The ideal nation

Many people seem to have and idea of what America (or France, Canada or wherever) should become like but never tell anyone. So here is the place to post your idea of a perfect your nation.

My perfect America would be one without a government or currency, where you work on what you can barter to live. There would therefore be no gun drug or abortion laws, expect common wisdom and sociably acceptable actions (By which I mean, you wouldn't trade a gun to a stranger and common wisdom tells you which drugs to avoid).

The Free People of Our Earth very nearly fits my ideal model for a country.

To be a little more specific, I have no crime, a thriving economy, high civil and political freedoms, no corruption, happy and intelligent citizens (something which rarely happens in real life), and a level of socialization far beyond anything achieved in history without the accompanying problems, and with the continued existence of a strong market economy.

HOLY CRAP!!! That's well done.

Of course, if your nation has belligerent neighbours it'd be in some trouble ;)

My idea nation is a Constitutional Representative Republic. A nation where everyone's rights are respected, and the government does it's utmost to stop people from infringing.

A nation in which the businesses are checked by regulation to keep abuses away, but private interests still own and direct everything else about the company. Where private ownership of capital is respected, just so long as it isn't used to abuse others rights to life, liberty and property.

A nation in which the interferences of the government in personal and business matters are minimal.

Where the main services of the government are protection of your goods and person from aggression by others. Where a limited social safety net is in place to temporarily help hard working individuals get back on their feet after they have fallen.

A nation where private enterprise flourishes, as do individual rights. A nation without racism, sexism or any of those fell isms.

A serene republic.

My ideal nation would have to be one governed with the Constitution of the United States of America. Though, it might be good to change to a constitutional monarchy (keeping the US constitution as much intact as possible), so politicians don't do things just for votes.

Kind of like what Marx wanted.

and your real world

The Free Peoples of Our Earth is a massive, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its complete lack of prisons. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 3.854 billion enjoy extensive civil rights and enjoy a level of social equality free from the usual accompanying government corruption.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Education, although Commerce and Social Welfare are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Book Publishing industry, followed by Uranium Mining and Information Technology.

The only places to see Walking Carpets now are at local zoos, the people are famous throughout the region for their bleached-white teeth, a niche industry catering to S&M enthusiasts has sprung up, and Our Earth's children are widely acknowledged as the most foul-mouthed in the region. Crime is totally unknown. Our Earth's national animal is the Walking Carpet, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the almighty dollar.

Mine would be just like the Confederate States of America, but without the slavery.

I live in Finland and there's actually only one huge thing that makes my life a living hell and that's compulsory Swedish. Why the hell should I study a language that a man can't speak without sounding like a woman? It doesn't matter even though Finland and Sweden were the same country over 200 years ago. If that was the reason, Russian would be also compulsory. No, the reason is that our government is too weak to shut it's ears from the complains of some tiny group that doesn't really wan't to be a part of the nation.

If I was to decide, I would do just like in my own Quentulus Qazgar: Crush all opposition to show what is the real culture and language in my country. Everyone who doesn't like this can go to hell (get fast out of my ideal nation) or else they will experience a horrible accident.

Ever hear of NationStates, Gongites? That's where you can create an ideal nation. ;)

Anyways, my nation (Superpower07) has outstanding civil rights, economic strength, and political freedoms - the only problems are the the UN has made it quite socialist (with all the social justice reforms; and I'm libertarian) and increasing crime.

