobs, the toilet that won't stop flushing, and now the water pump. I swear, they gave us a substandard house. >_>

Don't know; we've never checked it. It should be fixed later today, though.

Just out of curiosity, where do you live? Up here in Alaska, places without running water or people in your situation are pretty common.

I live in a rural mountain town in Colorado; everyone's on a well here, pretty much. It's generally better this way, because you don't have to pay a water bill; you just have this problem every now in then.

Nope. And it probably won't be till sometime tomorrow. Fricken lazy, no compassion people...we've got six people in this house, and already toilets are smelling like two week used porta-potties.

what is wrong with the pump?

You can flush the tiolet by pouring water in it. Rain water, river water.. you must have something closeby...

I think I'd have to take a walk in the woods to do my business.. no way I'd want to have to smell shit all night.

Yes, I know; my dad just returned with several large bottles of water; the five gallon kind. We're going to flush the toilets with them.
Honestly, I don't know why the pump stopped working; it just did. The guy who came just checked the water storage tank; they're going to replace the pump, I think.

Reminds me a bit of Vietnam. When we were out in "indian country" the only way to get a shower was to stand in a small clearing with soap in one hand and a washcloth in the other, waiting for the afternoon monsoon to begin. Hey, beats stinkin' to high hell! Heh!

Indeed; I understand that feeling, as I spent a week in Mexico living out of a tent. Not the same, of course, but similar in that sense.
This isn't the first time a water pump has broken for us; two years ago, when we lived in a different house up here, that one broke too. The toilets went so far as to turn...purple.

We lost our well two years ago on Thanksgiving morn. The plumber couldn't get the old pump out and we had to drill a whole new well. We were without water for two almost three weeks because it was so cold up here in No. Mn. I had to haul water from my sister-in-laws house. They is five of us in the house and my wife does day care. Let me tell you water is heavy.

I used to live in a neighborhood where we didn't receive city water, and during the big blackout of the Northeast we had none at all.