My ideal nation is one of a libertarian capitalist government (something I am trying to emulate, by NOT joining the UN, in my new "puppet" nation, Super-power)

My perfect nation would...
-Have legal abortion. There is no reason not to, although past 3rd term, they'd be illegal(unless somethign suddenly came up that threatened the mother's life), since the woman's had PLENTY of time to get one by then, among other reasons.
-Have only enough military to prevent use from having no defense against anyone who attacks us. No more. War would only be fought if there was NO OTHER way to solve the problem that war would be fought over. Most of the military budget would go towards defence systems rather than finding new ways to attack.
-Have no death penalty. The possibility of innocent people being put to death is too much, no matter how small.
-Have strict gun laws. Gun liscenses would be VERY hard to get, and would have to be renewed about every 4 months. All guns would be registered, with any disposal of guns requiring taking the gun to an authorized office to have themselves cleared of the registration for that gun, and any theft of guns would have to be reported IMMEDIATELY, and if a gun owner is found to no longer have their gun(assuming that they haven't reported the gun stolen) when they go to a liscense renewal, they will be charged as a felon, and the gun hunted down. Police would still have guns, but would only be allowed to use them if their life or the lives of others were in danger and using the gun was the only way to get them out of danger.
-Would have proper sex education. Abstinence would still be taught, but other methods of birth control would as well, and lessons on STDs as well.
-CEOs would only be allowed to earn 3 times the average salary of non-mangement workers.
-Education would be the highest funding priority, followed closely by healthcare and welfare.
-Food labels will have to list any form of sugar as "sugar". Not "dextrose", not "natural flavor", not "high fructose corn syrup", sugar.
-People would only eat whole-wheat grain products.(there's no reason to eat the overly processed stuff, anyway...)
-Mass-transit would be widely used.
-Knowledge of a second language would be a requirement to graduate from high school.
-High school would be mandantory. College would be either free, or if it was a REALLY good one, far cheaper than it is now.(remember, a lot more money is going towards education)
-People would be allowed to punch people who are being excessively stupid :)
-Apartments would be abolished, as would condos.
-Landowners must have at least one tree in their yard.
-Euthunasia would be legal
-Clothes for pets would be illegal(that's pet abuse, IMO. I feel VERY sorry for pets who have to put up with that. Have you ever seen those poor things? :( Collars don't count as clothes, BTW.)
-All anime would be uncut with accurate scripts(power to the otaku :D)
-People would pay attention to the rating of video games they buy. M-rated games will require an ID showing that you are above 18 in order to purchase or rent them.
-Firefox wouldn't exist.
-Telemarketing wouldn't exist. Neither would spam(ad spam, not food spam).
-McDonalds wouldn't exist.
-Gay marriage would be legal
-Businesses would have strict environmental regulations. They make millions are year, they can afford to spend some of it keeping the planet clean.
-Apperance would be valued little. What people would really pay attention to is your personality.

That's rich for a Finn, since Finnish itself is a trainwreck of consonants gone awry with no sort of aesthetic appeal. :p

It's good for you to learn Swedish. That way you can talk to the rest of Scandinavia.

Why not? I agreed with you up to that point Even without spam, Firefox still works a lot better than IE; tab browsing pwns.

My ideal society is a libertarian capitalist one. The government exists solely for the purpose of protecting its citizens from damage to property or person. People are entirely free to dispose of their wealth and possessions as they see fit, provided they do not steal from another citizen or harm any other citizen without consent.

The protection given by the government is enacted by a police force, and a military force is in place to defend the nation. Aside from these services, the government would provide roads, considered public land, to facilitate travel. Without road provision, it would be impossible to travel any great distance without trespassing.

People found to have commited a crime of serious enough magnitude, would instead of being imprisoned be exiled and their property seized. Seized property would provide the government with wealth for use in the provision of the listed services, thus taxation would be minimal, if even existant.

Immigration and emmigration would be easy affairs, but upon crossing the border as an immigrant, a simple check would be performed to ensure that said person was not an exiled criminal. Other than that one would be free to enter or leave the country as they saw fit.

On your own property, you would be free to do exactly as you liked, be it to play with a gun, smoke pot, change your gender or whatever. Provided that your activity did not damage or destroy the life or property of any other person without their consent, your life would be yours to dictate.

Basically, provided you're not out to hurt someone else or steal from them, the government wouldn't give a damn what you did.
